  1. They don't usually after earn money like normal folk though
  2. My dog was born in 98 I'm sure that name rings a bell
  3. My old dog is a 3/4 Hancock, was satisfied with him. Good on rabbit and hare, wouldn't touch fox though. Very good nose on him, had a few bad traits like sometimes opening up and constantly yapping at home but hey ho
  4. Would the do a rottie or akita? Well it's funny you should mention an Akita because, my first Saluki had incident with a local drug dealers Akita which was roaming the streets and he throated it before the Akita knew what had hit it, this was one of the first instances whereby I quickly came to learn that while most dogs merely go through the motions when clashing with other dogs, this Saluki was deadly serious and his intent was to kill the other dog no doubt about. Of cause 90% or more of rotties akitas etc have no experience of disabling large animals the only thing they use their te
  5. Post the write up cant beat ye olde books even If their methods are usually outdated
  6. That's the thing, we all would like a 1st cross off a good working collie put to a top quality greyhound. But for the average hunter who hasn't got the time, space or money what other option have you got? If you personally know someone who breeds them and you can be certain of the breeding then sure you'd take one over a Hancock.

  9. The thing is not many people have the time or space to produce linebred lurchers. If you don't personally know the breeder you could be buying any mix lurcher. My 3/4 Hancock was a very capable dog, never worked a dog with him that was faster, he had a good nose. Wouldn't tackle foxes but many don't and he sometimes yapped when he knew the hare was going to get to cover
  10. I like the look of the saluki x on the dog section of this site. It's a smooth coated red dog, can anyone post the pic of it? I wonder how the 1st x compares with high saluki blooded dogs on big rabbits? My Hancock 3/4 was very handy on them
  11. I'm guessing that the 1st cross saluki would be faster than my 3/4 collie/greyhound?
  12. That's the thing how does the first cross compare to heavy saluki type linebread dogs?
  13. She's took after the saluki looks wise, how is she performance wise?
  14. Only ever owned collie and bull crosses but thinking of trying a saluki cross. I know form should always follow function but I prefer the 1st crosses with their smooth hair. Do the pups take more after the greyhound ie fast, with little stamina or do you get the best of both worlds?
  15. Not many people are willing to give a good dog up no matter the money, I surely wouldn't
  16. Doesn't always work like that, put it this way you get a much better chance of having a dog that will take bigger game when it's a bull x
  17. They may have been well bred but they may have been poorly entered. I don't think it's acceptable for a dog to open up. There's plenty of people running whippets and whippet crosses that don't have problems with opening up. They can do it more than other breeds, if allowed to get frustrated or made to work too hard on their first runs. I've never had a collie crossed dog that yapped and neither have any of my pals. It'd be interesting for the collie cross owners on here to let me know if their dogs do it. I think a lot of it is to do with this current trend of trying to enter a dog at a
  18. They usually have a good lurcher and terrier show sometime in march I think
  19. thinking about getting 1 off him but he lives a good distance away from me He isn't exactly on the doorstep for me either, his breedings might not be top notch but at least you no what you're getting. If you put the work in chances are you'll get a good dog. Mine was very handy on rabbits and hares but wasn't too keen on things that bit back
  20. thinking about getting 1 off him but he lives a good distance away from me
  21. Try Hancock even though he's a peddler he has them all year round. Mines nearlly 14 and doesn't look like he's going to pop his clogs anytime soon! Ha
