  1. Out lamping I spotted a hare, slipped my collie cross who ran full pelt into it killing it stone dead haha
  2. I can't see why somebody would choose the cross over let's say collie for lamping rabbits, they are specialists in the hurt business!!
  3. How is a winner decided? Is it best of 3 in matches?
  4. No way is that thing a mere half a ton, that's got to be a fake pic. It looks bigger than a hippo for Christ sake!!
  5. some people just aint got the land to give a hare law bud cause of how tight the fields are. True if you live near small fields with fencing everywhere the dog would have no chance giving fair law
  6. avarage speed would be around 30mph Have you tested it before? I'm going to get myself one and record every run you can only really do it over a measured distance . my maths aint so good but worl it out over 500 yds which usually takes then 31seconds on the track.gives a rough ida you will only get an avarage ,thats all im sure i worked out at 480 mtrs in 30/31 sec it was over 30mph Jogging speedometers measure top speed, average speed, distance run. It will be very interesting to find out the results and differences due to running conditions, etc
  7. avarage speed would be around 30mph Have you tested it before? I'm going to get myself one and record every run
  8. Something I've never thought of before, it would be fascinating if one of you coursing boys put a speedometer on one of your dogs and measure its max and average speed, also the distance the run is. Wish my dog was younger but he's too old to run now. Looking forward to doing this when I get my next dog
  9. would of thought so myself mate a good dog would get beat by a good hare anyday of the week ive seen some of the best dogs run that as been around big match dogs in the past and they would kill good hares but now and then not very often but they would come across a top notch hare and its bye bye fact Was the dog off colour? Out of shape? We will never truly know. Sometimes the dogs are made to look average, I've never owned a true bred coursing dog, but even with my 3/4 collie x greyhound pursuing the hare always got me more excited than any other quarry
  10. A dog is obviously faster but it still as to predict where the hare is going to turn, never seen it with my dogs but can a good saluki out stamina a hare and run it to exhaustion?
  11. Top bred dogs and great conditioning
  12. mate imo most dogs will lug or bail a pig (catch or bay )a pig although i only run finder luggers and dispatch with a knife and dont see a bailer as a real pig dog lol all dogs should have a plate on and at very least a rip colar they dont kill pigs they hold a pig till the dogman is there best dog well that depends on terrain in aus there is a breed called bullarab proble one of the beter know perpose breed pig dogs world wide which is a finder luger but there are hell of a lot more some one menchend ned who has dogs called butters dogs also very good dogs line breed bullygrays b
  13. When my old boy pops his clogs these look like the dogs I could be interested in, I'm sure some of you guys would show me in flesh what they are like before I invest in a pup
  14. A good collie cross would do all that and be faster, don't you think there's a reason why it is not as common as a collie cross, for all round ability I don't think they can be beat
  15. I suspect the 1st x would be too slow, never seen a 3/4 x
  16. Stop readihg books or listening to old men, mate ! The dogs of today are fitter, better fed, better trained and better bred than "the old days" !! Believe me !! Cheers. I disagree as there are a lot more idiots about these days, not many men have the knowledge. Back in the day lurchers were kept to fill the pot, today they are mostly used for sport. Plus most lurchers outhere are not bred best to best so there's no real improvement. I guess the coursing dogs have improved through careful breedings over the years but don't agree with the lurchers being any better than years ago
  17. If these dogs are kept hidden then how would the author know them? Hed be better with the big names of the game as they are proven dogmen with good animals and people are familiar with them
  18. As long as all the top men are interviewed in depth the book would be great, breedings of dogs, diet, conditioning methods, opinions of different crosses etc 3/4 greyhound x saluki v 1/2saluki x 1/2 greyhound. As long as the writer does some thorough research it will be top notch. It would also be helpful if the author tells us what breeding the dog is under each picture
  19. I know a few lads on a bulldog forum in the states have coyotes attack their gamedogs while chained up, is this a regular occurrence where you live?
