  1. I have a 10month old Kelpie/GH whippet/GH. I have been doing some road work with her for a few months now, gradually building up to 6mile a day within the last few weeks. I go on a bike with the dog in a steady trot. 6miles takes us about 45 mins if you can gauge a speed from that. Recently one of her front pads has started to split and crack (only the front left though) causing her to be ever so slightly lame. My question is what to do now? Do I lay of it completely or just walk rather than bike until it heals? She is at a good level of fitness and will happily and easily do the mileage we
  2. Mine took 7 months before my visit and then came through 3days later!
  3. So who's better NGO or BASC?? I'm going to be joining one of them at Weston Park and as good as their respective sales pitches are I'd rather hear it from a person who has had dealings with them... I'm not too fussed on saving 4 quid a year or whatever I'm just looking for the best possible cover for circa £30 per anum. Obviosuly looking for Personnel cover / property damage which will cover Shotgun, Rifle and feldsports such as ferreting and using lurchers. What would you guys recommend...
  4. I agree with what Rich.h has said tbh Myles. You need to bite the bullet here. If you stay as you are your ferret is going to suffer and deteriorate in condition. It's just not fair on the animal. You've got two options... Option A. Another ferret and do it. don't be half hearted. get them out, socialise them with you and your hands etc, keep them clean, fed and watered. Don't give your mother nor your friends mother any small speck of an excuse to ask you to get rid. Option B. Find another ferret owner and explain your situation as Rich.h has said. you're keen on t
  5. Another ferret is a must. If you've got one then there's definately no con's in having another only benefits. You will both be better for it. Your first ferret will be happier as it has a mate and it will be healthier as a rule, a lonely ferret gets depressed. Also with having two its not having to work all the land as you will have effectively halved his / her workload. Think about the work that a sole ferret will have to go through under-ground... You a blatently going to miss rabbits / make your ferret work needlessly harder and into an early grave. I notice you say it lives at your mat
  6. Just handle them normally, not rough, think about how you would react if you were handled rough... you're asking for a bite. Just pick them up nice and easy, stretch them out, stroke em under the chin, do what ever you want just keep them happy. Get them comfortable to your scent and touch. The more you handle them the better they will be with you, obviously. They still might try an odd nip a couple of times but that's just part of them getting use to you. Just be patient. Don't expect miracles off them overnight they need time to settle in and get used to you. Yeah mine (and I bet most p

Were they bred from his 2nd generation Polecat Jill?? He was charging £20 a head for an 8 week old ferret. £50 for a 3rd Generation Polecat... Mother was a 2nd Gen Polecat... but what was father!?

  15. Good Post! I agree when people say "you shouldn’t let it worry you" and I wouldn’t myself, however for some people it may do. Not everyone is the same or has the opportunity to be the same even if they wanted to. I see THL as a helpful and encouraging site where you can learn from and enjoy others experiences, but sometimes, like already stated, it’s becoming more and more often that it’s the complete opposite. Less hate more love people. ATB T42
  16. Terrier Song There’s many a song about hunting, huntsmen are honoured by name, But there’s never a song about terriers, that in Lakeland have gained lasting fame, No pedigrees have these brave warriors, their colours no rules can define, They’re bred for pluck and spirit, with a heart as big as a lion. Chorus: So always remember your terriers, protect them from wet and from cold, For the love of a tyke for it’s master, can never be measured in gold. Whether he’s rough or smooth coated, he’ll tackle badger, otter or fox, Run a drain or creep into a soil hole, or sque
