    your lucky in the fact you have a dog at that age thats a blank canvas and not been ruined already and he will have all summer to get to know and bond with each other the fact it came back or didnt kill the ferrets is a bonus i take it hes only just got the dog so put the hours in training bonding maybe let it see another dog have a run later on when all the basics are in place its unsure what is expected of it and and some dogs wont run for another man or retrieve when another dogs there they can be funny things at times but patience and bonding and a bit of encouragement and im sure it wil

    depending were in cumbria you are i suppose but theres plenty round cumbria i know of and some very good lads and dogs to but like you say some rough walking to be had in parts but some spots can make it worth while

    i have seen plenty taken without a motor on different ground and walked the fact you say they need motor is something i know is wrong but you have seen what you have seen and maybe the bin lickers i had and the others i seen were more handy that i gave credit for but we all have are own take on it matey

    not amazing but made my day when i saw it i have watched stoats hunting a few times and with success running rabbits out in the open great stamina for such little things i sat and watched fox cubs play fighting rolling round in the grass loads of times even 2 young badger cubs rolling round must of only been 20 feet away totally unware for that few moments king fishers catching and feeding there young on the local canal use to see a barn owl regular down the local fields even hares boxing i can sit and watch nature all day it has always amazed me

    was that through books or person bosun because has a youngster i often found myself reading his books and day dreaming at school of doing the same my old man didnt have anything goood to say about him or his terriers and meeting him in person when i was young seem some what of a let down but i do know my old man and a few others did have words on how earth work and what a decent terrier was at a fmwtc evening

    mine was my old man and my mates granddad but my old man packed up when he met a bit of fluff down the club and she didnt agree with it shame has he dug a lot of gear and had some useful terriers and mixed in good company but my mates granddad was a well known and very respected countryman and poacher he taught me so much and one thing he always preached was respect for both quarry and land and always leave something for tomorrow which i didnt always listen to but a true genuine countryman set in his ways but very educated in wildlife and its living ways sadly a very rare breed theses days

    spot on bosun i dont think you could have put it better if you want the coat and still keep the fire try a wheaton or a decent working bedlington but i always prefer them put to a grey over a whippet but theres some nice dogs on this thread

    its true that ray my old man always told us lot 7 lads 2 girls there is only 1 true friend you have and thats your mum she saved me and the others many a time one way and another and defended us to the end i love mine to bits shes never had it good but always made sure we had a good meal and warm clothes and now we all try and repay that anyway we can and some how the lads seemed closer to her than the girls for some reason and happy birthday for yesterday mo

    i wish i had a pound for every knock back and dont let me catch you on here with a dog but if you get one place and look after the farmer and land it does open doors i found the word lurcher normally gets me knocked back or door shut in my face unless you offer them something in return like a days graft or your services if your say a sparky or builder offer to do work for them but it is hard work

    the mrs is going to one tomorrow night shes neither a believer or non believer but is open to the after life so whats folks thoughts on it are mediums praying on desperate folks hoping there is a after life to get in touch with a love one or is there such a thing has after life and spirits
