Id start looking at your neighbours. Someone must of tipped them off. And to take the lot they must of been watching for a while. They must have some kind of evidence... Or think they do. ..and depending on the breed.. to have a dog with battle scars.... you may have a job getting them back... That's my thoughts on it.

Ahh re-read it. ''just lurcher slitely knocked up '' Lurcher slightly knocked up = Wounds from fox hunting. You were suspected of hunting foxes and one of your dogs was injured from one.... Correct?
-
What? What was the reasons for them to do this?

I agree ^ Black dog looked good when accelerating. Got thrown off on a few turns. But did the job in the end. Nice vid. -
Yep, I certainly back them in terms of speed and stamina. Very lean dogs too. Yeah there was a lot of dog rescue places. The Spanish don't give a shit about their animals. If they have a litter of pups or kittens they get dumped on the river bed. It's actually a huge problem over there because a lot of them a turning feral. The cats aren't so bad, they were pretty good to hunt... But when you come across a pack of feral dogs in the middle of nowhere you get a little wary. I used to always take my rotty and a 6 inch hunting knife strapped to my belt. Never know if a boar or wild dog is

Yep too far down... lol. It was a great way of life. I worked in construction for 4 years. But the work dried up a hell of a lot and it got hit HARD by the recession. It was so frustrating though, I used to walk miles and miles over mountain ranges looking for a little patch of Nirvana. Because the hares were everywhere but so was the mountains I was determined to find a patch of flat land and find a hare. All tge flat land was covered in dam olive or almond trees!!!( Yes beautiful in flower, but not great when your dog has to run rings around them ) One day I did find a spot though...

A few pictures of the land I used to try and hunt. A lot of Hares... but no hope. Sorry for taking the thread slightly off track. I think the point i'm trying to make is that the Galgos is the only dog I have seen that can handle the hills. Maybe a pure Saluki would be equally as good. But they didn't have many pures over there.

Yeah there is, but it's not 100% effective. She had the jab when I first got there. I lived about 50 miles from Almeria in the Almanzora valley. I lived pretty much in the middle of no where. The only farmers around were Olive and Almond farmers. And obviously the old Goat farmers who walk their goats everywhere. But they didn't mind. If it's fenced off you don't go in. And there was no fences where I was. Just miles and miles of mountains.

I didn't, but a lot of the local guys from the village owned them and I saw them in action on the mountains. I don't know how, but I persisted with my bitch for the 4 years I was there. I went out every weekend with her. Used to walk MILES. Every Hare I spotted was already halfway up the mountain. She would spot it and follow up with the scent... But the Hare had too much of an advantage. She dies from a horrible disease called Leishmaniasis. It's spread by the bite of a sandfly and causes the immune system to shut down. She died from the inside out and I didn't even know she

Yep, I have always liked the Spanish Galgos. I lived over there for around 4-5 years and saw many of them. The Spanish enjoy their coursing, however it is much more popular in the north where there is more flat land and it's not as hot. They like to run the Galgos. They are a great dog and handle the heat and terrain great. My 3/4 hound struggled when I moved to southern Spain. She was brought up in Ireland and taking 4/5 hares most weekends. For the 4 years I lived in Spain she only ever caught 1 jackrabbit. That was it. The mountains just killed her. The hares in the south sit in the

Do you have a preference Rough or Smooth coat lurchers
Matt3699 replied to djs7547's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
Yeah no doubt it doesn't effect the ability of the dog. I prefer smooth coat. That is just personal preference though. -
Just read -17 C! Dam some hardy dogs.

I definitely understand the Saluki mentality. Haha, they can be quite frustrating at times. But as everyone has said. Patience with them is a must. Luckily my bitch has good recall, she knows when it's time to go on the lead and seems happy with it and she listens to most things I say... Took a while and spending as much time with her during the day and night. I started training her like I did my last 3/4 hound and soon realised she was revolting... So I had to go for a softer approach. If you don't respect them they wont respect you. It's almost like you have to make friends with them

Some land you have there. Nice video!

Cheers mate, yours is looking good too from what I can see. Looks racy. Definitely a nice cross to look at. Lets hope they catch just as well!

some advice about wich lurcher to get??
Matt3699 replied to dannyevans1990's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
This. Bull isn't necessary if you are catching rabbits and the odd fox. A good collie x hound could do the job just as well. My old 3/4 hound was a beast on foxes and not a shread of bull in her. Not that i'm dissing the bull crosses. -
Pure Greyhound....or Pure Saluki ??
Matt3699 replied to chartpolski's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
Now I understand the question The word coursing and saluki made the Hare bells ring. -
