  1. Someone offered a whippet dog, 1 year old and castrated...don't know...the castrated dogs I know are kind of fatty and puppy like in behaviour (castrated before 1 year old). I need a speedy whippet kind of dog. Advantage would be that I can keep a castrated dog with my unspayed bitch no problems. L
  2. Does castration of dogs make them less fit to work or doesn't it matter...does anyone have any experience? regards, Lennard
  3. If I need to transport a dog, could I take the train in the UK? Anyone any idea what it costs? L
  4. SINGLE BLACK FEMALE - seeks male companionship, ethnicity unimportant. I'm a very good-looking girl who LOVES to play. I love long walks in the woods, riding in your pickup truck, hunting, camping and fishing trips, cozy winter nights lying by the fire. Candlelight dinners will have me eating out of your hand. Rub me the right way and watch me respond. I'll be at the front door when you get home from work, wearing only what nature gave me. Kiss me and I'm yours. Call (404) 875-6420 and ask for Daisy. > > Over 15,000 men found themselves talking to the Atlanta Humane Society ab
  5. Nice forums Thunderbelly Squirrel hunting...kind of like coon hunting where your dog tracks a squirrel and makes it tree and then you shoot it. 67000 posts, it must be a big thing! L
  6. BBC 2 is BBC 2 all over Europe I think. Should be on, reliable dutch tv guide. Description is: In Februari of this year hare coursing was made illegal and with this came an end to The Waterloo Cup, a match that was introduced by William Lynn in 1836.
  7. FYI, Coming fryday night on BBC 2 the documentary The last Waterloo Cup comes on at 22:00 central european time, I guess that is 21:00 for those in the UK. L
  8. Thunderbelly What is a rabbit for you? a cottontail or a snowshoe hare? Do they go to ground when chased? IMHO, if you want a catch dog for rabbits, to work with a beagle, I'd go for the pure whippet or whippet-grey cross, they have the speed and good small size for woody terrain, they don't open up and can be relatively obedient if you get a good strain and train them well. Kind of a replacement for a gun and generally easy dogs to keep. Slip, catch/loose prey and come back. Maybe the coat is a bit thin if they have to wait long periods in extreme cold. Ibizan is very hound like
  9. Do you want to catch them? Bring them for the gun? Do care about obedience? How is your terrain, thick woods, fields? Personally, for catching I'd go for pure whippet, ibizan, small grey...for the gun basset or beagle, harrier, dachshund, leggy terriers...for obedience I would forget these breeds and take a catching collie lurcher. In very wooded terrain dogs that give tongue are way easier to work with. Ibizan is disobedient but real nice and fast for catching and bringing for the gun, gives tongue as well but cause its so fast the hare might go further, make bigger circles giving
  10. well...I am "against" PETA as I am "against" anyone who wants to prohibit hunting with dogs (or other forms of hunting for that matter) but despise factory farming and unnecessery animal testing...who are behind the consumerfreedom folk? I didn't read the fine print...an enemy of an enemy is not necesseraly a friend  L
  11. Tarmac, ...did the dog stand over the hare exhausted? Run circles with you behind it, yelling stop? Was it a retrieve? L
  12. Light chicken broth (has all the salts) with 5 gm glucose per 200 ml. L
  13. Eh Jolanda, FB? Fijnaart in Brabant? If PRT are terriers and you want to hunt, we have a group called "fretten en frettteren" (ferrets and ferreting) and some of them do rat hunting with terriers, very silent message group almost no posts but maybe worth subscribing... L
  14. Welcome Jolanda! Finally a countrywoman form the place with grazy meadows boasting with hares ! Whereabout in NL? I'm in Voorschoten... L
  15. It might be so that dogs see better in the dark than we, they don't have this reflection layer in their eyes for nothing. Would it be possible to run dogs in little light when you have light enhancer or infrared equipment? Do they need the beam as much as we do? (beam being handy for obstacles or confusing the game). L
  16. Had scabies some years ago ( ) and got a 1% solution of Lindane to treat it...all my former housemates got bottles as well and had to smear preventively (hahaha)...so afterwards I collected their bottles (for their safety as well, one thought he could rub it on every itch he had, it's a bit too toxic for that) leading to a good supply of this classic pesticide. I used it on my dog twice to kill of any mites, ticks and fleas and it did perfectly without any side effects on the dog. Benzyl benzoate is for some reason never given here for scabies. Lindane is illegal in agriculture (too toxic
  17. Does anyone know where to find a CA bank account number so I can just use bic or iban transactions instead of a creditcard... L
  18. Occasionally I give her a run at a hare, she is very keen and gives a nice course. Not fast enough to catch them directly. Only, when she has lost the hare her nose goes down and she will hunt the hare up and run it down, taking lots of time... I was jealous at the saluki coursing with dogs coming back within minutes! Next dog will be pure saluki or sal/grey...more speed not too much nose please...but as an insect/mice/rabbit dog and calm sweet pet she is the best! L
  19. Mainly podenco (spanish pharao hound) with galgo mixed in for speed...
  20. ...what cross is the long haired dog? L
  21. All of the breed have them big ears ears, for cooling and catching. She catches mosquitoes in the dark and lots of mice in the shrubs. Hangover was sweated out...
  22. Were-fox...like the japanese folklore...women that change into foxes and back...
  23. test of last weekend picture...hot day...no game...long distance walk with hangover, leather collar/leash was unfindable in bedroom so I grabbed a strap which was actually nice and light. L
  24. Looks like one of the "lesser bumblebees" (Bombus ruderarius or B. lapidarius)... Lord knows what the English name is. L
