Wow this has opened my eyes! Roe Bucks lose there antlers in November and December depending of age, the shooting season gives that away as bucks finish end October and no one shoots bucks not antlered. Red, Fallow and Sika shed their antlers during April and May and the new growth is complete and cleaned by August/September. Roe, which breed earlier, shed their antlers in November/December and re-grow them over the winter and early spring such that they’re cleaned during April/May. Some customs I avoid like the plague -
So perhaps I phrased it wrong, as I said after, accidents happen, what i was meaning was deliberate attacks by deer, I have not seen it with roe, fallow or red. I am not saying it hasn't happened, because it must have.

So I think we would find a lot in common if we were to meet up. Nice old photo, long time since i was in Wales. I will not be back to the forest before August as I have too many other places to be. -

So What I find strange is that all of these anti slave protestors or whatever they are are either here or in the USA preaching where slavery has finished. Why don't they go the UAE and preach there where Blacks are still enslaved on a regular basis?

So I started hunting etc in 1954 give or take, I have practiced most forms of field sport ever since and apart from a short period of madness[when I did an engineering apprenticeship]I have not stopped. I have nearly always kept myself private and out of the limelight and I am glad I did so, some of my dealings with other folk didnt end well. I spent a huge amount of my time on lurchers and sight hounds, either making a living from foxes or rabbits and catching everything else for sport and table. I even went to live in the middle east to run -

Yes and I still have, its as strong as its ever been, I have just channelled it elsewhere. -
So I have been looking at post and its made me think. There are a lot on here that have run all sorts etc. But how many of you have run Lurchers etc in other countries and where? When I still ran dogs- I dont now. I ran them in all four corners of UK, France, Italy, Turkey, Russia, Poland. Ukraine!!! Middle east, South and north Africa, USA. And great fun it was too.

Accidents happen! I broke spinal bones with a red deer accident, I had to have knee surgery after a kick from a stag.

I coursed a lot of deer over the year, all breeds both day and night. I have seen sika stags throw dogs a long way using antlers, Ive seen sika hinds smash dogs by butting them same with munties. I have never seen a dog hurt by a roe, fallow or red. Most deer were caught on the lamp because they run slower on the lamp, bounce of things etc etc. During the day you see the real speed of them, but they are no match for any lurcher in speed. But deer dogs need to have the brains to time their pull and get it right, too many used to grab what they got to first, and thats hopeless.

So, what you say is very true, especially the last statement To my mind, anyone who spent 2 weeks of every month 8 months of the year catching rabbits or foxes fora living as I did, things were very different to how people imagine. Secondly anyone who had dealing with b plumber and the likes was highly likely to be scarred by the experience. Sadly these people had a nasty web that spread far and wide and they reached out and stung people for no reason in particular, jealousy was often the cause but no
