The judge goes over the dog with the breed standard in mind. If the standard says 20" tall a dog at 25" tall ain't going to win. The breed clubs write the standard. . It is the judge who decides, as long as the dog conforms with the breed standard. TC And who writes the breed standard????, the breed club.

I'm with socks and the others on this, can you honestly tell me that a kc/show bred dandie or sealyham could do the job of same breeds bred for work by people not after money/fame?Same with staffs, bulldogs, gundogs, deerhounds, most working breeds in fact. Yes it's breeders breeding, but to kc standards, which are ruining most breeds of dog. All gundogs have to be KC registered to take part in a field trial. Spaniels, retrievers, hpr's, pointers and setters all do the job they were bred for yet are KC registered . A working bred springer spaniel is totally different, looks and mental attit

I totally agree. If you want a working dog a working pedigree is the only one worthwhile. I was merely pointing out that to blame the Kc for "ruining" breeds is incorrect.

The kennel club keep the standard set by the breed clubs. The individual breed clubs come up with the standard for each breed. Dog breeders breed dogs not the Kc

No they do not. Dog breeders breed dogs not the KC. Look at the pointer for example. A working bred pointer is a superb animal that can cover a moor , at some speed,looking for a single grouse. A show bred pointer may struggle to find its food dish in a kitchen. There is only one standard for the pointer according to the KC. Dog breeders breed dogs not the KC.

The kennel club registers pedigree dogs, they do not ruin breeds. It's like saying the dvla ruined the Subaru Impreza when the shape of the car was changed.

Must be deafening at the New York stadium with all those 9000 Rotherham fans Indeed, the New York Stadium was deafening when we were there. But then again, everywhere is deafening when we are there. The dullest set of football fans in the world. I have been in doctors waiting rooms with more atmosphere than a home game at Hillsborough. Terrible, terrible set of fans.Years and years ago, back in my school days, even the kids that got bullied shunned the Wendy's. Lol. Massive!!!!.

I was once told a story about rock dogs. One of the fell packs had run a fox to ground in a bad rock pile. Terrier after terrier were tried but it was hopeless. The huntsman then declared only one mans dogs could sort the problem so the guy in question came to the rocks and entered a dog. Minutes later the sounds from below said the dog was doing his job. Have the dog at your left hand side.Use a rope slip lead with a rubber stopper on it. Put the lead over the dogs head infront of its left ear and behind its right ear. Pull the stopper down tight on top of its head. The dog will then walk to heel.

Bet that went down well in the springer world ;-D Most of the spectators thought it was fantastic trial won by a very worthy winner in the cocker bitch ftch mallowdale midge. Others don't like it purely down to the handler of the bitch. Shame really.

Last month a cocker bitch won the Irish spaniel championship against a field of some very good springers.

Just watch it for what it was, a bit of easy watching tv. It amazes me how many people comment on so many programs on tv yet no one on THL ever watches tv?. Just like no one drinks, smokes, go to supermarkets, eats meat bought in, eats veg bought in etc etc. Go out and make a wildlife film and sell it to the tv companies, you will make a fortune. Oh sorry, I forgot, people are self sufficient on THL so don't need any money.
