Ratters Needed Short Notice This Thursday .30Th
Pig boy replied to Squirrel_Basher's topic in Earthdogs & Working Terriers
Thanks for mentioning me socks and stig, will definitely be there when it's on again! -
Hi mate yeah I do have him up for stud, i was hoping to keep a pup of a litter he sired if i can't find a pup. No worries, they seem so difficult to come by when you're actually looking for one!

Hi all, i was put down for a Russel x Beddy bitch pup but the seller seemed a bit weird and about iffy so i've decided to avoid it. And was wondering are there any litters of bushing pups due or ready in about four weeks in the Wiltshire/Hampshire/Dorset area? Many thanks

I'm looking into getting a Bedlington Terrier and was hoping to train it to retrieve shot game along with the usual bushing and ratting. But I was wondering how would you recommend teaching it to retrieve? I was thinking train it like a spaniel or lab but does that training method only work for the known gun dog type due to their certain nature and the abilities? So how would you go about training a Beddy to do so? Many thanks

It could just be his way of marking a burrow mate, mine does this

Thanks Bearinator, little George has been a bit shaky but never leaves the old boys side, is there anything i could do to make it less stressful for him? Wipbed Thanks mate you're right it is hard but knowing the dogs had a good life makes it all slightly easier, the terrier is finished training now so that's alright! I do like the beddy to be honest, any good breeders to get a pup off? As for training the new pup for it's varied jobs in the field but it be best if it's retrieving was solidified before taking it ratting? And would getting it to retrieve shot rabbit not work well wi

Thanks for all the replies guys, with the retrieving of game it wouldn't really matter if the Beddy was hard mouthed as the bird or whatever retrieved would just be food for my ferrets and a bit of fun on my part. Another question haha! Basically my Lab is going to be put down soon due to a prostate problem and my terrier pup who has always had a close relationship with him seems to become quite depressed, so would getting another dog be a good thing for him? This isn't the only reason for me wanting this Beddy but i thought it may help get back to normal?

I'm just about to finish my GCSE's which is going to allow me to have much more spare time, enough time to train another terrier. I'm hoping to train it to be pretty useful in a few jobs such as the obvious ratting and bushing but also retrieving shot game for me, but not digging. Do you think the Bedlington would be a good choice? Or would ratting and bushing not mix well with retrieving? Pig boy

Anyone From Wiltshire Up For Starting A Rat Pack?
Pig boy replied to Pig boy's topic in Earthdogs & Working Terriers
Nice one, what terriers have you got? And are they good with other dogs whilst ratting? -
Hello all, is there anyone from Wiltshire up for starting a local rat pack? I have my little mutt and a mate with his terrier and two lurchers and was thinking it would be a good idea to start a pack up as there are none around it would be great just to go out get rid of some pests on the local farms and shoots as well has having good banter with like minded people! Any local lads about? cheers, Pig boy

She is a hairdresser but that isn't enough to keep the family of four going, i'm 15 i don't have a real job yet

Cheers guys Well socks the place where he was doing a job had a head gardener and malcolm stood some flowers so the Gardner called him a thick b*****d and then Malcolm told him to f**k off, At this point Gaigers were trying to get rid of employees because of the resession so they used this incident to get rid of him.

A family friend of mine has recently been sacked from his job as a laborer for gaigers, and because he has no job him and his wife have fallen out, this could lead to divorce so i want to help them out. My friend Malcolm enjoys his air rifles and all the aspects of hunting, so i was wondering if there is anyone out there who could use an extra pair of hands whilst ferreting or if you own a pest control business that could give him a job to earn some money. He is a good laborer so if you just need or know off someone in need of that sort of trade he's your man. The downside to Malcolm is he is

Well the main reason is that i'd like a dog that would mark the holes so i didn't waste time with empty sets, so i'd ideally like a lurcher but mum says no so the best i can do is take my terrier out and i have to admit he does mark okay, so im basically gonna weigh up the pro's and con's and see if its worth taking him out.
-
Do any of you use your terriers for ferreting, because i have got some ferrets which are nearly ready for work and my terrier is just over a year old but i have been slowly breaking him to them and so far its going fine. But i just wondered how reliable ar they as in do you trust yours 100% with the ferrets and are they a good idea to bring along on a days ferreting. With breaking him to the ferrets he doesn't biet but he just wrap his round them is this just him wanting to play? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Hi, i would like to see some pics of lurcher to lurcher bred dogs please

That is a nice wee terrier mate , hows that training tip working for you? Thanks Bear it is working well thanks mate, he pulls a bit when i come out the door and for the early bit of the walk but soon settles down, but when i walk both dogs he has this urge to be in front of my lab, but will walk to heel perfect off the lead when the lab is going crazy running about, which always confuses me!

Here's my JRT x Norfolk terrier ace little ratter, but can be a demanding pain in the arse!
-
Hi guys, i have a Norfolk terrier x JRT he is my first terrier and is a great busher and ratter, i remember the 2nd time we went ratting he caught 23 just by himself, to be honest it was the best day of my life! the only downside is that he is so small he can fit through stock fence so he covers a lot of distance. i will get some pics up tomorrow
