  1. I will see in time. God willing my 11 year old bitch will be around for a couple of years still, when she dies I will look around to replace her. It could be saluki, it could be whippet, I could drive to Russia for chortjaj or go to the UK...as long as it is very fast, catches game and is a pleasure in the house I do not care really...
  2. I suppose the "mignas" people are saudi or from the Emirates...if I would go for a saluki I would go for the type they use in the open desert...I need greyhound like speed and the ability to cool down, not a hairy endurance dog for the mountains. But I have open field speed enough with my galgo...the next dog will be whippet like...
  3. For the record...I saw no objections and diluted the 40 mg/ml material with water and a bit of store flea shampoo to 2 portions of 1 mg/ml and took dog for dog under the shower. I found no difference in reponse to the home made shampoo: the same dissapointment of dogs forced under the shower and the same hyacinth like smell of permethrin. No change in behaviour or signs of intoxication or something. They seem pretty flea free now, found nothing with the comb. It will be standard procedure I think...I reduced my de-fleaing costs with more than 50 % L
  4. It would be a cross that I might want to own when my old bitch dies. I can see both breeds adding nice elements to the mix. Or 3/4 whip saluki...small and explosive hound with a little desert style to it.
  5. L.S., I wash my dogs with a commercial flea shampoo that contains permethrin and piperonyl butoxide (1 mg/ml) as enhancer. It is expensive, one bottle costs 16 euros and lasts 3 to 4 washings. Some weeks ago I bought insecticide stock solution to mix my own spray for plants. I saw it had exactly the same actives in it but in a higher concentration (40 mg/ml). I can't think of anything stopping me to dilute the insecticide with a mild shampoo/normal dog shampoo to 1 mg/ml. Can you? atb L
  6. L.S. I saw it on terrierman today. It almost can't be that this was not posted before but http://www.caireland.org/News/press_releas..._Hare_Coursing/ This is from Februari. Does anyone know what happened/is happening? L
  7. Guys let's not ruin one of the best topics. L
  8. If both cat and dog are used to each other when young there is no problem at all. A strange running cat outside might be difficult. I have a command "cat" that basically means don't run and grab it...I see the prey drive easing up when I use it. It happens that we encounter a cat in the field but if it does not run and stands ground the dogs loose interest in seconds. They know the difference
  9. I have it too, it's a sweet movie. Only the dvd comes without subtitles and it is hard to understand the Irish at times...
  10. Very nice, thanks for sharing! L
  11. приветствие Hunter_from_Russia! Nice to hear about hunting and russian greyhounds! Russia and the Ukrain are different from the UK...the space and the hares are a lot bigger. Russian and English greyhounds look alike but they are not the same. This site has some good pics and also English translations: http://www.chortaj.proc.ru/ cheers, L
  12. Thanks His Wife...ahaa the congresswoman is from Guam...the brown treesnake case...that explains it...but the proposed law is way too general and over her head...
  13. So it is not an April01 fool joke His Wife?
  14. That was also what I was thinking after a while. It must be. But when it is I think it is the most stupid April fool joke I have seen in ages. Normally this source is very serious considering the alerts they give. But maybe I just lack a sense of humour. L
  15. I take the liberty to put it on this forum too...the more who know the better... ON April 23rd 2009 The Natural Resources Committee of the U.S. Congress will hold a hearing on H.R. 669, a resolution that will in effect ban importation, interstate transport and the private ownership of most birds, mammals, reptiles, and fish as pets. Should HR669 be adopted as written only the following nonnative animals would be allowed: any cat (Felis catus) cattle or oxen (Bos taurus) chicken (Gallus gallus domesticus) dog (Canis lupus familiaris) donkey or ass (Equus asinus) domesticated member
  16. I don't know about the situation in the UK but most borzoi here (NL) I would not want to own. You could experiment with a UK bred borzoi but first test if it has prey drive. Most of the borzoi in the western world are crap I think, they have been bred for show not for speed or instinct and are too big for their own good. There are some breeders in the US or Canada who breed more for work I would check them out. A couple of years ago there was an accidental mating here of a borzoi and a greyhound...they at least looked like useful dogs but I have not heard about them since. If you can get
  17. It does not matter so much just what you come across. I would always go for something of medium size so with whippet types I would tend to pick a dog and with bigger a bitch. I own a dog and a bitch and both are a pain in the *ss in their own way. The bitch is not spayed so her behaviour changes during the year, say she is unusable for at least 2 months due to not listening well followed by the real heat and sometimes a false pregnancy. She is very soft, when I am just a little bit harsh she already behaves like I am molesting her. The dog is stable, his behaviour does not change
  18. Yeah try to be the best advocate of our sport as possible. Never loose your temper and try to show the beauty and responibleness of hunting with dogs...give rabbit meat away for cooking and take youngsters out...write a good letter to the newspaper and be on their tail. Most of the readers eat meat that has seen a lot more suffering. L
  19. well... http://www.meteox.co.uk/h.aspx?r=&jaar...;soort=loop1uur Gr L
  20. Long piece of text, but I can see the information being handy in the rest of the world too, in these times we live in. http://eaglerock814.**"£$%^&*(107.com/index...y&thread=15 L
  21. Eh what good qualities does the spaniel add to the whippet? L
  22. The older he gets the more hair
  23. Thanks guys. Normally if I have to kill a bird or rabbit I push a broad blade through the skull in the lenght. But roe is too big for that and I kind of don't want to poke around in the skull. To cut the throat seems more direct and somehow better than strangeling.
