thanks for all the help, and the pm (si) will read through then get out and practice. my gun is at the shop atm so i am playing with my friends webley. this may be a daft question but both are .22 air rifles, using the same pellets will holdover/under vary between the two rifles?
-
is there an easy way to determine holdover? I have researched it a bit but can't find a straightforward answer.. for example, if my rifle was zeroed to 30yards which mil dot would I use to shoot something at 40yards? is it just a case of target practice and trial n error to find holdover?

took the lightning to the gunsmith.. he said its off to the side as well as bent up.. nothin he can do till next weekend.

quite a few videos on youtube people have just used their mouth, making a squeak like you to do to a dog. look at huntervermin on youtube, he has a lot of rabbiting vids and often does that squeak, seems to work most (if not every) times

thanks for the advice bill, i have just been researching on the internet and found similar advice. i am not confident i am strong enough to do it myself, but i rang my local gunsmith and he says he can straighten it and it wont cost anywhere near as much as a new barrel. rob- i have checked the stock and it seems fine, only the scratches and blemishes that were there when i bought it (thats not a complaint, i knew it was a well used rifle with marks on it)
-
barry- i did try packing the front, just to try everything i could think of, but i thought it was the back mount that would need packing? but no matter how much i pack it, it doesnt lower the aim by much more than a couple inches. and like i say, if that bend is only from firing with the breech open then it must have been like that before i got it.
-
T10- at what distances where you hitting things? rob- i paid 150 for it.... it has hardly been used, as when i got it home, i had no pellets or targets.... i have used it maybe 5 times, every time i have had to aim at the very top line above the mill dots to get it anywhere near the centre of the target and thats at 20yards... it has NEVER been dropped, knocked or cocked and fired with the barrel broken.
-
cheers for that rob, my problem is this was a clearly a problem before i got the gun and i assume this because of the turrets being adjusted all the way before i touched it... but being inexperienced and never having owned a gun before i didnt know what to look for just trying to find out if it is bent or not and if it can be fixed.. but thanks, atb

i have uploaded the same image again, with a red line from the start of the break barrel, to the edge of the photo, the line is dead straight, the barrel bends part way along where stated...... is the pivot near where the pellet goes? is that what part you mean? if so then the barrel is straight from the 'pivot' up to the red vertical line where it starts to bend. ty

i dont understand, sorry. is there something i can check/ do to fix it if it is whatever you said?
-
finally got photos uploaded
-
oh, i get ya, but whatever scope i put on (new and old, plus new and old mounts) it still shoots way too high. photo is on the way if i can upload it
-
have looked down the barrel now, thanks for that. umm, yeah, its bent upwards. in the barrel before the silencer. should i try get a photo? doubt i could get one looking down the barrel but i iwll try, can get one from the side. why turn the turret all the other way? i will try it tomorrow when we can see whats happening.

you are correct, i can hit bottle tops and have been doing that this week... with my friends webley air rifle, as i havent used mine since ordering a new scope which arrived today. when i tried to zero the rifle after getting it i found the finger adjustable elevation wouldnt move, so i assumed it was too stiff. i took it to a gun club who zero rifles and they tried to zero it but the elevation was already adjusted all the way down, and the mounts were packed and they told me the scope is bent. hence, the new scope and today i tried new mounts, all to no avail. but now i notice just by loo

thanks, already tried talkin to him. he reckons theres nothin he can do. if its the silencer, can i remove it and fire the gun? i think i read somewhere its not a good idea to do that on some models..
