.22lr accuracy - paper punching testing
riflehunter583 replied to riflehunter583's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
No it doesn't, Velocitors are 40g HP, they run at 1435 ft sec with 183ft lb at the muzzle and go transonic at just short of 100 yards, therefore stability is debatable. They are a high speed, heavy HP hunting rounds, designed for small game, they are not a Target round. Whilst every barrel has it's ammo preferences, even the best target barrel is not going to make Velocitors accurate at 120 or 180 yards as mentioned, especially in strong winds, and a field rifle is likely to be worse! "cci volocitiors are a bit wild"...well you got that right, if you can show me any rifle that will d -

Yeh, I can see where you are coming from, but here's my rational, I spent 10 years as a .22lr Rifle Team member, over 9 years as coach of that team, I have also shot at Bisley for many many years, there is no doubt that these groups are possible, under the right conditions, with the right rifle and ammo and with the right shooter, but ....................... Last time I looked the Browning 52 wasn't a target rifle and Velocitors are a joke accuracy wise, then we add in strong winds as mentioned in part of the post above, but still 0.5" groups at 50 yards with them and a 10 shot 2" group at -
.22lr accuracy - paper punching testing

strangly the 180 yard grouping was with a cheap 4-12*50 pan ev hawke scope. then i tried a hawke sidewinder 6-24*56 which was set at 20 x for the 120 yard testing. should have been the other way round but the scope did not come until last week. 180 was done 3 weeks ago. i find the smaller cheaper scope fits in the gun cabinet better and when carrying is less clumbersome. the sidewinder is heavier and the turrets stick out alot. i would say its more a target scope so put it back on my airgun. the smaller scope is better for night shooting with dsa and is enough set at 10x just. the r -

thanks mate 180 yard rabbit is a great shot especially when the adrenaline is going. i find it harder to shoot accuratly a living quarry than target shooting. -

.22lr accuracy - paper punching testing
riflehunter583 replied to riflehunter583's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
i will take it that the results are good then considering most think i'm telling porkies! i was actually not sure as some hmr shooters and centre fire shooters are getting sub inch groups at these distances and further. one i've seen 1 inch groups at 300 yards with a 223 so wondered if i should be getting near that with a rimfire. i'm not saying all my groups are this good as i explained. just the best groups with this ammo. some goups are like shot gun shot. i am finding that if i'm having an off day, or the wind is unpredicable, or suddenly i get half way through a box of 50 fli -

My add in Yell.com, is under Fox Control, I also advertise in various other media, including wasps, (they are a bit quiet at the moment ), I do my best to avoid the fleas, bedbugs etc. I also do contract Fox/Deer etc. work for some National and local Pest Control companies who are not really set up for this sort of thing but want to be able to advertise a wide service. I personally concentrate on squirrel, rabbit, fox and deer, but inevitably other work comes in, and I pass out contract work as well, for example, my main Mole Man is top dollar and kept Stonehenge upright for many years.

I'll take that as the jovial comment you intended. Traps can be time consuming, and therefore expensive, clients commonly want quick results, to try and trap a family of 5 foxes in one garden would be all but impossible, some may be immature but they learn fast, I took the whole family of 5 foxes out in one evening shooting in the garden, actually in about 90 minutes! You don't get ricochets from a .22lr when you hit a fox in the right place, and as I already said, these jobs were surveyed and baited to appropriate shooting positions, so ricochets were about as likely as my £25,000,000

i brought a second hand nearly new browning 52 18.5 inch barrel .22rf some months ago from a dealer for £399. I brought it becuase i like target shooting and shooting rabbit and long rang crows over big fields. done quite a bit of shooting target shooting with it trying to find the best subs and best hv rounds for it and ended up with eley subs and cci velocitors. so £100 quid later in ammo inbetween home life and work i have tested many brands of .22lr ammo for the past month or so. my questions is: never shot much .22lr before how happy should i be with the results should i be a

i agree, at the end of the day in the right hands all weapons will do the job cleanly. if there is to much wind then don't take the shot why do all these 223 guys get so up tight and stuffy about this subject. game keepers shoot foxes at 25 yards all the time with a shot gun. if there is no wind and the range is around 100 yards the hmr is fine for the job. its down to the shooters ability and conditions and land. good shot mate hope you enjoy your fox shooting with your hmr.
