My mate uses his thermal scope, not ideal, lifting it at every field but it does the job. More often than not i flick a light on and pick anything up quickly if possible then turn off and leave it to him. He has good success on his own using his scope but he’s said he needs a thermal spotter. Mightily impressed with his scope though ?

Gave this dog fox an ear piercing last night. Came in steady, stopped 80yrds and my mate sent him on his way with his .17.

Had one last night but left it at the farm

Don’t watch much telly but I’m noticing the adverts are becoming like a brain washing session. New one on me tonight, an advert with a black fella, his white partner, 2.4 half cast kids, which is the norm but it also had a midget thrown in the mix as well! ?

Bobby Ball passed away today Edited to say I didn’t notice Socks had already posted about this, silly of me to think he hadn’t ?

I never click on shite like this and haven’t looked at it, whatever it is. Same with social media and the news on telly, especially the BBC news. Jeremy Vines programme is given a wide birth as well, I’ll put a cd on if I’m in my van. Life is much better if you pay no attention to these kind of things. Just get on with it and don’t be led like a feckin’ donkey ???

This looks like an excellent book and will make a great stocking filler for this coming Christmas. Some great info and old photographs. Every page reveals something new. Available from Neil at www.bettyfold.co.uk ??

Lots of dog foxes. Two of these were below his place in the same field so maybe there’s a vixen nearby. He did say he’d heard one calling recently. We’ll get at least two on Thursday this week going off what the farmer has told me

Knocked on at the keepers cottage later this afternoon to sort out a night shooting with him this week. Christ, he doesn’t mess about, he shot these three all around his place recently, probably over a couple of hours! All dog foxes and that makes it seven in a week. Look forward to calling on him as you never know what might be laying in the yard. They keep coming....??

Received my copy today, and it looks to be another crackin’ book on fell hunting from Neil. If you visit the fell packs this is a must and a duty to purchase. ????

Ask a keeper if he needs help the odd day checking his trap lines, feeding, preparing butts, fencing etc. Get out beating as well, always meet good contacts out beating. Also ask around farms to see if they need help. When I retire I’ll be doing that except the local keeper can’t wait, he’s already pencilled me in to help him most days when I pack work in.

Spotted this on the bottom of the garage door recently, size of a tennis ball ?? -
I’ve got two MVF seat covers from Mole Valley Farmers on the front seats. Seem good quality, tough material and easy to clean

Got a Ruger Hornet. Crackin’ rifle. Used to have a guy doing loads for me but back on the factory rounds, which do the job. Just put in for my licenses again and this is staying on it. ??

Ahh, didn’t know that, thought it was the newer one. Still, it’s ok for knocking about in and as I’ve said, keeps most rain off and is windproof ?? Just gets chucked in the back of the wagon

I’ve a ridgeline smock, not sure which one it is, could be the Pintail. It’s the newer version. A lot better than the previous one, breathability is better, stands some rain and is pretty good against wind. I’ll be throwing it on today and doing a fair bit of walking in it. Ideal as a throw on and to stuff in a rucksack ??

Excellent video, really enjoyed that ????

Must have been unwell that Charlie. Most will pass by without a glance. Looked a bit mangy as well, maybe picked up some poison on its travels?

Canada geese and GL36
cragman replied to FOXHUNTER's topic in Gamekeeping, Conservation & Shoot Management
I’ve got on top of the geese on certain permissions by pricking their eggs and keeping at it until it’s too late in the season. Then knock the adults off with the rimmy. As has been said, they moult in July so that’s another chance to keep at them. Lots of feathers on the grass will tell you when they’re moulting. Watch their movements when they feed, they won’t go far from water, It’s their place to escape to when they’re moulting so try to cut their route off back to the water. I’ve found them to stay calm if you get them all together, then dispatch them humanely. Even on the water they can -
