  1. L.S., Does anyone from CA know the status of AB 1634? This is a proposed law that states that every dog or cat older than 6 months MUST be neutered. There was a lot to do with it..but what is the status now? regards, L.
  2. There is good and bad in both. Unspayed bitches that are affected by heath and false pregnancy are pretty useless for 3 months or more per year, dogs are much more consistent for performance. I tend to aim for a medium size...in small breeds/crosses I would take a dog as they tend to be bigger...in large breeds/crosses I would take a bitch as they tend to be smaller...but I wouldn't say no to a small game whippet bitch either... L.
  3. If you surf around on dog related websites...feeding dogs is always one of the bigger debates with strong believers...luckely dogs are flexible... L.
  4. just how I like them...the feet too... L
  5. say 67 cm (28/29 inch?) and 25 kilo's. Growing out nice and ratty.
  6. Sounds normal to me...mine does that every time...starts marking and eating bad...no worries except that she might get pregnant... L.
  7. There are rough ones but they are more rare and they get more rare as people cross smooths and greyhounds in. His mom was a lot rougher than he is. L.
  8. Yeah I've been saying prayers at night the last year, in front of my bed on my bare knees...querido Signor, por favor enlarga las oregas de mi galgo...but it didn't help much. It is too cold here, the ears stay small. L.
  9. A continuing joy to own...and nothing with fur or feather is safe these days...
  10. Whin...were you at the desert hare classic? if you saw rough haired black and white bitches there's a big chance they were bred by the Zarandillo kennel. They are nice for sure. I got a rough haired one and I love it. Its is real fast and shows endurance but it didn't see a hare yet...17 months old now...I wouldn't say no to a galgo-whippet longdog L.
  11. "Galgo" means sighthound in Spanish. The hound of Spain is called "galgo espagnol" and is a bit different from the greyhound in the UK. It is smaller with a longer, narrower head and a longer tail and kind of longer and flatter feet. When you think the head of a greyhound looks "snaky", the head of pure galgo will make the greyhound head look like a normal dog's one. It is really high in the hips and doesn't muscle up so much as the greyhounds I have seen. Just as with saluki there are a lot of people that cross greyhound in to speed it up. Once again, check out their nation club and
  12. I can't give percentages but I do think there is a difference between UK and US...in the US most organised coursing involves pure breds, they have a lot of breed stakes and maybe breed clubs are involved. In the UK there was ( ) a lot more organised coursing with lurchers next to the breed meets... L.
  13. Another for soulseek or whatever...the album "stacked up" by Senser...remember...they used to tour with the Ozric...
  14. Well...how about the population of hares in Ireland? Is it really that low and so, how come? L.
  15. Get the gentleman's name right. Time ago he had chubasco bred dogs. If you want such a saluki type you have the biggest chance in the US and maybe Belgium or France. It will be a long waiting list and they will only sell to suitable saluki people. L.
  16. Never heard of it. Anyone seen one in the UK? L.
  17. Something in me says "no"...but that is cause I keep my dogs as pets and they are quite integrated in my social life, they spend more time traveling and being with humans then they do running hares. My dogs have to be calm and steady with trains, cats, kids, crowds and such. I could not deal with a nervous high strung disobedient animal. But if I kept them solemly for hunting...I'd choose the best worker and hope for the best...the pups might have their moms temper anyway... L.
  18. No snoopdog...I have no time and need for heavy psychedelics these days...but I do like to drive around with a heavy up tempo dub beat with hypnotic alpha bleeps and flute mixed in... L.
  19. Sorry guys... The Ozric Tentacles are a UK group that mix exstatic rave sounds with fusion and space rock. I was/am a big fan of those guys and when they "climax" they generate this "adrenalin-goosebumps all over" feeling I've seen them live 5 times between 1992 and 2000 and have 10 of their albums...I always look for music that generates the same vibe....sphongle does that and Huopatossu REALLY does that... There must be people on here that know what I mean... L.
  20. Another discovery for those who like the Ozric/Eat Static feel Find material by Huopatossu Mononen in soulseek or wherever...esspecially the song Kikapelaus (a spugedelic return...) Again, you won't be dissapointed...
  21. Soup I do not know...but here it is pretty common to make an omelette...pick a good half kilo of young tops, put in boiling water for a couple of minutes and drain in a collander. Put the mass into the flour/egg mixture and bake. Probably you can always substitute spinach with nettles in spinach recepies.... L.
  22. Some will be really useful and others useless. Disadvantage would be that they are not used to field conditions and prolly not much obedience/socialisation has been done with them but they are free and if you're up to putting work in, go for it. Others on here who have ex racers enjoy them. L.
  23. Chart means "sighthound" in Polish. Native greyhound type of dog like Stabs wrote. Coursing is illegal in Poland. More to the East, where people are free to do as they please with their hounds, is the related chortjaj... check this out: http://www.chortaj.proc.ru/index.htm cheers, L.
  24. But at least they are in their own enviroment and know the lay of the land and have a chance to escape, hopefully they are also dispatched quickly and not tethered for another run... That would be my preference too. L.
  25. I've seen the video before. Different place and time. Society and practices in Bellarusse and the Ukrain are a LOT harsher than in the UK. The rural areas in these places are far beyond the reach of PETA or other western animal rights organisations. It is like the England of the 19 century in a way. Though training hounds with bagged or tethered quarry like this is outside my preferences, it is legal what they do. Catching foxes or other bigger predators with dogs as favoured by many in the UK is not my cup of tea either. But I'm not shouting it should be illegal (hell no!). In a
