  1. You want a nice swivel, go to a fishing shop and get some Barrel Swivels. You want an inline swivel not an end swivel. once the animal is caught and wraps once the end swivel doesn't work anymore. Here's one weaved in. an exstension cable is the way to go, put the leader around a tree fence post and put the snare through the loop bang your down the road. A system like this you can set 200-300 in a day with a well planned line.
  2. I posted this before on how to tune them up with pictures. If you want to make them sensetive it's very easy. Set the trap in your hand, while holding the jaws just start the trigger. You'll get your hand whacked a few times when you start, but after a few bites you'll get the idea.
  3. The bigger the bait the better. No guts they want fresh bait that is not tainted. You can salt you bait a little in freezing conditions.
  4. If your setting a trail that is straight you can get away with an untreated snare for fox. A little trick is hang a piece of fur about 20 yards down the trail 6 feet off the gournd before and after the snares. They will focus on on it and you'll have plenty of skinning.
  5. 1/4 cup baking soda to 3 gallons of water. Bring this to a boil then drop to a light simmer for 20 mins. Shut down your heat source and let sit over night. The next day take a garden hose and place in the bottom of the pot. Keep the hose on one side and tilt the pot on the other so when you tirn on the water "nothing crazy" the scum will float off. Don't boil them for more than a minute. You don't want to over do it, you'll remove the lubrication from the inside strans causing rust on the inside. I then hang till dry roll each one up and place in zip locks. Your trying to dull it. For mink and
  6. You can also boil in walnut hulls, But you really don't need to dye. Wax is the way to go. Be careful where you get your wax, sometimes when you get it at a craft store they keep all the candle sents next to it. Make sure your wax is lightly smoking, dip dry trap until it is as hot as the pot of wax. Now pay attention. Do not do this inside and make sure you have a piece of wood to put over the pot. Hot wax is highly flamable. Be very careful when dealing with this it will burn right through your skin also. Speed dip is good for water traps. I like to mix mine with white gas 4
  7. I wasn't there but she sent me some fertile eggs to hatch, she's trapped down in South East PA and now resides in Maryland.
  8. Little Loyd where did you get that pic for your avatar?? Looks like Stef's from Maryland. She's a good fox trapper.
  9. Why not just dig a hole for the trap "Pocket set" then attach about 3 foor of chain anchored in deep water. Mink gets the jewelry on and heads for deep water. Not being able to swim and work the trap drowns in minutes. They say once a mink get's caught they can have a heart attack.
  10. Your setting traps and then moving them to new locations, then back rotating them once the migration stars and the begin to pair up. Gps is one way to remember but marking maps is another.
  11. He's in the best fox counrty in the US, I would guess 200-250 miles a day driving. You also have to remember that he can drive right up to his sets.
  12. This is the start of laying them out, Richard Askins was there also. His family owns Sleepy Creek Traps. Here's some other long liners. I would say between them all there 30k fox over the years. But as I have said Lure and traps play 10% of a haul like that. Back in 1968 I think, Marvin Bud Hall bet a guy by the name of John K Smith both from Iowa who could catch the most fox. John K Smith ended up with 1116 fox. That record stood until last year when another guy in that group broke it by 1 fox. Iron Phil has had a few seasons of 1000 fox but was motivated to break that
  13. These fox were all foot trapped, it's my understanding he used Carmens Cirle Maker. By hard work, understanding fax patters and setting on location is what yeilded these results. He uses a dirt hole set. But as I said hard work is what does and having that population to work with.
  14. Well here it is. I have plenty of pics of this historic catch. I'll post more in the next day or so. Long drive and alot of BSing today. 15. with great difficulty WIth the vast amount of birds of prey, fox and coyote we just don't have the numbers you guys have. Some areas get them in cycles every 6 or so years. But If I had to I would snare them since gang setting would be easy.
  16. Lot's of guys snare them, 1/8th inch cable. The fastest most productive way I have ever seen was a large live trap with an automatic feeder and waterer. They would also spray the area with a little desiel fuel or a soaked rag, there atracted to the smell.
  17. 100 clean butts, 1 liver, 10 gall bladders, covered in urine all summer and then grind and strain and add in glycerin....or you can add urine to the base and keep stretching it. THis is one helluva lure right here and thousands upon thousands of fox have been taken on that recipe. If the weather holds this weekend I am taking a ride out to a friends place. He will be putting out the largest fox catch ever in one season. Stay tuned the pictures will be unreal. As stated and I am not trying to plug Rich, he ships all over the world and something like 10 gallons a month to AU of his bai
  18. I did not write this Bob Jameson Did. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- First you need to decide whether you want a paste type lure in the end or a liquid type for squirt bottle type applications. Or you can make a batch of each if you so desire. Developing a lure in a more fluid state can give you a greater volume amount. The more age you have on glands the greater the product extension possibilities are as the end result in formulation options. The more fresh the gland age is the more tissue mass will still be present but yet it will po
  19. If you want just fox, a fresh dug hole with some tainted meat will work wonders.
  20. Here's a few. Iowa Disposable Ron Hansen Jr. That's also a Hansen Drowning lock on the cable. Close up Bullet disposable modifeid disposable with steel tip. Here's some drivers for these, I have others but i don't feel like going out to my trap truck. I have 1 driver that is 4 feet long for water trapping. I have used the washer or AKA Pogo but my soil is all rock and makes it tough to drive in. If your soil isn't they are the way to go. When you drive them in do not pull up to set them, pull along the ground until it sets, then c
  21. What animal are you after?? are you looking to make bait or lure.
  22. I have the part of my mink in the freezer, I'll get them put up in week with another pic to follow. 6.5 pound mink is huge,a big buck here would be 4.5 pounds. I also don't have a huge population of them here.
