  1. certainly the second link and author seems quite credible. I think you may have referenced some less reliable and not so relevant information in the first link which is focused on Spanish/American trading and proofing mishaps also showing that once something is imported it is the importers responsibility to sort the mess out. however the first link is not very relevant. it seems you are getting confused with the word stubborn and persistent as I have in fact looked at your comments and taken them on board. the second link is more relevant. here are a few paragraphs out of it: 'I
  2. I spoke to another smith this morning as I am looking at getting my centre fire shortened. he said the same as the two rifle shops and the smith before: if you keep it you don't need to proof. if you sell it then you need to proof the new work. I will not be re proofing the 'cut' unless I plan to sell the rifle in the future. then I will be.
  3. the strength of a professional job is not the problem. in other words the danager is 0. if anything the proofing is an outdated method which can stress material. BUT we are not talking about physics here. this is what i said: if your keeping it no proof is needed, if selling it is. its all about covering your back if sold and there is a problem. and a problem would be very rare. but to cover your back in a world of litigation i would always recommend belt and braces to cover your back if sold. WHY DO YOU THINK A GUN SHOP OF 20 YEARS HAD MY .22LR BARREL CUT AND PROOFED JUST
  4. reproofing: if you want to sell it, it does. if you want to keep it, it does not need it. comment for the original thread maker, I would highly recommend 18.5 inchs. when the ammo is consistent (which is very rare) my 18.5 inch barrel will shoot a few out at 0.25 inch c2c at 120 yards. but its more like an inch usually. I firmly believe this is due to the rounds not the barrel on my 18.5 inch browning 52. forget the 14 inch dude its a little to short. NO it doesn't, there is NO law and NO precedent, there is conjecture and debate and hot air from the Proof House as to whether an

  12. as I read this I am in Sheffield! I to stripped my hill pump mk2 3 weeks ago due to the same fault! and as you did admired of the build quality and replaced only the main green o ring with some silicone grease and hay presto back in full working order after it lock solid the week before. I have no checked the bottle of my gun for rust tho. like you not only does the pump provide cheep, independent filling but filling up to 250 bar each time has sure made me fitter and stronger with fac air! pumps are great.
  13. The trouble with today' society is that when you look back through history it was always live and let live. Now many of the left of society believe their way is the right way and they have the right to dictate how other people should live. If they don't like guns, they're shouldn't be guns. If they don't like private landowners, then they should have the right to trample over their land even though most of the land concerned has never been open to the public. If they don't like big houses, then builders should have a new standard of building smaller houses so they fit more in and build

  15. Have you ever tried to catch a rabbit!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!. Sick or wounded animals are far easier to catch, foxes like anyother wild animal have to wiegh up the pros and cons effort v reward. I know thats a very simple way to put it but its the quickest way i can think of. I am not saying they dont take healthy rabbits cos i know they do i have seen it, but a healthy rabbit it not a large part of a foxes diet, they mainly eat worms, frogs, grubs and stuff like that and of coarse chickens but healthy rabbits are a bit of a challenge. Can you imagine the look on the cubs faces when mum or dad
  16. I suppose a pest controller might have a different objective to a hunter ultimately. when were talking about getting a job done, and someone's lively hood at steak and money then it changes things somewhat. I myself do not get payment when I shoot so I could consider myself as a hunter. the enjoyment of the countryside, food for the pot, challenge of the hunt. interest in managing land I suppose. i care about the wider picture of wild life and the reason behind the hunting as much as doing the hunting. i see a hunter as a selective predator pitting his or her wits against the q
  17. I would not like to see the last fox. he has an important role to play in the countryside. good hunting is conservation. take yellow stone park in the usa. wolves were largely hunted in that area, numbers were too low, which meant to many deer. to many deer meant little wood land particularly near water, which meant no wood for beavers. so beaver numbers dropped off a cliff AND with less dams made by the beavers for other flora and fauna to benefit from. conservationists had to step in and built the wolves numbers. I think as responsible hunters we need to be conservationis
  18. yes just a bit of harmless talk. bit like pub talk but without the drink. unless its a tescos 6 pack at home of course.
