  2. Its not just you coursers that suffer, my permission for ferreting is land owned by on of the countries top greyhound/coursing dog breeder in Ireland. The ban over there in the u.k has seriously affected his livelyhood and has lost a lot of income. Genuinely nice fella and his place is in top condition too and all the dogs well looked after. I dont do it myself but i love all things about hunting and the hunting life and the "history" of it.........unfortuntely in this dy and age a lot of it is going to be history with all the political crap and the antis
  3. Just read all 8 pages on this thread....................erm what was the original thread about I started ferreting 23 years ago, never used to have a locator, never lost a ferret. I got myself a locator, never lost a ferret. Got locator, lost locator cause some slimey fecker broke into my shed and stole all me nets and my locator. But i'll still be working my ferrets without one till i can get one of the 5 that i have in bits working and can afford another collar. And its pretty hard to ferret with all but 10 nets stolen. Moral of the dilema is i need to locate my locator to locat
  4. Some like it some dont ......just dont get his head under the water. When i bathe mine ...not very often......i use the kitchen sink and just run warm water from the tap onto them. And just hold him in the position so he cant bite ya .....just in case!!!! Only had one ferret nip me but that was cause the water wasnt quite warm enough. Good luck hope it helps
  5. You should be able to bathe him in a shampoo for ticks and fleas that is safe for a kitten and whilst bathing him, you should be able to remove all the ticks or fleas.Remeber to change his bedding too as this can hold them
  6. :boogy: :boogy: Jesus thought i'd joined an anti's thread for a minute with all the slagging.......nice numbers there Foxdropper. And my personal opinion on the matter.....................................................................doesnt matter..........leave the man be, some like his ways of hunting some dont ....its individuality .....thats life. I will be doing a write up and showing pics of my next outing ferreting, and will proudly show off my catch..................if i get any :cray:
  7. Nice gun ......gutted i had to sell mine when i moved over here to Ireland. Used to hunt with an avid PCP'er and he couldnt shoot a springer for love nor money. Personal opinion is to start hunting with a springer then move onto pcp. If you were to whack a gas strut in that it would be even better less recoil and even quieter. But excellent gun.
  8. Excellent day out. Great pics too.
  9. not training as such but when the pups first learning if you see a bunny enter a warren then the dog shows interest of some kind then give it lots of praise Cheers kittleRox wouldnt be wanting a big dog would i get away with a jack russel for this........better to talk the misssusaround with a small dog than a lurcher
  10. Generally under 100 its not an instant ban. I think you may get a fixed penalty fine and points on license. As it stnds i beleive that the legal percentage for discretion is 7.5 % on speeding. Meaning that in a 100mph limit you could be going 107.5mph and not get fined as not all speedos are 100%. I think youll get the fixed notice....hopefully. Best advice though ...........SLOW DOWN !!! Good luck.
  11. I for one have never used dogs for ferreting. But i go ferreting with a Traveller on occassions and he uses dogs....not on my permission but when he goes by himself. Is there a way to train a dog for marking or are most of your guys/gals dogs doing it naturally? Interesting topic and may consider it for myself.
  12. Well i found back in the u.k that a great way to get the foot in the door for hunting with an air rifle was to actually go door knocking looking to ferret the land. Then when youve got the perisiion to ferret and been seen a few times and got a rapport with the land owner then you could broach the subject of shooting the land. Now im not sying that you go out buying ferrets and all sorts but hook up with a ferreter and do a bit of hunting and then see how the land lies. Its worked for me many times, and i knocked and wrote letters and got knocked back so many times when it came to shooting
