  1. I got an opticron which is good for 600 yards. Cost a bit more mind
  2. Hi, I've got a year old MinPin and he's developed a liking for coming out with me when i'm off to do a spot of rabbit control. Slowly introducing him to the concept of fetching but its a work in progress. Yesterday i was looking out of the rear patio doors and saw a load of Pheasants. 3 pops later and 2 birds down. Took the dog to retrieve them and he's getting the idea. Trouble is he likes to play with them a bit along the way. Anything i should be doing with him to just get him to carry back for me? Now everytime i get the gun out he's at the door waiting for me. Mrs a
  3. Hi Rob, I'm a novice so doubt i'll add much value. I've been told by a few people that going .17 hmr is good for longer range, especially when buggs gets used to you coming! No idea on centre fire yet as i'm also looking at my first for foxes and also for deer. I have found out that some FLO's are clued up and some less so. My advice is make sure you know what type of centre or rimmy can do what, the grain of bullet you might want to use and then have all that to hand when you chat to your FLO. I know what i'd like but know i'm unlikely to get it so am having to be understnding o
  4. Beast - i hadn't read any of the manuals prior to arrival due to other studies for work etc so was at a loss to the rest of the guys there. In fact i'd say i was the weakest link there as they had all at least been on a stalk as a minimum. I found the hardest bit identifying the species/sex. The rest made sense once i frantically read the books each night before the tests on the last day. There have been people that have failed some elements and at least 2 that were thrown off the course early on (were real idiots with a bad attitude apparently) Overall it was worth it for me and i love
  5. Sorry, just had to share my news. Came back from abroad to the letter etc. So thought I'd failed too.
  6. Can i query the Fox is classed as vermin bit please? I was told that that was not the case
  7. Hi folks, I've not had my FAC long and my .22lr condition only states vermin! Got about 12 acres of land but only about 5 of that is wooded area. Surroundings are pretty clear except for a horse field shelter that i keep away from out of courtesy to the girl that has her horses there. I get quite a lot of foxes and a friend sometimes comes over and i lamp up for him. Trouble is his time is getting more scarce due to work commitments and we're losing chicken during the day and some damage at night trying to get in. I'm just waiting the result of my DSC1 and am intending on going on
  8. Depends what your FLO says and what's on your ticket. Personally I don't think a .22lr is acceptable. My FLO was pretty hard on the point too. Still, counties are different so good luck either way.
  9. nice one, i went out last night and unfortunately where i am everything was downwind so i got 3 before they all sodded off underground
  10. 22lr for fox. my FLO wasn't too happy about that. i've the chance to pop one from 50-60 yards but decided against it (mostly as i'm a novice, wasn't certain i'd get a clean huname despatch and the repurcussions if from FLO if i dropped it)
  11. Cheers Charlie, Did know that but i didn't phrase it very well. Meant to say "lamping for foxes and possibly stalking for deer" I've got the DSC pack through and it is long reading, particularly when i'm studying for 3 other exams right now too.
  12. Hello, I have a 22 Rim and have been happily ridding our field of rabbits. My FAC is still restricted to our land but i've been out lamping for a friend before on several occasions. In that time we or rather he has got a half a dozen foxes. I'd like to get more lamping experience for foxes and possibly deer if anyone is willing to guide me. Live near Tenterden, Kent if anyone is around this way or within a suitable distance. Got my own lamp, cammo and rangefinder so hopefully not too much of a burden. Thanks, Richard
  13. hopefully mine will be here in time for the weekend.................
  14. thanks Jamie MC - i'll have a look Jamie93, that would be great. I'm away next week on my DSC1 but anytime after then i'm about eves. Love this site, you folks are all so helpful!
  15. Hi, luckily at the moment i have somone that does it for us but i've never seen it done. i'm told that there's no smell if you do it right but not sure if this is a tale or not Is there a course or somewhere you can go to see it done - ideally with your own kill? Cheers Richard
  16. just a thought, when i push the pins out a bit they will lose the rolled edge that keeps them in place. i doubt they will just fall out but how to ensure there is no movement in them again? drop of supergue?
  17. cheers, another one on the way! best not lose this one then.
  18. guess i'm best taking my scope off for that test then?
  19. Hi, I've had my rim for a few months now and love it. i bought a trigger kit for it but somehow we think it got thrown out with the tiny padded envelope it came in. Now i'm just wondering whether its worth ordering another or has anyone adjusted the original, what are peoples thoughts that have changed kit? I find it a little snatchy sometimes (probably doing the novice thing and pulling too fast, not squeezing continuously or looking up from the scope a fraction early. Thoughts very welcome. Thanks
