  1. Could be honeybees. Flying on a mild day. L
  2. I am with Bowers1986. The cheap ass lamps do work but they are uncomfortable and modifying them with a bigger battery in a backpack works nicely. Upgrade to 12 volt is good, there are more batteries for 12 V. Advantage of the cheap ass lamps is that you can drop them if need be and you will not loose 100 quid or so. L
  3. thanks! The acid method seems do-able to me...I'll report when I have any results L
  4. Dear all, I've been surfing around for a good method to cure rabbit pelts...but I am kind of confused what is the best (easiest, nicest result) method. What do you do; borax, salt, spirits? Something else? Can you recommend a method or do you know a good link to a how-to-do-it website? Thanks! L
  5. Hmmm I don't know...depends on your standards...mine won't retrieve to hand but will stop a few meters from me and I can take it...but it does so without a command...maybe I could get it to bring it to hand but then I would need to make additional noise... Our normal routine is pretty "volatile"...I move within a minute or so...I bike around with dog leashed and shine on interesting spots...when there is something there, the dog is released and runs it in the beam...when the quarry is lost or caught I turn off the beam and give a signal and I expect the dog to stand by me pretty quick to b
  6. Hey...welcome on here... If I were you I would stick to normal obedience and fetching tennis balls or so with the lamp, I would not show the pup any game on purpose before it has a reasonable recall routine. If it does not have a routine of coming back it might start hunting up for itself and that is really annoying if you want a dog that runs and comes back when it has lost sight of the rabbit. I would wait for her body to harden too and get experience with wire and bramble and everything just playing. As for lamps...here we do not have these nice lamps like you guys have in the U
  7. I put them in the freezer, it is only minus 3 here...I put my backpack in the laundry machine as that was contaminated and I already saw a flea in the bathroom. Sh*t. L
  8. Beautiful night, with a lot of cold, stars and quite some rabbits, the grassy greens of a camping site in the midst of the quiet sea dunes...a cheap ass lamp and my pup clearing shoulder high gates and wire without a sound... But...the bounty is ridden with fleas. I seldom saw so many fleas moving along the ears and the white fur! dozens. Can I just put them in the freezer to kill the bugs or will that affect skinning later? L

    crabs

If your friend REALLY has crab lice then they are worth money...here there is research being done on crab lice by a museum of natural history and they have trouble getting specimens...I think they pay 30 euros or so for decent real specimens... Otherwise I think the head lice preparations will also kill crab lice... Oh checked it out...these people won't pay...but your friend can send them...just put them in 70% alcohol and state roughly where they come from... http://www.ad.nl/binnenland/article1745293.ece L
  10. It seems a different dog to me too...although I am not sure...the last pics could be pup pic of the first...with markings above the eyes and dark ears and streaks along the muzzle all there...the white pattern on the brest is quite different to me.... Don't know... L

Gr, L

  15. Oi Pegleg, What is a big game hound? A running dog or a baying hound? Any pics? L
  16. Yeah I think I was looking for that...the cat was nuzzling me...thanks chid... L
  17. L.S., Is there an English word or expression for what cats do? I mean the rubbing with their heads against people or objects. L.
  18. Keeping a mole makes a nice biology project for a school...couple of nest boxes connected by tubing and a bigger container to dig in, or a set up with earth between 2 glass plates...you can have the pupils catch worms all day but you can also feed it on bred/bought locusts and such...but it will not survive very long... shrews are also kind of interesting and one needs less space and set up, fish tank with leafs and small nest box of sorts... L
  19. With a bit of luck someone will show you the ropes but when there is nobody you have to do it like me...just try it out, play around with tennis balls and the lamp and try to find the ideal place with easy rabbits and keep on practising...read some posts with tips from here... L
  20. Yeah the poem comes from "the book of St Alban"... People tend to leave the last line out: "when he comes to his seventh year, give him to the tanner" L
  21. Hmmm...Vladimir, I think coyote is covered by a normal VA Hunting License and there is no specific law against catching it with dogs...so if you can find the dogs...there is normal fox hunting going on for sure... L
  22. That strapping stuff was a good idea! thanks tote! L
  23. Yeah...galgos have damn long tails with a typical hook in the tail...when you start crossing them the hook is straightned prolly...I wouldn't say no to a galgo-whippet or galgo-saluki either... L
  24. Maybe there is poaching in Poland with more or less "native" hounds...but if you want to see similar hounds chortjaj/saluki type working, the Ukriane and Moldavia would be better choices... L
