  1. Yeah black birch is spanish pharao hound version. Sweet but not very effective if you want a lot of rabbits....uses nose and gives loud. I've seen them work in Spain and they run in packs like beagles on terrain that is really rocky and overgrown. They alert the hunter and the pack with occasional howly barks. You could catch a lot more with a whippet and a lamp but the podencos are way less damage prone and have stamina beyond whippets or greys in the heath. check this out http://personal.telefonica.terra.es/web/po...a/pages/cat.htm
  2. He's pretty keen but hasn't seen any work yet apart from accidental chasing rabbits. I'm concentrating on obedience still. His time will come.
  3. its a bit above my knees, 64 cms...guess that is 26 inches or so...
  4. Your whippets look pretty decent. A good whippet can catch a hare when fit. Take time to let your dogs mature and then give them proper exercise. You have two and dogs are bigger than bitches which are good advantages. Good luck! L.
  5. For those who want to relive the early nineties "Ozric Feeling"...get the album "Nothing Lasts" by Sphongle. You won't be dissapointed. L.
  6. There are other factors too. Small dog uses less space and such. Some breeds or crosses are easier/nicer to live with than others. Most of the time you won't be hunting it. L.
  7. This year its Dec26 but next year I don't know...they give more details in "noticias" on their website. Contact them at: www.galgoes.com L.
  8. Nice longdog Witton! What's with the shoes?
  9. Joeb, No use of running dogs in France and Germany today, in both countries it has been outlawed before the nineteenhundreds. Some illegal lamping there is but nothing like the lamping "culture" in the UK. Shooting is big in both countries, large areas are managed and have high numbers of gamekeepers or other greensleeves monitoring so it is not very inviting in general. France does have a lot of packs for hound work. L.
  10. Global warming or just variation...Netherlands had the warmest autumn since measurements began...broken a lot of records...average of 3.4 degr. C. above long year average. Temperature today is 13 degr. C. and looks like it will continue. L.
  11. Keep it inside. You can better see and anticipate on her behaviour and she on yours and that of the family. Pups kind of suck but the biting and peeing will stop if you put pretty constant work in it. But I guess it is a matter of taste and possibility too...I keep mine as close to me as possible but my dogs are calm and sweet kind of and I don't have a kid or woman in the house to reckon with. My older bitch responds to a whisper or a gesture and the pup is picking that up with time. I do have to put up with the pup damaging things but the house is pup proof after 6 months. L.
  12. Nice dogs Rocks...do they take jackrabbits as well? L.
  13. It is possible...if you use the cursor keys instead of the mouse and use the shadow of the bird...go up and wait till the rabbit is almost in the shadow and then dive...

  15. Agree with Cooper there...you have to tolerate occasional licking, good for pup/baby bonding (and both their immune systems?) but constant exposure isn't nice/healthy (raw chicken, tripe, horse/goose shit in dogs diet) so I would try try keeping them kind of away from eachother. Pain in the arse as they both use the floor. L.
  16. Hi all, I am looking for a recent post on/with "the working terrier standard" ...kind of funny but very true description of a standard...I can't recall the author or topics name...anyone remembers?
  17. Yep that was a big thing in the media here... The owner will be legally challenged as there was an early warning for the storm. Also, there is some public anger now as it turned out the horses were kept for grazing/meat and that though rescued, they will still be slaughtered I think (I have no TV so maybe one of the other Dutch here knows for sure). People put up a fund you can donate to to give the horses a nice life. L.
  18. Well...some sectors of business here had/have the same fear that they would be outcompeted by China...so they organised a delegation of managers to visit China and see for themselves. They came back kind of relieved as they found that the Chinese are not very efficient, although workers tend to make long days the productivity is actually pretty low as is the quality of the products and follow-up service. Also they found that some Chinese core-businesses like fabric/consumer goods have the same fears and problems of production being cheaper and thus moving to Vietnam or other places. We ha
