  1. Agree about not just leaving them alone in a yard but the bouvier is not in my experience with them a high energy dog or highly string like many of the gsd, malanois and Doberman types (haven't had any experience with rottys) once they are trained up (which can be testing as they most definitely like to be boss) and past this puppy stage they are generally known for being very steady and sensible. They naturally guard but that generally involves placing themselves in what they deem to be the best place to guard and then looking like a black shag pile rug for the remainder until required. That

  3. From what I can gather they are still fairly popular on farms over in France and Belgium in that region and some police forces and prison services still use them. They have also been used a fair bit in Scandinavian country's in service and they have some of the best working blood nowadays bit I am by no means an expert on the breed just did some research when I got mine a while back atb
  4. Perhaps not but a lot of male bouviers in particular tower over a rotty in real life difficult to judge from photos atb
  5. I have walked the bouvier for 11 years and I can count on 1 hand how many people have patted her so they can't be that cute close up lol but I get your point. Think pictures can be deceptive though most bouviers are around 28-30 tts and weigh in at 50+ kg and have a head like a beachballBBCode

  8. I like the look of these I know there used in some police forces overseas can imagine by looking at them it's hard to find genuine working stock though they look perfect for the crusts ring lolIt's not that hard as thankfully on the continent they are still valued as a guard and as stated used in various police forces. Yes there are a few show folk on board with the breed but the thankfully they haven't ruined the breed and the best valued blood still comes from the workGoing to look into these mate so far the gsd is at the top of my list but is persuading this mrs as she's scared of German sh

This bitch was from a litter of 3 both her brothers served in the prison service and he dam was a
  10. Just a shout for the bouvier as an excellent natural guard and bomb proof with the family. Had this bitch from 9 weeks old and she has never put a foot wrong, bit of handful in the her youth but once she trained me up she has been a gem. Very smart breed tough as old boots great coat for the outdoors and natural fierce guarding instinct. Added bonus they are happy to laze around in the main but always alert to any action in a sensible way. Not a dog to just chuck in a yard and leave alone forever as they are very loyal to their family but not needy like many working breeds can be. She is in he
  11. Like this one of the pup last summer Not a runner but like this one of the little tyke atb
  12. Fair play, that's my out look however that first line is absolutely laughable Some lads live and breathe lurchers, as in they have no other interests , none. Don't think this is an exaggeration Twenty years ago I met a lad who had two off the best lurchers I've ever seen , I've mentioned them before but these two brindle litter brothers were weapons , killing machines, 100% on everything , as in everything , rabbits live to hand hares day and night , fox roe all preban To a teenage stiffy these two lean mean as stoat bull hybrids were mannah from heaven People on here
  13. Seems to me usually the problem is people buying in haste and then the realisation that they have a furry friend for the next decade or so and boredom soon sets in. If your do yor home work and have a bit of luck then most mutts should do the job required and lets face it for the vast majority of us it's not a job it's an enjoyable pastime. I have a young lurcher here who truth be told is no world beater but can't fault his effort, I could have gone to my uncle and got a pup of his dog which is proven and from what I have heard a top dog but in all honesty I probably couldn't do it justice and
  14. So what happens when your lurcher catches retrieves back surely the rabbits aren't mute as well? i never said i was in a silent movie mate of cource we make some noise but the less the better in this place. Yes I get that, my point being if your catching on any land no matter what game, their is generally a commotion and a level of noise that is enough to alert plenty close by.

  16. There is a big difference between a yapping little dog bombing about and a busher that opens up when in close contact in cover. The little terrier I have never barks unless right on the back of things and without This quality we would catch nothing where I mooch. With experience The lurchers soon learn to position themselves accordingly around cover and again with experience it also tells you what is in the cover which can be handy, just my experience atb
  17. If I have dogs I only really use llanberis route although during the holidays it will be busy on the main routes and takes a bit of the magic away when it's busy IMO still a great site at the top on a clear day though, as been said pack appropriately you can generally take 10 to 15 deg off the temp from top to bottom and that without wind chill enjoy
  18. thinking of getting another pom fuji.?even i want a pom now.No lol, when the Poms gone I'm thinking about getting myself a little Schnauzer mate,my sister has one & it's a cracker of a dog,i reckon one of them would suit me lol ? Wise choice squirrel experts the old schnauzers atb
  19. Just to add any time a dog chases game you have to accept it might end in tears no matter what cross and lady luck plays a huge part in the life of a runner alongside a sensible owner atb
  20. In my eyes any dog with a serious ammount of drive can have injuries and chances are if you work them regularly they will have their fair share of injuries unless Lady Luck plays a huge part. We have kept pure greyhounds that have worked consistently and none died in the field although it was heart in your mouth at times, one ended up with very few toes another I grew up with never had any major issues but she had a bit of brain about her. Have they faired any worse then the lurcher we have had? Probably not in truth, but then the lurchers have all been heavy greyhound blooded anyway and when
  21. Had some good advice already tbh but for my penny worth I teach in a special school which A fair proportion of the kids are on the asd scale right through the spectrum, I regularly take the dogs in to work for the kids to handle groom etc and we even get the lure out on the field occasionally for the lurcher to run against the kids. My observations have been that all four of my dogs are happy enough around the kids and do seen I have an understanding of them however loud it becomes but they all need a place they can chill out like all dogs. If it were me and I was dead set on getting a dog I p
  22. What Batt was you in and when ? Sent you a pm fella
  23. Usually jumping out of one not sure if they are good memories or not tbh great sight in the skies

Not all greyhounds are out and out sprinters though tbf they are stayers out there granted not o
