Tawnys are starting to call now and are getting territorial. They're early nesters once we get into the new year, late feb/march time. There's a couple over the road from me every night screeching away. Seen a couple of Short eared owls recently too . I heard a pair of Robins tonight at 8.30 singing away!

I'll agree with Baldie about the Pennine bunch but will also say that every area will have its own "team" of rescuers ready to drop everything and be there. People you can rely on. We all know who they are and we would do the same for them. It's always nice to get a dog out alive, but when you don't, it's not just the owners who feel it, but the lads involved in the failed rescue. Yeah, I heard it. The topic of discussion was "What is the most flouted law in the country? Not wearing seatbelts, dropping litter, using the phone whilst driving etc etc were all mentioned, then this guy comes on :realmad: raging about a fox being killed, LIVE ON RADIO 2. "I'll tell you the most flouted law, it's the so-called foxhunting ban. I've just seen a fox being ripped to shreads on our land". And described exactly as Taffy says. They moved on then to dogs shitting in parks! Who gives a feck? :11: I think he mentioned the south east of the country. It was on the Jeremy Vine show.

Two Lakeland Terriers were stolen from off a building site on Monday in the Ripponden area in West Yorkshire :realmad: . One is a rough red bitch and the other a very dark red 9 month old dog. Two lads were seen taking the Terriers and getting into a white Vauxhall combo van at dinnertime. The lads were wearing Hi viz vests, so they could be involved in the building trade. They were in a shop nearby earlier in the day and the shopowner said they sounded like local lads. Keep your mincers peeled please . PM me if you have any info.

Have you heard any vixens calling yet???? I was out on thursday evening and as soon as we got out of the vehicle we could hear a fox barking. As it turned out, it could have been a dog fox because one came to nosey at a squeak and paid the ultimate price! On the way back to the van, we saw another two about 20 yds apart but well out of range. :search: There's been a couple barking opposite the house this week along a train line. :ph34r:

You'd certainly think so Madhunter, but those smallish vixens can give it out just as much as, if not more than, the bigger foxes.

Steve, I don't know the reason but the last few I've seen dug to and hunted up recently have been really big beasts, even the vixens are showing well. What's the reason...the good summer providing plenty of food? Less foxes so more to go round? (though I've seen six killed this past week, albeit in different areas :ph34r: ). The local keeper has had five in the past two weeks and ALL were in great nick with good coats and weighed a decent weight. A local guy to me was featured in Countrymaids Weekly a few years ago with a thirty pounder.

Must be a terrible infliction to have, s s s sstuttering. I can recall a guy on that TV programme "Call my Bluff" from the early 1980s, Patrick Campbell I think he was called. Feck he had it bad! (Or did he have a stammer?). I also work with a ranger who nearly nuts you, such is his struggle and frustration to get his words out! :realmad:

What a good do :ph34r: . That top fox looks like a feckin' fat corgi. Has anyone else noticed that there seems to be a lot of movement concerning foxes at this time of year. A keeper local to me has had four in a week, three in the snare and one with the rifle. And I found one this morning still twitching in the snare, on a spot I go on. A snare was set after this one was shot at (I think), a few nights ago and made for the bit of cover he was found in this morning. Them foxes look well Cupid.

I've got to agree with Stabs on this one (the TX), though my experience is pretty limited . When I get a gun/rifle I make sure it gets some use instead of swapping and changing models. One disappointment with the TX (mine anyway), is that some pitting has appeared on the blued barrel and considering it's only a few months old, that's a poor feckin' do . Several others have had the same problem.

I normally take my items of taxidermy outside and give them a bit of a dust with a light rag, and if there's a breeze, so much the better. Use a Johnson cotton bud for the eyes and any other tight place and also a used tooth brush to clean fur etc. Any major damage, take it to a taxidermist.

Nice pics Dillon. I've caught a few, mainly urban type and I've had chicken drumsticks, sarnies and rabbit work for me amongst other things. Everything that's been mentioned is spot on IMO. On the cat theme...make sure it's feckin' dead first! Dillon, is that trap in the top photo from the lancs area? Similar to one of mine.

No, I've heard that myself Fellpony. You weren't having your hernia pulled. An all mesh or wire cage might be better though.
