  1. My terrier had never shown any interest in rabbits dead or alive, nevermind marked a hole before! I am in the same siuation as yourself regarding holes. (know open banks). I took him ferreting with me one day, went to a place where i had seen rabbits so i was certian they where there and he showed no interest in any holes; that was untill he saw them bolting!! After that he started working every hole he passed, then started to cast straight over some and mark others. Now he will take a line from the middle of a field and lead us straight to the hole! He has turned out to be very handy and has
  2. Thanks for all the replies. This is my second season ferreting now and everyday I go out I come back having learnt something new. I hope this will keep happening for a few years to come. I guess its like they say, you learn something new everyday.
  3. Best to way lay purse nets? . . . I have been told lots of different ways; 1) Net stretched tight like a web with the middle of the net over the hole. 2) The complete opposite, drape the net over the hole and tuck the bottom ring down the hole so the rabbit stands on the net as it bolts. 3) A mix of the two, lay the net tight but push the bottom ring into the ground to add that bit of resistance so the net purses more from the top. I can understand the reasoning and theory behind all three ways but as we all know theory doesnt always convert into reality! So rather then theory lets
  4. I have never used bells myself, however at the midlands game fair this year I was talking to The Warrener as he was there promoting his latest DVD. When asked to for some tips on ferreting he said this is the best one he could give anyone. "use a little cat bell on an elastic band so that if it gets snagged up the ferret will not get stuck, the band will either pull off or snap. Rabbits hear the bell aswell as winding the ferret and it puts them on edge. you get quicker bolts and less layups".
