Fineren Body Grip Trap
swarmcatcher replied to shropshire mole's topic in Snaring, Trapping & Pest Control
Its not particularly customer friendly though - there's mummy sitting at the breakfast table having a nice cuppa, laughing at the squirrel playing about running over the box then looking up again and seeing it hanging there having spasms. The bird box style is somewhat more customer friendly don't you think? I can see an open bottom box working in spaces not visited by anyone, but using them somewhere the public can see them is definitely a No NO Any other box styles out there for bodygrips that don't leave the squirrel hanging there in full view? Of course in Wales we need to use a 110 n -

Mole Trapping Prices
swarmcatcher replied to shropshire mole's topic in Snaring, Trapping & Pest Control
Obviously a no mole no fee guarantee is easy to give if you are working fields and the like - stupidly I was thinking about peoples lawns. I only know of a couple of people that depend upon mole catching and rabbits for a living, and they seem to spend a lot of time doing other additional work. I think it would be very difficult to make much of a living in most parts of the UK if that was ones sole source of income. No mole no fee might well work if you are on the way to the pub in the local village. I'm happy for you if you are carrying out work based on a no mole no fee basis, and your c -

Tweaking Traps (Mole Traps)
swarmcatcher replied to Giro's topic in Snaring, Trapping & Pest Control
Nice summary for trap setting - definitely worth a blue badge. With duffus you should be checking that the trap is not catching too far down the body otherwise the mole will take longer to die. You should also be making sure that the spring is off sufficient power to kill quickly - one very good reason to buy from a reputable UK manufacturer and not cheep chinese imports I've never used the putangs but if they are similar to no-moles then no adjustments needed, same for traplines which are great in 3 way tunnels. Don't really go much on scissor traps - doubtful about the springs and who wan -
Seeing the full-house earlier in the thread made me think about a problem a friend has in Cornwall. I've never tried using a larsen trap or a ladder trap but may well look at making some up if you all think it would be beneficial.. They have a real problem with pest birds during lambing - most of which is done in the field. Can't remember which bird it was now, one of the corvids anyway, but they basically pick away at everything live or dead, adult and just born - truly cruel. I just presumed that these birds fly around the countryside in a random manor but thinking about it they are boun

nice trapping - probably mites - mange, not sure how transferable rabbit mange is to dogs and the like but best disposed off carefully.

Mole Trapping Prices
swarmcatcher replied to shropshire mole's topic in Snaring, Trapping & Pest Control
Some interesting points of view, we have been doing moles for a longtime and as mentioned by someone its very easy to be a busy fool. Not sure I understand the 3 visit rule - why return a 3rd time if job is complete on 2nd visit. Definitely don't understand the no mole no fee - has anyone tried moling in made up ground as found in a lot of properties these days, at what point do you decide to give in, not only that some moles are definitely more wary than other moles, we had a job on a couple of months ago where we took out 13 moles over 3 visits in one property and it took multiple repeat -

Trap Clips / Killer Clips
swarmcatcher replied to 3175darren's topic in Snaring, Trapping & Pest Control
I saw someone using a bit of stiff but flexible tubing (about 25mm diameter) screwed to a bit of wood - seemed to do a good job . Depends how you want to set it though I guess. -
Whose building them for that price? Was going to put one together for my lad but at that price maybe I should just pick it up

Yep I'm sure your right on that, I was thinking that I would need to teach how to quarter and recall so that he was under proper control, I've heard they can be difficult to manage when untrained for so long Maybe i'm worrying about nothing, still if there are some good sites or books to read I'd love to hear about them Had read on here " Make sure you train a command to get the terrier to go in to cover and teach it to go where you point, too, so that if you see a bolting rabbit going into cover and the terrier misses it you can direct it, quick (I say 'go see' and point and in she goe

This Friday I'm going to be taking charge of an 18 month old springer that apparently needs working - current owners can't manage him I want to train him to flush rabbit and bird for the hawk, does anyone know of any good training sites that can walk me thru the process over time, or of a good book I should get I'm hoping I'm not being given more than I can handle.
