  1. I'm with Tattey. Both lamps are clumsy and expensive to ditch when you are running from people who want to do bad things to you. In my circumstances where I only want a few rabbits I modify a cheap lamp with integrated battery. It gives a lot of light but only for 20 min and buy new ones everyonce in a while. L
  2. I see Chart Polski occasionally. Medium size boney greyhound with a long tail. Can't distinguish them from russian chorts or galgo or cold climate smooth saluki. Basically the same thing. The only factor that separates breeds like this is modern man who wants to split types into breeds. They are all "hounds" and the good ones catch game and stay in one piece doing so. L
  3. I have one for 12 years now. Pro: 1) very sweet/calm 2) very fast and tough and heath resistant 3) good looking Con: 1) opens up by nature 2) headstrong in the sense that it switches on when scent is in the nose and it stops only when cornered 3) not very clever 4) use of nose is more important than seeing For a kind of high speed beagle work, flushing for guns etc in difficult terrain it is good. For lamping and silent work that requiers good natural recall I would never ever buy one again. L
  4. I don't think they are in the UK. And why should they be? The UK has decent longdogs of its own that look like "cold salukis" and that do the same job. Closest you might find one is Germany or the Czech republic. Importing would be a hassle. http://www.chortaj.proc.ru/index.htm atb Lennard
  5. Sigh. They just don't get it huh. Esspecially in the UK, fox hunting is conservation of foxes and the landscape. Hunting generates money and peoples effort to keep a huntable population in a landscape they like. If you just want to get rid of them as pests than you also get rid of their dens and hiding places. And actually hunting with dogs is pretty humane, foxes are either dead or gone and not wounded. But I don't have to write that on the hunting life. It just pisses me off even if I don't live or hunt in the UK. L
  6. If she was good before she will be ok later. Phantom pregnancies suck, when my bitch is in heath I know it will last 4 months before she is her normal self again. Basically my bitch is unusable 5 months per year. Spaying is an option but she is getting old. L
  7. DogFaceKillah, What makes you say so? I come onto golf courses and they are pretty much perfect for dog work. Little wire, flat, smooth.. ?
  8. Well maybe it was good, but you post the info/location on the internet so big chance that a lot of people will check it out and at least disturb the game present
  9. For running dog work Canada might be dissapointing from a legal point of view. The people who like coursing take long trips to the US where coursing is more normal and a small game licence goes a long way. Using only dogs to catch game is illegal throughout Canada. There are some legal hound work for raccoon opportunities though. And there is a lot of space with jackrabbit and european hare. There is a lot of space anyway. If you are looking for a staghound then a trip to the US is your best bet. Staghounds are pretty common in the big plain midwest states, if you look around on the
  10. Old dogs are very usefull in teaching young dogs how to behave and keep them company. Both old and young dogs cannot be stressed too much exercise wise so are a good combination. Ideal would be 3 dogs, 1 old, 1 young and 1 working. L
  11. Hunting, with and without dogs, is the same as sex. There isn't really much to write about. That said, where I live you can find dozens of magazines on sex/naked women but we have no magazines on hunting. You brits are lucky. L
  12. When a small dog has the speed and is game surely you can take it lamping. Small dogs are good for rabbits. The only drawback is that it does not see very much, it's point of view being close to the ground. You have to get your head down too and learn how much of what you are seeing the dog sees and slip accordingly. Best practice would be on golf courses or other smooth terrain. Have fun! L
  13. It is relatively easy to bring a dog from the UK to Holland. You need the vaccinations (rabies) and a really recent health certificate made by a qualified veterinarian. Some airliners take dogs less than 5 kgs in the cabin and the cheap ferry will for sure take them. No relatives in Spain...but Spain is close and a good source for well bred long dogs. They are used a lot for hunting, there are a lot of them and life/selection is hard there. The rescues import pups at times or pregnant bitches and these can be real value for money when they have no flaws or diseases. My spanish is pretty g
  14. You have to turn the flag 90 degrees Ik kijk soms ook wel es maar op het internet staan maar weinig honden. Soms zitten er spannende pups bij een opvang of in een asiel maar er is niks nu. Wanneer wordt jouw teef weer loops? Maybe you have to go to the UK?
  15. Black and white one is mainly podenco.
  16. I kind of worship him reload. Pure beauty and very noble. Calm and fast and game.
  19. France: lurchers and running dogs are illegal to hunt with and almost non-existent. For shooting and scent hounds it is a good place.
  20. Nah dogs mostly get things we do not eat from game. It is very good for the table as it is not very bruised. This one is big but there is bigger. Galgo...spanish greyhound. 3 years old now. I have a good one.
  21. The autumn is coming but this one was caught by accident. I guess I have to eat it, I don't really feel like it though...
  22. I continue untill I have one and then I go home.
  23. Could be exertional rhabdomyelisis...urine looks like blood but it is not, it is red due to the breakdown products of muscles due to too much lactic acid. I had it once in a dog and it can be really nasty, when mild the dog will recover but when severe there might be damage to the kidneys and the dog will turn weak/sore and it might die. Basically it was my own fault, as it happens to dogs that are unfit and then run too much/hard. The enzymes can't cope and the muscles are not used to hardcore work, not enough veins were grown for extreme metabolism. If it is ER...then give the dog
