Dogs anxiety hearing shotgun noise any help please
terryd replied to ADAM C's topic in Working Dog Health & Training Talk
Deffo an age thing as said. Mine will sit in a hide and tell me what direction ducks are coming from as it gets dark and doesnt react to the gun at all other than wanting to plough out the hide and decimate what I have just shot. But over the last two three years fireworks and back firing exhausts have started bothering him. As for fix just build him up i guess but will be long haul -
Had this jill a few years ago now. She was a terrific finder which when your on your own doing thick hedge is great because what ever hole you put her in she got straight to business with no messing about. This was her last trip out and she struggled and was gone few months later

I all ways lamped a dog up hills by walking along the bottom the plan being when the dog went up and then swung round around after the rabbit or tried to intercept it. It would have some inkling of what it was running on. Rather than go along the top and send your dog blasting off down into the unknown. Just common sense I guess

With things being relaxed it is going to rip around so personally I will wear mask in shops and keep to my self which is what I do any way so makes no odds

What’s people’s preferred cross for a rabbit dog!
terryd replied to LamperNM's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
Yea only because I had one and when it came to day time and ferreting he would have trounced any lurcher lol. Once he hit a line it was pretty much game over if i did my bit. But yes I know this thread is about lurchers lol -

Good JR with a good nose and the inclination to use it coupled with a ferret and nets. You won't lose much at all fact -
Yea my cousin had the capri back then. I upgraded if you can call it that to a big old sherpa van. There was one spot you drove about mile down forestry track and crossed a river back up other side and then lamp on top of the mountain. Was cracking spot and I only new of it cause I worked in the woods and spotted the signs about. It lashed down with rain one night and driving out over the river could feel the van getting nudged sideways. Didn't give monkeys back then. Be bricking it now a days lol
