After several PM's from the UK members on this forum who are concerned with this getting much too "confrontational", I will respect their wishes and suggestions and refrain by not furthering anymore comments on this matter. I am, after all, merely a "guest" here, and my conduct as an American, should reflect one of manners and respect! I am on here to learn and to share my experiences, if not even just to be entertained. I appologise if my I have offended anyone with my demeaner.( Perhaps it's me Scottish blood ...) My original "post" was to share a DVD on the foothold trap that they use to h

Guess it was the AMERICAN FLAG that tipped ye off, eh? (LOL) Let's do something constructive than worry about lil' ol' me....like kill some rats or moles or foxes.....ye' know, REAL IMPORTANT STUFF!

I am who I've always said I was...period. Nothing has been different with the exception of my last name, which isn't legally "vixen" although my 1st name really is Victoria and yes, I am a lady, quite one, if I do say so myself! No I am not conceited either.....But I am very knowledgeable on trapping, snaring, and nuisance or pest control....Why?.... because I've lived and breathed since 1971. One should understand that throughout my career, I never felt I had anything to prove....except to do my job and do it well. My self esteem is quite intact! My coming out into the spotlight serves no pur

Doesn't look familiar.....but sure I've heard of Red O'Hearn and Phil Brown and Don Bolte and The Leggets and Bud Hall and Craig O Gorman and Marty Stenecker and the late Pud Long etc, etc ,etc,..............Duh? What does that have to do with $#it? If you're not one of them what does it matter? A lot of these guys sell things like instructions or "how to" videos or lure.................DUH! ......you always hear about the large catches if a guy has something to sell! How many Cajuns you know in Louisiana catching thousands of muskrats, year after year? Know any of them? Probably not! Same

The 10,000 plus animals is over a 30 year period smartass. Do the math.....do you realize that there are guys in Iowa that snare from 600 to close to a thousand 'coon every year? Duh! Do the math on that one! How many ' coons plus fox and coyotes do you think they caught in snares in say 10 -20 years? It only takes 500 animals a season x 20 years to become 10,000..... That is in a 3 month season too. I snared and trapped 12 months a year since 1971...........I take it that MATH was not your strong point!!! The best "high rollers" are for the most part not in print and if you've been around the

Nightrunner, Where do you live? You sound like an American that knows the inside scoop. I am currently a member of the NTA as well as several other trapping organizations. I have spent over thirty years as a fur trapper and an ADC agent. This is the first I have heard of this incident with the NTA and this video. I still stand behind the NTA although this certainly needs to be cleaned up. One should realize that "United We Stand, Divided We Fall" includes us trappers! (and yes, most trappers in the US and Canada harvest the animals that they catch. Letting an animal go was strictly for show.)

Good job!: Remember a squirrel is just a rat in a cuter outfit!!! HA!

For whatever it's worth, I've caught thousands of squirrels over my career in cage traps (8x8x18), both on the ground and by setting on a board mounted on an "L" bracket and then mounted on the side of a tree with screws and a cordless drill. The bait in placed in a small "tin" (sardine) in the back of the cage trap. The bait I always made myself by using peanut butter as a base.I slowly melted this in a microwave and then added sunflower seeds and whole kernal (feed) corn, plus nut extracts such as walnut, pecan, hazelnut, almond and a touch of vanilla. Once stirred, it is set in the fridge t

Reception from the anti trapping brigade? Good question! There certainly are a lot of people to view this. For the most part, we hope to educate the ones who are "on the fence" or that don't have an opinion. The true" animal rights extremistâ€, well that certainly is a different matter all together, isn't it? Unfortunately for many of those no amount of education will change their minds. Many trappers throughout the world have lost some of their valuable harvesting tools, such as the foothold trap, making their jobs more demanding and difficult. However, I am surely impressed by the ingenious

Great! Hope to see that when you're done. Actually shooting pigeons would be a lot of fun......unless you're the pigeon.....Ha! -
i have snared plenty of mink by design , only ever had one stoat in a snare set for squirrels on a log over a stream, had a couple of weasels and a stoat in mole traps In the US, most states require that snares are made of multi stran wire which is why we use snare cable instead of single stran wire. Still it's of intrest to most of us how you do it over there. Pretty great indeed! Here we use 3/64 and 1/16 size cable on minks, squirrels, and animals of that size. A stoat over here is a weasel (or ermine in their winter coat in the northern states...all weasels do not turn white in win

victoria vixen replied to RatSnatcher's topic in Snaring, Trapping & Pest Control
it was the british who invented this type of trapping and we are masters at it and get dozens at a time , and over a 100 crows at a time in our cage traps , Well then, I stand corrected! That being said, I guess I wondered why this person did not choose to go that route? It seemed easier than the "sniper" gig and less trouble. -

