  1. Always pleanty of wind down in Fife!
  2. That was to be the plan. I know there was a post on here about a dodgy supplier, so plan was to confirm who they were, and avoid em! Any recommendations greatfully received tho. Cheers.
  3. Just thinking I've had a few queries Myself, and seen some others too, and I can never remember where I've seen the replies / photos etc. Wondered if this kind of section was created, if it would keep everything 'together'? It could cover all aspects of Housing, ie ferrets, chickens, dogs, folk just wanting to show off their handy work, queries about insulation, finishes, roofing etc etc. Just a thought. Cheers
  4. Just a wee update folks, Now had 100% production for the last 2 or 3 days. 10 eggs from the 10 hens! Thanks for the suggestions again folks, looks like it worked!
  5. Hello Folks, Sorry if this has been adressed before, but here goes, I am just about to lay a cement slab and potentially build a block work kennel or a divided up 8' x 6' shed in preperation for getting myself my 1st Springer. We are lucky in the fact we have quite a bit of space to work with, and My query is where am I best to site the run etc? I had an old guy at the house recently who advised I should have it somewhere out the front, where the dog could see what was going on through the day. Would this be a 'must'? Someone else has advised me it should be 'South' facing....aga

    Kennel Floor

No expert, but I'd say if you keep it washed out, it shouldn't be a problem. Used to use jeyes fluid all the time for hen houses years ago. How about painting the floor? Also heard of people applying PVA Glue with cement / paint. Personally, I'd justy keep it well hosed out. Just about to be building a kennel / run myself, so I'll be keeping an eye out for the other replies you get.
  7. just goes to show how bad its got these days. if they never put that warning on the bag of nuts some fecker with a nut allergy could eat them and sue the feck out of the nut company for not putting the warning on the bag. its sad really, but true. very scary if you had that allergy I no a guy that has this and has been rushed to hospital blue lights an all face swollen up the lot you'd have to be on your toes all the time especially at events Xmas new year ect you don't now where other people's hands have been eating nuts then dipping there hands in to crisps ect not good Aye nae good! J
  8. Okey Dokey, Cheers Brock Dog.. Walshie, Think you'd be right in saying that. I'm 1/2 waythrough cobbling 1 together from some bits and pieces I had lying about. Mesh may be a slightly lesser gauge than if I had been buying it, but I had it lying about, so that's what I'm using for this one. Interesting to see how heavy a gauge has been suggested on here. I'll be rattling up another 1 or 2 in the months to come (probably be winter time again now tho.) So I'll have to buy my mesh next time around. My framework is perhaps on the 'heavy' side, but apart from having to figure out a str
  9. Do you have a link / Ref. No.? The 5' ones I'm seeing are £139. Cheers.
  10. F**k that! I'll stick with hydraulics.................at least if they're leaking you can see it!
  11. shoot at them with the pellet gun. +1 for the clipper lighter case.
  12. Got the 1st one already, .................and totally forgot about it! Got the theory in my noddle, but the size / weight of the gate seemsto be the issue I have to overcome. I'll away and dig ut my book tho and have a quick squint.
  13. Hello Folks, To cut a long story short, Has anyone got any designs / sketches / photos of a latch mechanism to keep my cage trap door open ? Gate is about 2' wide, 3' tall and made from 20mm box section. The wee design I had in my head isn't strong enough, so rather than me try to re-invent the wheel and get stressed out trying to over analyse everything, thought I'd ask on here for any ideas. Gate is hinged at the top, but I have a welder and a grinder, so anything can be ammended to suit. Any ideas would be much appreciated. Just heading back to have another look now,
  14. Well, Baited up a few shells with mustard and other spicy stuff on Saturday there. Initially caught 3 of them fighting over the shells! However, Since Sunday, we have managed to get 4 eggs a day, which is 4 more than we were getting. Looks like that may just have worked....and quick! We'll see how it goes. Cheers for your help folks.
  15. Cheers, We used to have a pile of stone / clay eggs when I was a youngster, but they're long gone now. Should be able to get my hands on a few golf balls easy enough, Between the golf balls, and a few shells filled with mustard, something might work.
  16. I know I shoulda done that, but they're the daughters' hens, and not sure how I would of explained that to them when they noticed there were a few missing. They'll get another few weeks to change their ways, cos I'll be away at work again, but if it's still happening when I get back, We'll have to clear some space in the freezer I think!
  17. Thanks for the replies folks. I had wondered about doing something with the nest box, so I'll maybe give it a bit more thought. Whilst I'm thinking, I'll maybe give that mustard thing a go, even if just for curiosity. Been working about 6 ft away from the henhouse today, 1 started it's squaking 'I've laid my egg' type thing, so in I goes......2 of the f**kers quite happily finishing off what was the egg!!!!!!!!!!!!! Maybe have a few hen sandwiches coming up in the next few weks!
  18. Apart from thrawing their necks, is there any way we can stop our hens from eatig their eggs? They just started this in the last 2 weeks or so, and it's annoying! Thanks,
  19. Eggs! Have you tried scrambling a hen?!!
  20. Well, you didn't expect us to go back a 2nd time did you?
  21. we would have to do it on the road. any snow we do have is now blocking them! Parks etc nearly bare!
