  1. Ask the guide if he'll let you shot lead inland...
  2. Andy Richardson, or Dave Virtue are good shouts, however, as for every wild quarry, weather, feed and other things will determine success or failure where you going shooting?
  3. i save about £20 x 1000 but if you shoot clay you could save more! but if you throw in the fun and become passionate about it make it a lot better!
  4. I eat them if they are round the farm and not towns close by. The problem with them is that if there are towns around, they'll go and eat rubbish and get infected, if they're round the farm they'll eat what is available to other animals you shoot anyway (woodies, pheasant, rabbits, etc) so, in fact there is no difference!
  5. Some swear by those hypa, I had mixed experience. On their day they are better than real ones but on certain days you'd better take them off and wait for the real ones as they scare the sh*t out of them
  6. not much luck mate! I'm from Edinburgh too but found nae help! Met a chap down the border who takes me out for £25 a pop, not many pigeons but get the odd few days, some ducks, pheasant, hares, crows, usual stuff! some blanks too but the guy is nice and he takes you round his land to try and get you few shots. I don't go out much, maybe once a month so...not really fussy about the money. But if you find someone willing to give a hand....I got all the gear and motor! Ta Franco
  7. My hatsans work fine on both 12g and 20g, never had any issue with shells. 12 shoots 24gr to 53gr 20 shoots 21gr to 34gr I always had Beretta in my life (and still have) but the wee Hatsan does the job as well.....and for the price... you don't mind it it receives a rough treatment especially when wildflowing! Thanks, Franco
  8. Whatch out with steel!! it's totally different than lead and can blow you up! If you want more info PM me! Cheers, Franco
  9. It must be the Lothians cursed then Since you've got so much anybody needs help with them lol
  10. Hi All, I can't seem to be able to find any pigeons round here (edinburgh / Lothian). I've asked few friends to speak to farmers round their area and nowt! they won't give out permission either as they don't need to since their fields are not getting hammered. By comparison, down south it seems that any field with rape is getting cleaned up and people are offering shooting at every opportunity as they can't get them under control...... any thought to spare? Thanks, Franco
  11. Good Luck mate! If I can jump on.... I'm looking for the same!! Unfortunately there seem to be not much happening at least down my way (edinburgh) but would welcome a trip anywhere to get a decent bag for the wee man. )) Asked some farms and some guide but they all say wait till april.... The pigeons seem to have mooved down south, especiallly central/south of england getting hammered at the time but don't relly wanna travel that far.... Cheers, franco
  12. I personally wouldn't shot a 23gr to a geese flying by... pigeon are alright over decoys, but say on a roost on the edge of a thick pine tree, I wouldn't shoot them either with that load risking to get them into the wood, woonded, and not being able to find them, I am pretty sure you have lots of success with 23gr (or 16 in 28cal) same as I had on .410 it all depends on the situation for me. Here, my personal situation dictate that I need certain loads to make sure I land the quarry and not loos it. On acers of stubble I'd be more than happ to use 24gr but I don't have them on my p
  13. I remember when "normal" was 23gram! I now shoot 21gram light, 24 gram normal and 28 gram heavy!! Aargh, how old am I getting. It's my passion for reloading mate, I load too many light loads I got tired!! Seriously, for the places i shoot 27 is the minimum acceptable coz pigeon fly high then 30 for rough shooting and 32-35 for geese! I am not lucky enough to have several permission and be able to choose the best one so, I need to make every shot count otherwise the missus
  14. they do on the long run but not that much. I use very expensive powder and make a £20 save every 1000 shells. Said that I don't load cheap catridges, I load 27, 30 & 34 grams in 20g (which are: normal, heavy and magnum loads)I suppose I could save more with a cheaper powder and loads of 24-26grams.
