  5. why would anyone want a a racy athletic powerfull dog with maybe abit more courage that would finish things quick and not take much punishment back why do people use proper bull terriers over greyhounds and produce similar types just out of interest what type of cross do you have as we can only run rabbits in this part of the world we have bull greyhounds and a couple bred half minshaw lurchers........they are racey......powerfull........and athletic and do what is asked of them........... Nowt personal but there just seems to be a strange fasination with throwing huge meatheaded d

  9. WHY..WHY..WHY..WHY..WHY..WHY...WHY..WHY..WHY I cannot see any use for a racey dog with a head like a dumper truck..........unless its for drawing in some other part of the world.
  10. pup looks fine to me.........as a rule of thumb..carbs for weight, protien for muscle mass Carbs...bread....pasta...potatoe (starchy food ) Protien ..any meat or fish / eggs. its not rocket sciecne...if you put in more calaories than the pup can burn off...then it will gain weight. Make sure it gets all it needs at the moment , so it bones skeletal frame grows properly.......nowt wrong with a fat pup...you can always burn it off.......not so easy it a pup is malnurished.. You will find it will grow up...and grow out...grow up..and grow out... all the best
  11. my greyhound was the same.......nothing wrong with him...he just started to lose composition from working. I intended to lamp with him and he came on very well.......but even 4 short sessions a week on an hour or 2 was too much, and he started to 'go light'.....ex rack dogs get run once a week......and mulitple nights just canes em Another consideration is cold.........greys are very thin skinned and in a cold kenel a night...they can expend a massive ammount of energy jsut keeping warm..........where a good bodied lurcher would have no problem... My sleeping quaters are 10ft
  12. this time of year mine get fed twice a day...in the morning...6 large handfulls of Dr John silver each..(in laymans terms)...with warm water....on a t -time...a little less with half a raw rabbt each on alternate nights....in between that they get pasta or general left overs..or pilchards with the mixer For an indication of cost..the bag of mixer lasts 2.5 weeks ( £8.00 )..the rabbits we go back into the dogs..and the paster and leftovers cost nothing............... in £ nots that about £2 a week per dog..........................thats not too bad is it? a pal found a row pric
  13. Supa glue should not be used ....the use of supaglue ,if a dog is bleeding in the field profusely ,clean wound then use to stem the bleeding get to vet,if the wound not clean u seal shit in which ill cause infection ...by the sound of it you may have start of infection already ,,,clean wound throughly ,with saline keep the wound protected if possible as others have stated ... however it may need a course of antibiotics...get it to the vet Regards Steve thank alot.............................................
  14. thanks all...is the super glue bad idea???.....only I read asomehwere earlier on here this week that it was originally designed to close open wounds in battle....??? just a thought?
  15. thasnk mate..not sure what a strdant tube is tho DOH:
  16. one of my lurchers sustained a minor injury about a week ago to the tip of the tail..........aprox 10 mill ....I have been keeping an eye on it and it hasn't been casuing any immediate problems, apart for bleeding occasionally. This morning it seems the 10 mill damage part from the tip has dropped of and had been bleeding quite badly in the kennel....... Other that bathing reguarly and spraying with savlon.....it there anything else I could do?....it looks quite raw, infact you can see a small piece of gristle. I have heard of some folks sealing such an injury with super glue....
  17. Labsnlurcher...........very clever indeed!!!!!! this could rumble on for ages A very open ended question actually....with a multitude and potential answers and theories and possibilties....... good un............ Cant wait to see what the self opinionated amongst us think to this one!! LoL
  18. good question..................... however..what about this? ....two dogs the same age, bred the exactly the same way....housed in the same kennel.....fed on the same food. One is road walked, and run morning and night.......the other is excercised gently, once a day. ......the dog that has had excessive road walking and hard running is now more muscled, and subsequently quite abit heavier. The other in very good health but has developed more naturally. Here's the test...from a standing start both are slipped on 200 yard squatter (which they have both seen!). Which
