  1. Personally, I'd advise persevering and experimenting with lead and angle. It often helps to shoot them at fairly close range to start with (ie when commiting to land in your pattern) and then gradually extend the range as your confidence in shooting pigeons grows. Start close in, end up tackling fast movers and crossers as you get your eye in Good luck, chin up and all the best, Duncan
  2. You are missing out big time! If youre close enough,I'll show you just how tasty and how easy to cook woodies and bunnies are! Your ferrets are damned lucky!!!
  3. Many thanks indeed John - pm finally replied to. Just got in from my first ever clay flush. Had a cracking time and hit a heck of a lot more than I'd hoped for Pm'd back. Thanks again, Duncan.
  4. Hi Folks, I've hunted with rifles for many years and been pigeon shooting for a season or two now but always fancied doing some wildfowling. Obviously I don't know if its 'my thing' yet so don't necessarily want to join a club to just to find out. So I was wondering if there's a seasoned campaigner out there who wouldn't mind showing me the ropes when it comes to wildfowling, inland or foreshore, and sharing their knowledge and experience? I am mature, willing to listen and insured. A reasonable shot? I'll let you be the judge or take the pee I'm in North Bucks but obviously
  5. Some good sense coming from the posts so far. I reckon one step at a time. Are you under or near a flight line? Basic and classic decoy pattern set up, ideally with your back to the wind, try different things if nothing is coming in; rotory, flapper, bouncer etc. Bottom line is, if theres nothing in the air where you set up, nothing is going to be pulled in by your pattern. If you are game, I'm not massively far from you and don't mind coming out to give you a hand. In the meantime, good luck and all the best, Duncan
  6. I have to agree with the posted brands. You get what you pay for when it comes to ammo
  7. I hope you know how damn lucky you are Moley! Espesh if your mrs is fit
  8. Of course, ideally you'd take the mistress with you ......
  9. Pm sent mate, I'm up for a look up there or anywhere else you might want to go, I need to get some rabbits bagged mate, you must have a freezer full now ! Not quite mate....still room for a few more yet ;) Darryl Don't you butcher them lol?
  10. What time of day are you going out matey? Good tips already given though - a shame you're not a couple of hundred miles closer! Cheers Duncan
  11. I just bought a 1000 lyalvale 12g 28g 7 1/2 for 152. Apparently they have since gone up to 160 odd. Its not just the copper and lead that have gone up on price, cotton too has gone through the roof. Then theres the transport: fuel costs have gone up by 40% in a year and shells are heavy. Lets face it, shotgunning isn't exactly a cheap sport. Especially if you want to regularly practise at clays. 1000 carts a month at £160 ish plus say 200 -300 quid at the clay ground, plus the odd beer afterwards and petrol to get you to and from. Makes pigeon shooting look damn cheap! ATB Duncan
  12. Put 'Ground game, vermin and occasional fox'. It worked for me
  13. I'd probably go for a Bettinsoli O/U (Weihrauch fan for airguns myself too), Lanbers are good too for the money. If you're 6 ft give or take, you'll probably get on better with 30" barrels, 28" if you're a tad shorter. Best advice: shoulder a few, feel how they swing for you (as sg's are very different to rifles!). Quarter and half fixed chokes are fine for most things and suit field work very well too. Good luck!!!
  14. CZ's - very good value for money rifles. Accurate, well built and ultra reliable. Nice bag too ATB Duncan
  15. I recently bought my SP too. As I most simply understood it, the more notches marked at the end of the choke, the looser the choke is. Excellent gun by the way! My scores at the clay ground noticeably improved when I got the new gun, especially on sporting. Bring on the pigeons! Duncan
  16. Hello all, I'm new to this forum but not new to hunting. I've been into rifles all my adult life; air, rimfire and lately .17 hmr. March this year I got my sgc so I could pursue woodpigeon and other quarry. I just love doing field sports and cooking game I live near Newport Pagnell, North Bucks and have the usual wife and 2 kids, 4 dogs umpteen cats. Possibly why I like the relative peace of the fields and woods. Cheers Duncan
