mmmmm the two that were mucking around came from the same source, died within a fortnight of each other so i am now wondering if they have been interbread by an errant ferret owner and mabey a family mutation has affected them?
ive got a few jills that i feel are coming to the end of their life as they are going into there 4th season . towards the end of last years rabbiting they decided to start pratting around, they would bolt the rabbit but then decide to go back down the burrows or just play around in the tops of the holes.so as they are a good line of ferret they have been lined with my sandy hob and are now retired hoping to get a good line of workers off them. has anyone else got this problem or have you got jills that have worked longer than 4 seasons?
there in season alright my two brothers have been seperated for the last month- the males can stay in season till september so dont put them back together too early or you will have the same bother.

butcher refuses point blank to accept 'milky' meat and prefers to stock his freezer from me at the beginning of the year i do not have dogs so i have no outlet for the meat when it is in this state and my ferrets only eat the livers. have put rabbits into the cages and they 'stash' rather than eat the rabbit flesh and i get concerned with bacterial poisoning so they dont get it. give them raw mince and they will scoff there hearts content but they will not eat rabbit the parky so and so's, have tried a milky doe myself and can taste a 'tinge' to the meat and can understand why the butcher will
not out ferreting but gutted tonight when i got in - the missus told me that my albino jill had died an hour since. was gutted as it was a canny little worker and her sister is missing her like mad. just settled her sister in with a soft polecat and they seem ok so fingers crossed they will settle for the night but rip sandy and thanks for all the ferreting we had a ball
been waiting for a long time for permission on a large moor to come through and finally on friday i managed to bag it. then friday afternoon i got a phone call from one of the neighbours that lived on the moorside that he had a large number of rabbits in his garden. don't particually like ferreting at this time of year but was that excited i had to go up today and have a go. mabey this is the last crack of the whip as they say as it wont be long before the girls are in season. fabulous day the weather was perfect and managed to cull 25 rabbits but unfortunately it was a cull to keep the old de
our two hobs were split up weeks ago as the were tearing strips off each other safer to split them up if you can and they can stay in season till around sep/oct so be carefull
we work with the north east ferret rescue and abhor any treatment of ferrets like this - the market should be closed down for allowing the ferrets to be kept in conditions like plastic buckets.as everyone knows the ferrets cant sweat and being encased in plastic is detrimental to their health as it can bring on fits and the sutchlike. im sure the rspca should be made aware of this situation and animal welfare is paramount in situations like this. if you get an animal and that is ANY animal be it a dog,cat or a ferret you should take it for the animals life and not till you get fed up or sick o
if you get the remenants from a ferret cage ( dirt etc) and spread the stuff round the rat holes the rats cant stand the smell of it. i was inundated with rats last year with keeping chickens and i was sceptical myself when someone told me this old tale but i tried it and i havent had a rat in the chicken pens since
