  1. Is it obedient to your liking? Is it a big dog still looking like a puppy? Is it a small whippet type that is up and ready? ... L
  2. I've seen a lot of dogs do it, cow and horse and cat shit. Mine both did it when but grew out of it, they can both pass a good pile of horse shit without taking a mouthful...that said they sometimes still do it...and a good piece of cat shit is something they can't refuse... Eating horse shit...well ok some good predigested grass...but cat shit is pretty nasty and stinky L
  3. Congrats! He knows what to do now! L
  4. I've been browsing some anti sites and I wonder...is there anti-anti activity? Cause if they follow hunts to monitor them shouldn't there be people monitoring the anti-hunters and giving there positions to the hunt/followers. Thats sounds like a fun day out with camouflage, field glasses and GPS observing a bunch of antis. If there are enough of both it gets interesting who is who ... L
  5. A small dog would accelate quicker but it depends on how the dog uses his brain...if the quarter falls that he is too slow on the turns he might start to freeze and stalk. Mine is big too but tends to stalk outside of the light...tail backwards and feet for feet closing in and freezing when the rabbit moves. It looks supercool but it is not a fast process...try the dog on "easy" ones and see what he does... L
  6. Disadvantage is that lamp dogs with a good routine of coming back immediately might learn to hunt up. L
  7. Road walking for me is combining the nice with the necessary...I have no car and my shops are 5 kms away so if I want groceries I take the dogs next to the bike...and we make a stopover at places where they can walk free. And as the bees season is beginning they come along to the bees next to the bike, a 12 km trip including a 2 km off leash part next to the canal. They don't know any beter than that they are next to the bike for 1.5 hours almost every day. L
  8. No sh*t. Start reading posts at this forum to get an idea. Try the search engine. L
  9. Brian, that is a nice dog! so long at 4 months! Tail nice and ratty...are there any pictures of the litter brothers/sisters? L
  10. I am not very fond of terrier or collie blood...one looses "nobility"...a big whippet or whippet longdog would be my pick, whippets are pretty smart...but I might be prejudiced...I rarely see a lurcher like they have in the UK... L
  11. The dog or the hare? The dog is about 24 kilos...the hare about 5 I'd say.
  12. Yep Pat, het was een goede run. M'n reu weet nou wat ie moet doen en ook dat ie het kan Hoe is het met die van jou? L
  13. If I have to take a rough guess the hare has a counterstream vein system in its head and the breathing of the hare directly cools the blood. L
  14. Looks nice and educational. What are we looking at? I see a head with cavities and a brain/spinal chord and a counterstream artery/vein I think? L
  15. thanks! For all those working galgo lovers...these people have a nice site... http://shotonsite.blogspot.com/ L
  16. Yeah Whin I know of the galgos doing good in OFC, up at the top with the sal-grey composites. There is some dutch Zarandillo blood out there doing the bizz in the hot and spikey plains... One of my french friends will cook the hare L
  17. Yes...he found easy rabbits before for his self confidence, but I waited till he was 2 years old for searching hares. He did it by the book, including a retrieve from far away and across a 4 meter wide canal, all in absolute silence...I was soooo proud...
  18. The galgo is turning 2 years old this month. Mature enough for some serious missions. L
  19. I have 2 dogs that eat the same diet...one of them farts and the other one does not...maybe the gut flora is different? We have a saying "hondenscheet, geluk bij de vleet"...translated it is something like "dog fart, a lot of luck on your chart"... L
  20. Some time ago there were some rescue pups here in NL...in a spanish shelter they had a hot barsoi bitch and a greyhound took his chance...the people of this website have one, a big white bitch called Saar...pretty greyhoundy with something eastern to it... http://merceyclan.blog.com/2007/6/ and the Valeska people work their barsois... L
  21. Oi where is the link or pic?
  22. Maybe interesting for bigger game but I can think of handier crosses for "normal" game. The ridgebacks I see around here would not really add anything for lamping or coursing. Big heavy dogs not selected for prey drive. But if you're into them they are nice. L
