Cheers folks. It' the Panacur I got from the vet but was curious to know from some others. Few people have said not to do it hence my confusion / curiosity. Cheers.

Evening All, Just had my spaniel bitch scanned to confirm she is in pup...and she is. Vet advised me to start worming from day 40 until a week after pups are born. I have had several people 'advise' me not to. What is the general consensus on here? Thanks.

And the result was.......?

Thanks, I have been spending a bit more time with her these last few weeks to try and build a bit more of 'a bond' Like I say, not far from being spot on when on the lead / long line (apart from the releasing issue)...But when the line is off..... The fact she will pass the ball / dummy no bother when in her run got me wondering what was going on. She will come over and hold the ball / dummy up as if to present it to me when on the lead, but as soon as I make a move to accept it, the head goes down. I have always tried not to go straight for the dummy, and have always praised her when sh

Thanks again Casso, I'll try getting her more 'at ease' with me. She is sly. You can see her watching every move from the corner of her eyes.....but the ears switch off Cheers.

Thanks Casso, When she is on a long line she behaves 99% spot on! But still refuses to release. You can sometimes get it but more often than not she refuses to the extent she will bury her head down and put her feet over it! She always gets lots of praise (but no treats) when she does well, but she knows damned fine when the line comes off! I have 2 fenced off areas for her 'training' in the garden, where she behaves until that line comes off, with the exception of the releasing issue. I just happened to notice the release in the run caper the other day, so had a wee experiment with her a

I feel like it sometimes!

Looking for a reason for my dogs recent behaviour. When out training here, she will NOT release the dummy / ball whatever. Put her into her kennel, and she comes over and hands me the ball, and paws at me to let her have it - time and time again. Take her 2" outwith her run, and she's back to holding it again, with no inclination to release whatsoever! Another 'trait' she has developed is barking when returned to her run. Any pointers ? Oh, and why does she go deaf when more than 3 feet away? She is now 2,1/2 and her siblings are doing well with their respective owners. (wi

Evening All, Just wondering what everyone's regime is with their dogs? I have a 2 year old springer who is out 15 minutes in the morning, mainly walking / heel work. Back out for a 20 minutes or so in the afternoon, bit of a run around, then some (attempts at) training. Another 20-30 minutes later in the evening again, same as afternoon, bit of a run around, then attempts at training. She is VERY head strong, but starting to see a glimmer of light through that tunnel. Am I over doing it (as some have said) or should I be doing more (as others have said) ? She is my 1st dog,

That's the only thing left for me to do.

I started my pup in a similar way from the start. Walking zig - zag and tooting the whistle. On a long rope, she will do this all day long........ But take of the rope and it's a different story, which I'm now trying to recover from.

Fair enough

My one (2 years old almost) will do anything when she is on her lead. Take it off and it's a different story! She stops to the whistle, but has started coming back towards me before she finally does. Why 60 yards away? Just curious.
-
Thanks, Not too expensive for medication then, but not fine the fact it was required.

That could be it, I really don't know as I have yet to see it happen. Keeping a close eye, but as yet, no further episodes...

Thanks for the replies folks, She should have been on her regular food, cos I gave them her own food with her. I know 1 of her sisters is doing well in Field Tests at the moment, and no word of any problems. She is my 1st dog, and I am learning a lot along the way, but just as things are starting to take shape with her training, I have this to think about, and keep an eye on. Sorry to hear the outcome of those mentioned above. Not good atall. I can only keep an eye out I suppose, and see what happens. Thanks folks.

Just collected the dog from kennels after few days away, and kennel said that she had been (suspected) fitting. Said it had happened 3 times in 2 days. Took her to the vet and got full set of blood tests done which came back 'clear' as vet suspected they would. I have had her for 16 months and never seen anything happening, and no sign since I took her home 3 days ago. Vet said she would be susceptible to them (fits) anyway, but not sure why. (Just in season for the 1st time,18 month old small springer) Symptoms kennel owner said he saw were jaw locked open, standing still with her head 'sha

Happened to end up with a denti-stick thing in my pocket the other night. As soon as she smelled it, dummy was spat out and forgotten about. This is the reason I don't agree with the 'treat' thing, but you hear of people who get the results from using this method. Vet's husband has a few springers, and she suggested the treat method as a last resort. Finally seem to be getting somewhere with her training, and this happens! Thanks for your suggestions.

I'll give that a go. She is far too smart, and I can see where you're coming from with the second guess thing.
-
Heard of this before. Nothing working yet..... Been extra patient with her these last few weeks, and swapping dummys gets her letting go of the 1st one. Not sure why this has started as wife and kids don't go anywhere near her, and I've never entered a tug of war with her. (The dog, not the wife)

She releases when she sees a 2nd dummy. But then just holds the 1st, and looks at the 2nd! I'll give your suggestion a go later Today and see how it goes. Thanks.
-
I have tried not to be too quick at taking the dummy from her but maybe I have been. I'll just have to persevere and see what works I suppose. Thanks for the reply.

My 15 month old springer has been getting progressively worse at releasing anything when she comes back with it. She comes back, sits down (usually in front of me, head up, well presented) then as soon as I go to get the dummy, she turns away, or drops her head and 'holds onto' the dummy with her front feet! I have been patient up to now, but tonight it's wound me up, so here I am looking for any advice. Thanks.

Thanks for the replies, Believe you me, there have been times I have felt like kicking the little f**ker! Fortunately, I have refrained! The tiring her out 1st theory does seem to hold some weight. I have taken her out and let her have a good hike, and a run about, and she is easier handled / controlled then. She is my 1st dog, so they may all be the same, but at times you would say she was wired to the moon!. Very head strong, and as soon as the lead comes off, WHOOSH! Nose on the deck, and Gone! Been spending extra time with her since I did 1st post and I would say she is almos
