R lass is away so I was incharge of the menu for myself.
Pork chop, 2 lamb chops, mini crackling and fresh colli from the garden.
Doubled up so got snap for tomorrow ready.
That was home grown pork, local lamb traded for home grown pork, home grown colli.
So pretty much 'self sufficient' meal if you include trading with like minded people I.e. not bought from a shop (which I do).
Bloody lovely. The chops are amazing. I've never like pork chops but chops from traditional breeds are next level
I've not much pork left now , 6 to 8 weeks got two ready for slaughter , lamb not long after then two pigs November time for Christmas , my pal got one sow in pig tamworth an just got two berkshire sows to put in pig to his tamworth boar , so probably going yo do 4 pigs at a time , two sows an two boar thay be just for sausage

Thats brilliant
I sat a bee keeping course last yr with a view to doing this but felt like quite a bit of time needed to keep an eye on them that I may not be able to give all the time. How do you find it? Seeing that makes me want to do it!!!
Every 10 days we check the hives take queen cell out look for eggs , look in honey box if all most full add honey box on keep bees busy stops them swarming , you just leave bees to it rest of time , there's alot to learn but you can only learn by getting some hives in an giving it a go , you get alot of honey from one honey box with good summer thay can fill box up fast

I was put off keeping sheep by a few of my farmer mates. Best quote was "the ones that dont get fly blown are manic depressive and spend all their time trying to find another way to die......and if they can't figure out a good way to go they just lie on their back and die that way"
I decided not to bother
Will give lambs ago again , bottle fed lamb can be abit loud as when thay hear you start to cry out wanting a bottle , it's like having baby's again

Day playing about in veg side. Weeded and tillers 2 new beds, plus added a small one for a row of raspberries. Hoops added for the netting. Now got all beds in planning on getting some below ground water pipe around where I need and finishing new chicken run and then I can sort all pathways out.
On the livestock front I've decided to only keep chickens for eggs so will be dropping to 6/8 hens. Got my name down on 2 Berkshire blacks for the end of July, try a different breed again.
Thay say Berkshire blacks are very good meat pigs , veg plot looking grand pal

I’ve done something similar I just got planning approved for a agricultural store 20m x15 m aprox tin roof , wood cladding on sides, new road and gate in. It’s on a 28 day planning notice so it’s quite easy to get ( if you know the game)
If I had the money I'd be doing same, got some pigs from a lad he lives in woods in caravan an got cupple small field's, he told me start breeding pigs easier to get planning permission to live on land tobe there for pigs giving birth
