  1. good going and a nice write up; much appreciated. Nice to see some of your indigenous pests. The dove looks like a cross betweeen our woodpigeon and a collared dove. Cheers D.
  2. You are right Pe4r, but permissions in the UK are not so easy to come by. Personally, I would be happy to help you out for a few hunting trips, although I am in the centre of England, not Yorkshire. I can find you rabbits etc to hunt if that helps, Cheers Duncan.
  3. I very much appreciate your answer Dekers, and it seems we are in a similar device for maintaining bouyancy . Cheap, but will we enjoy the ride?
  4. Love that one - tell it to our 16 yo often. Mind you, his habit of not washing his clothes for months on end stops the worry about sex with his under-age gf. Flies wouldn't go near his crackers so he defo wouldn't expose a romantic interest to them
  5. We just put a debris mesh roof on our pens stops all raptors !! Bit of cost but worth it Unrealistic on any decent pen. Licenses to control them at peak times is the only way. Just try getting a license !
  6. Boring. Interesting for a while through incredulity then lapses into boring. At the end of the day, there's only one way to settle this..................fight, fight, fight! My money's on GP - he sounds younger, but both contenders seem to contain a lot of pi55 n wind.! Any chance for a pint and a face to face debate? Something like 'universally challenged'. D Wilko and out
  7. seems like 30 quid is the going rate then, plus grub n some game to take home. Not a days pay in the true sense of the word but good perks for being out in the open air and taking part in country pursuits, albeit in a supporting role. Sign me up! Anything in North Bucks area?
  8. My gran used to say " a blind man would be pleased to see it.." Heard in Twycross Zoo car park - "Do you want a banana or a smack?" and "Do you think apples grow on trees?". No wonder kids grow up confused!
  9. Actually, I've successfully hunted rabbits with a Ratcatcher producing a reliable 8.5fpe and it killed perfectly with accurately placed cranial shots at 25 yards, occasionally 30 yards. Admittedly, I prefer 11fpe or a tiny bit more. With the Weihrauch springers I've owned, once they are well 'run in', I've never even contemplated having them tuned as they go off so sweetly (in .22) that it seemed unnecessary. Can't beat pellet on pellet through a springer at 35 yards! Don't let me put you off though - I imagine a tuned HW is sublime cheers and happy hunting, Duncan
  10. Hi folks, as I've spunked a lot of money on shooting lately, swmbo is looking to keep me on a budget for the next rifle (replacement rf). Are Magtech semi-auto's any good? or should I get an older 'quality' rifle? Many thanks in advance! Duncan.
  11. Some invaluable tips and info here guys - many thanks! Reassuringly, the majority of opinions on cleaning the hummer seem to concur Duncan.
  12. Where does the Irish sounding accent come from then? they just want to be irish who doesn't. the English, for a start.
  13. Depends on: 1 - how fit the wife was when you married her 2 - how fit she is now 3 - if you fancy a change!
  14. Yes, but with Cheryl you wouldn't want the light out! With her mother you'd need black out blinds
  15. That'll be the first and last time I go to that shop in Market Harborough then! Fankies, D
  16. Lol! Looks like you're about to be kneecapped Good haul - well done. D
  17. Did your service include new internals such as a main spring? If so, as moving parts bed in, power can actually creep up. My old 97K in .22 started at 11.5 fpe and 6 months later after being used a lot had crept up to close to 14 fpe! I had to take a coil off the spring but it did go off incredibly sweetly. Not that it was harsh at 14. Cheers D.
  18. My bleedin God! I picked up a box of steel shot for a go at some flighting ducks today from clay shooting supplies in Market Harborough. Nowt special, just 32g of #4 shot for ducks (all they had in stock) and £9.50!!!!! for a standard 25 box. I thought lead was meant to be dearer than steel? Or have I been had? No KY either. Cheers Duncan
  19. Many thanks Tegater - seems like a thorough procedure. Duncan
  20. @ Conor. Whack a Hare for me while you're at it Chimp - there's not many around here
  21. Do stop beating around the bush Conor and say what you really think for goodness sake!
  22. Good job your amongst friends Mike , I'm sure no-one on THL will rib you for it
  23. About cleaning the .17 hmr - the concensus seems to be clean fairly regularly (every 15 - 20 shots I've heard many times), but with what? Some swear by boresnakes, others say they are useless. Cleaning rod and jag? What about solvents? I want to keep the rifle accurate and obviously don't want to damage my barrel or shorten its life. Many thanks in advance, Duncan.
