  1. I can tell you about the weight, which you'll sometimes see as just Z. So, 4Z, 6Z, 8Z 10Z, 12Z. These essentially are the grade of the net material. The heavier the net, the thicker the material is (more strands in the line of thread that was used to make the net). Some people don't see this as being important, and sometimes they're right, but personally, I prefer a heavier net because I often set thick briar and brambles, hedgerows, forests, etc. A lower weight net tangles a lot better, so can have benefits when trying to tangle a rabbit, but not when you want to set in an environment like th
  2. Drop trap? Is it one of these: http://www.google.co.uk/imgres?imgurl=http://www.rabbittrap.co.uk/resources/trap%2Bin%2Bshed.jpg&imgrefurl=http://www.rabbittrap.co.uk/&h=151&w=201&sz=9&tbnid=1lzvZ6SR9ZVpPM:&tbnh=92&tbnw=122&prev=/search%3Fq%3Ddrop%2Btraps%26tbm%3Disch%26tbo%3Du&zoom=1&q=drop+traps&docid=dKOTbECy6RRPaM&sa=X&ei=annNTutHhaHxA-bE6WM&ved=0CIoBEPUBMAY&dur=180 That's what it sounds like. Atb, Bunny,
  3. So, I was recently dropping in some rabbits to my local butchery, when I was introduced into a local patron of the shop. It was the Right Honourable Jack Straw, and he wanted me to ferret his land! I didn't have a clue who he was. It was only until he left the shop, that the daughter of my butcher told me who he was. I swiftly googled him to read his record. Impressive man. Needless to say, I was star struck upon knocking on his door early this morning in the crisp fog raising from the cold hard ground. We started the day by sitting in his kitchen, having a nice cuppa while we discussed views
  4. Poaching for a start. I found that poachers treated the ferrets with little respect either. To them, it's just a cheap tool, it's fine to bugger off and leave it down a hole if they get caught and run. They knock their ferrets around, they tend to be stolen too. I may be rather stereotypical here, but from the poachers I've seen, I don't like it and so would avoid it. Atb, Bunny.
  5. Nets - Don't be cheap. Get either thick nylon, hemp or good spun poly. I find 3"6' work well on most holes. I would get at least 20, in case of a larger warren if you're starting out. Finders - These aren't massively expensive compared to shotguns, New Air guns and even some fishing rods, the difference is that it's not a must to own one, just safer. They can be picked up second hand with 2 collars from about £. Ferrets - Get at least two, maybe even 3 or 4. Make sure the hutch, cage or shed has plenty of space, things to play on and is going to be warm enough. They are social and acti
  6. For Paunching, use a mini pocket knife like the miniature swiss army. The point is perfect for piercing skin and the blade isn't long enough to nick the intestines. I then use a pair of sterile garden secateurs to take the paws and head off. All can go in the dishwasher and be thoroughly cleaned. Atb, Bunny
  7. Never used one to date. If you make sure your ferrets aren't over worked and they're fed a few hours before going out, they won't lay up in my opinion. I rotate my 5 in when they work during the day. Never lost a ferret yet. Atb, Bunny.
  8. This interests me now. Why do you want to release them onto your land? Atb, Bunny.
  9. What about a Mk 1 and 1 collar? What net type, size, how many? etc. Atb, Bunny.
  10. Believe it or not, Goose feathers. Especially the downy ones. They're toasty in that stuff. Pheasant feathers, pigeon feathers, duck feathers, crow feathers. Get the idea yet? Feathers. Lots of them. As your local estate/shooting syndicate if they can keep the feathers in a bin bag/sack for you. Store it in the shed, lasts most of the winter after just a few 150 bird days. The bottom of the cage is sawdust then I bung the feathers on top of the sawdust in the bedding part. Atb, Bunny.
  11. Welcome to the best hunting forum on the internet (in my opinion). Atb, Bunny.
  12. Did it go to 150 bar pretty easily? This may be the pressure just building in the pump as there was already around 150 bar in the cylinder. If you pump for an extended period of time, and it doesn't even creep up, then empty the cylinder and start again. If it fails to come up above 150 bar again, check the pump on another cylinder if you have one, else ask someone else because I ran out of ideas. Atb, Bunny.
