  1. Got to enjoy every minute you can.
  2. Looks like you have your pike bait sorted early, great job.
  3. His wife must of blew it up too much, should of give himself a puncture.
  4. This book got me into the pheasant tail nymph in a big way, it got to were i always had a p.t.n on the point, also learned me to put lead wire on the hook under the dressing, and last of all it caught me a few extra fish.
  5. I keep saying that i'm going to read this one, i'm reading jim shelley's at the minute and looking forward to his new one.
  6. You can't beat making and catching on baits you have made yourself, i make my own base mixes up and do ok on them, i have no reason to buy the silly priced named boilies, i have had more success on my own, than any other bait, i don't go mad on flavour's, as my ingredients should attract the fish, its not hard to knock a few kg's up. I think once you start it, there is no going back, i do still buy odd baits ie. pellets, seeds, nuts, but very rare do i buy boilies and if i have to pile the bait in to keep a swim going, i don't have to worry what it cost's, some lad's must go through £50-£60 of
  7. This sounds great, i might even have a look, great job the lads who have got this up and running.
  8. These otters are causing a lot of problems and costing some people a hell of a lot, but so are cormarants and they got left, we have no chance of being able to control these things, if its interfering with peoples lives, like fishery owners or others who work in the fishing industery, they should be given permission to control them, it will get worse.
  9. Great looking fish mate, never seen them that colour before.
  10. Too many do gooders mate, more worried over animals out in the country than there own kids half the time, they know were every cormarant is in the country, but haven't a clue were there kids are.
  11. Maybe a link ledger in the pools, you could always trot a stick float through and hold back now and again.
  12. I have never fished small streams but i would be thinking about a small fly rod, maybe about a 5 weight, small fly reel and as for fly's i would think really small spider patterns, wickhams fancy and i always have to have a couple of pheasant tail nymphs, as for a leader, i would think 2lb-3lb, but that depends on the size of fish, like i said i have never fished this type of water, more river and lake fishing so maybe this set up can be tweaked a bit, good luck.
  13. Welcome to the site mate, i do a lot of fishing in and around cheshire, great place to be out and about.
  14. I'm been fishing a couple of swims i've found on a canal and all i see is the odd dog walker, there are miles of water just left alone and hardly fished, once i started regular baiting in a few likely looking swims they started to produce, it was hard work at first for little effort but it is starting to come good, nothing fancy, basic rigs and basic baits, mainly hemp, corn, groats, luncheon meat, maggots, bread and a few pellets, not all at once but keep swapping them around, and no-one about to see me baiting my swims up and jumping in them, i'm enjoying my fishing again as i was getting fed
  15. Just heard gord burton has just had a really good pike, supposed to be 34 plus, that's a great catch and good to hear of gord doing the business, haven't seen a picture yet but looking forward to seeing one, he pulls some faces on his pics, he's a great character and i hear of him helping people every time he can, he doesn't seem to crave the limelight, he just does his own thing and still fishes his local waters regular, hopefully if a pic comes out someone can put it on here for all to see.
  16. This has took me back years, i have just gone through my first 10 years of fishing reading this thread (brilliant) just grabbing a rod, which was all set up with reel, float, hook, one bait tub, a few bits of tackle like shot, hooks in my pocket and a bottle of orange juice and i would be gone till tea, (then i was straight back) and i done alright, i knew everyone on the canal and every little space, why do i take so much stuff now.
  17. Once you know the basics try to get out as much as you can and you will learn something most day's, i.e. how they respond to different feeding, float or feeder, bait choice, the list is endless, i'm still learning after 30 years, but thats why we love it, just get out there and enjoy it.
  18. So when one of them is eyeing your house up, don't go out and slap him with a bat, give him some money so he can go and get treatment, haha, i think the best treatment is the first one.
  19. The fishing has also not been up to the usual this winter and that is up and down the country, hopefully this spring will get things back to normal.
  20. Would you split it up, or is it one job lot.
