Had plenty of deep ones in rock coming off the moor at dark and back first light with not a wink of sleep.its a test for both man and dog never again you tell yourself, but then you pull the dog and get your fox and you forget about all about the sores and pain, and in a few week your back on the same pile, i must be a sucker for punishment lol
  2. To you maybe because you dig. Take your average digging dog up to a hunt terrier man up in the fell country and it would be no good to him. He might say 10 of your digging dog are not worth 1 of his. Im not saying ones better than the other. Just different people need different dogs nothings black and white is it
  3. two old boys who my mate goes out with have got a bellman but never use it they prefer to use the old gray box, its done them well for years so why not keep using it.

  5. I agree to a point they are two different types of dogs the motto of a digging dog is stay till dug .now in the rock that may never come so at some point they have to come out, now if a earth dog did that it would be a jacker, horse for course

  7. Heard that a few times it is a common way of a dog getting stuck in a pile fox trys to bolt over the top or side dog takes hold as it passes and kills it trapping the dog in

  10. Thats why its always a good idea to be part of a terrier club you never know when you might need them, even if its just a few extra pair of hands

  12. My uncle used to work beddys in the rock going back a long time now tho, he used to say they was demons in the piles

Lots are lost in sandy places but lads still work them, but you learn how to work your area. most mistake lads do on rock spots is get to near them stand plenty back if the Fox hears you he will push as far in as he can thats when you have trouble, stand back stay quiet an let the dog work the pile
  15. I used to pal When i had my old dog lots of good spots around the pennines but when you get over on the Lancashire side a lot of them can be shafts thats when you need a bit of Local Knowledge. There's a lad on hear that still works them a lot.you might have to be Looking up north for a good stud dog
  16. Finding a good rock dog now is very hard unless your in with the right people

  19. true, are there still game bred wheatens today in ireland , wonder if any over here in england .? if you knew where to look there might be one or two