Why don't you just trap the pigeons in a pigeon trap? I have trpped thousands of them on roof tops just like you have. Do people not know how to do this? It is very simple with the right bait and proper "repeating trap". You often get a dozen or more birds at one check and with food and water in the trap....well, they can last for days without removal unless you're required to remove each day. Much more humane than shooting and safer. The residents probably won't even know you're around!.........VV -
smoker vs ferret vs spade ???
victoria vixen replied to sambo123's topic in Earthdogs & Working Terriers
Spirit of Ammonia....will flat run even a fox out of a hole! May be hard to get where you're at...Also may be illegal, so you'd want to check that out first. But I can tell you that NOTHING andI do mean NOTHING will stay in a hole once it's poured in there. It also is very, very, dangerous substance in the wrong hands and can be lethal if swallowed. Please be advised! -
Good to 'ave ye' aboard !!!!

Snaring Codes Of Practice Outlined By DEFRA
victoria vixen replied to ChrisJones's topic in Snaring, Trapping & Pest Control
I snare and I am proud to say it. It is a lethal and humane way to harvest game or predators if done correctly. I have snared over 10,000 animals and have never harmed one hunting dog or pet cat. -
can hares be caged trapped?
victoria vixen replied to pilgrim1982's topic in Snaring, Trapping & Pest Control
I think it's really the salt they smell ( and want) but they do like the apples too. I always toss a few extra around. I have caught them on peaches too in peach groves. Over in the states they have an O'possum, probably not as nice as the New Zealand ones. I always wanted to get one of those tanned. -
All great points. Over here in the US, we mount a board on a "L" bracket and set the cage trap on it. A wire goes through it a is screwed into the tree to hold it in place as well as the bracket is attached to the tree with a cordless drill and wood screws. These are put on with a ladder so out of reach of the public. I use a Black Walnut or Hazelnut bait put in an old sardine or cat food tin and put it in the 8x8 15 wire cage trap. The bait being oily will shead a good bit of rain if "cocked at a 45 angle" , although I often put a cover over it when expecting a heavy rainfall. Well, just o

can hares be caged trapped?
victoria vixen replied to pilgrim1982's topic in Snaring, Trapping & Pest Control
Salted apples...How are they made????? ( hahaha ) I think you're funnin' me right? You take an apple and you salt it! Rabbits (and Hares) love salt....did you not know that? That is the reason why we catch so many rabbits in foot traps at a fox "set" when we use fox urine. It's the salt in the urine that attracts the rabbits. They don't fear it like one would think. Rabbit urine would work too I think if you had a domestic rabbit farm to collect some for you. On the alphalfa cubes ....they feed them to pet rabbits and guinea pigs over here and maybe horses. (Not sure on that last one). -
I would be more than happy to accommodate you mate! You'll need to send me your address as I don't have a digital camara and do not know how to post a picture on the web if I did. I have trapped and snared 7 states here in the US and in Manitba, Canada. I have snared 29 years since I was a teenager. I have caught coyotes, foxes,(red and greys) raccoons, bobcats, otter, beaver, mink, muskrat, skunks, squirrels and O'possums. O'Gorman? Not hardly....but thanks for the compliment. Actually we have guys over here that snare 800-1000 raccoons a season along with other fur bearers. I'm no where ne

can hares be caged trapped?
victoria vixen replied to pilgrim1982's topic in Snaring, Trapping & Pest Control
Here in the US, we trap rabbits and (jack rabbits) hares in cage traps all the time. By using a solid wooden box trap or a box that fastens to the (wire) cage trap, the caught hare settles down and feels comfortable when hidden. I have re-stocked many farms with rabbits using this method. For bait I have used salted apples and alphalfa cubes. They absolutely love them. I have also used feed corn at times. The trick is to bait them much like "chumming" for fish. By tossing some tidbits around, they will start to feed and want more! Just a few tricks I've used here in "the states." -
I would like to add something if I may. I live in the US and am not very up on UK or English laws. However I have snared over 10,000 animals in the US and Canada. I can tell you that foxes in general are really easy to snare. If you set the loop at the proper height and diameter, you will amost always miss a cat and catch a fox. Foxes do not need to be shot. I have killed thousands and never fired one shot. If given something to wrap up on (like a steel rod) they will most always "choke up". Other than that, a short rap on the snout will render most foxes unconscience. It is very easy to do if

Mink Snaring and Mink lure.
victoria vixen replied to victoria vixen's topic in Snaring, Trapping & Pest Control
DS, Thanks for your response. How do I contact this Woodga person? Does he have an e- mail address or web site? On BMI locks or anything to do with trapping or snaring in general...I can probably do you better than The Snare Shop or Schmits. They do have a large selection but I would say I could match or beat their prices on most things. My overhead is not as large as theirs so often I can cut you a better deal. You just have to tell me what you're looking for. On the BMI locks, I personally would rather have the "slim" lock for quickness and low visability. I have used it on fox, mink, coyot
