  1. Great going lads......just out of curiosity what the heck ya do with all them,......you must have one big freezer
  2. Give me a couple of months i'll be banging them out :D
  3. Nice write up.....always good when you go out with good company and a few in the bag ....cant beat it.
  4. Theres one thing certain in life bud....if you dont ask you dont know. Even older fellas like myself and im sure all the guys on here that go looking for permission get the knock back. Ive certainly had many doors closed on me. But when you get your first permission you'll be glad you made the effort. Just be respectful outgoing and be prepared to answer a few questions they might throw your way......stuff your using, how often you coming, all sorts ....treat it like an interview and you cant go far wrong......and first impressions count.....good luck.
  5. Looking for a ferret in Cork City area. Reason is the one i rescued from gardens the rightful owner turned up tonight and claimed her back. Nice fella and thought he would never have seen her again. Dont mind whether a Hob or a Jill .....preferably one thats been handled as i got kids ....if not hunted then its not a problem neither. I like to keep my ferrets in two's for company. PM me if you can help out ...cheers.
  6. More than welcome lads ...hope it helps ...i know all too well what its like to get the knock backs .....keep on knocking and it'll all come together.
  7. not sure of age but lad said its not too old, if that makes any sense to you Just follow the instructions on the packet you'll be grand Agh if its a young un then it may just need some tlc and a pont in the right direction .......keep handling and all the other suggestions and im sure you'll have yourself a decent ferret...........or no hands left

  11. jill jab from vets Looks like you know your opinion then and what to do :whistling:
  12. On a serious note .........my hob and jill ae about the same size. But in past experience a slightly smaller ferret does seem to get them to bolt easier than big.....but then it all boils down to the ferrets at the end of the day .
  13. The way i find is just knock the door ....say youve seen a fair few rabbits on his land, is there any chance of bringing my ferrets to sort a few of them out. I find it easier getting permission with ferts than with air rifle. May get knocked back a few times but thats life....be polite leave the ferts at home, be casual in dress and get knocking. If he says yes.....always check that your allowed to dig in case of a laid up ferret....nothing worse than digging your fert out and farmer or landowner turning up as your on a 4ft dig for your ferret. Also ask him if theres any ares that he wants
  14. Ive never had a problem with hobs together.....i rescued 5 ferts last year and 3 were hobs and put them in with my hob and never had a problem. My first two ferts were hobs many years ago, from different homes and never had a problem neither.
  15. Jills come into season each spring and STAYin season until mated. If allowed to remain in season they develop a form of anaemia through the suppression of bone marrow resulting in the decline of red blood cells and can become very ill and ultimately die. Most vets advise that jills are spayed when they are not in season however this will be a preference of the practising vet. It is easy to tell if a jill is in season as the entrance to the vagina swells very noticeably until it is the size of a small hazelnut. This swelling will reduce and the vagina will return to normal size when the ji
  16. Cost depends on the vet best thing to do is ring around......and no it wont affect them working.
  17. My missus says big is best  I keep telling her small is best :icon_redface: :tongue2:
  18. Ok if you get the hobs vasectomised then they can still hump your gills when they come into season and not get them up the duff. But as you only have 2 gills it may be cheaper to get them done and then you wouldnt have to worry about having kits. But if you got your hobs castrateedc then you wouldnt be able to bring your gills out of heat and would need a hob to service them or get them jabbed .
  19. Short and sweet......some of the best sessions are the quickies
  20. Good luck 1wally.....i only took up Sea angling since i moved to Ireland and thoroughly enjoy it.....got some great fishing spots around Cork harbour here. Some nice cod in the winter and a fair few nice Bass spots in the summer months. And plenty in between.
  21. You trying to put me off :cray: . Yeah think i'll be double knotting and using spun poly or spun nylon ....then maybe give the hemp a go after im making 1 a week  :boogy:
  22. Jesus you go into the local gun /angling shop here and you pay €2.90 per net and there Bisley's....thats about £2.40. Cheap nasty nets at extortionate prices.
  23. Wish it was here mate .....reckon it'll take about 5-7 days from u.k to here but was posted today....now just the waiting game. Im quite a patient guy so i'll take me time when i start them and hopefully get a few knocked up before end of season :icon_eek: . I do lockpicking and you need a lot of patience with that, so should be ok.
  24. Agh sorry to hear that mate...always tough when ya lose one....especially through ilness
