A question for the more experienced lads, I completely agree with what bosun says. That's one of the reasons why the Lakelands and borders have died out simply because the blacks are better. since I started properly with the terriers. Everything I have seen dug to has almost 100% been black, My question is why when you talk to the old boys people that have been doing the job for years they say the Lakelands was honest dogs.. so why did they seem to just give way to the blacks?

Looks nice is it a little border pup or a border cross? -
Yeah Lee took a couple last time I spoke to him they was looking well
-
They don't do it any more buddy and thats the problem. If it was burnt off properly at the right time if the year this sort of thing wouldn't happen..... every year as a kid. Farmers and keepers would plan out what to burn and when.
-
It would have to be Mr wade for me keen dog man and and a very intelligent man. And if it wasn't for the hard work from him and the rest of the NWTF have done none of us would be putting a dog in the ground. I have found one thing when you meet the so called big names.... there dogs and there keeping of dogs arnt much better than the rest of us.

Another post ruined,

I would love to say we will stuff Wales but they always seem to find another two gears when playing England

I'm my opinion I have never seen a out and out baying terrier kill a Fox. In all honestly buddy I just keep little bolting terriers. That's all I need for the type of work I normally do. the other lads I go out with keep the proper dogs lol. I'm generally honest about the dog's I keep and people who know me will say I never suger coat my dogs. But I have a pup that I bred out of two fell/black types and it's tuned out looking like a old school beddy! That's on the way to been a bit more of a harder type than I normally keep.
-
My little baying bitch would never kill a Fox if she lived to be a 100 if I'm honest. But she dose me and that's that matters A joiner can't hang a door with just a hammer, he needs a few different tools in the box.

We have had this convo before.. now this is just my opinion but I'd say yes. But its all about personal choice. People want different things from there dogs a dog that won't stick when digging is no good for digging but if it's busy type and Will mix why not give it a spin on the rocks. Some lads want a dog will kill if it dosnt bolt but some want a dog that will just do an hour and if no bolt show.. then see if the Fox will come..... I always say terrier work int black or white. If the dog suits you happy days.. Now breeding is something I haven't done a lot of so can't comment really

I'd say there very different buddy a fox could be anywhere in the pile down a crack up on a ledge the natural formation of rocks is crazy a crack in the rocks can go anywhere. Then there is the wind blowing through the pile sending the sent in different directions. The dog might be winding the Fox to the left though a crack but have to go right to get a round it and try find another way in. We stupidly put an inexperienced rock dog in a pile.. she was a fantastic digging bitch probably the best I have ever seen for sher drive and determination. She marked it from the lead on the way b

Well said Morton

Why's everyone edited what they have said? Have I missed something
-
Dan opinions are like arse holes buddy everyone has one. Just some like broadcast it more than others. One day I might get a good dog...... but I might not. But in the meantime I'll just make do with my pot lickers.
-
I said I'm no expert but I wouldn't be doing it.
-
So how long would it take for Benson to walk or how much hammer would she take if the Fox was on a ledge an she couldn't get it.... that bitch would never walk and leave a fox. Look what happened at Ian's last season a fox in a bad spot will punish a dog badly. Like i say I'm no expert on the matter. But I wouldn't be slipping a digging dog into a pile.
-
So how do they know when to stick and when to move. an 100% digging dog will stay till dug to or am I wrong? So how do they know if there in a pile or a earth. If a dog was in a rock pile and it waited till the brake through it more might be waiting a long time. I always thought a rock dog should be a busy thing if it can't get in moved about Not pushing on in a tight crack and getting stuck because it can smell the Fox But like I say I'm no expert just my option
-
No buddy it's what's this place is about people chatting about working terriers every one has different input/ideas about what and how things should or shouldn't be done. Terrier work is different all around the UK. Some lads live to dig a well educated animal. Some lads live to bolt a fox to guns or what ever . It's not all black and white in my view. Just to clear up I don't keep rock dogs due to the fact i cant find a proper one and they arnt easy to come by. If you did terrierwork with a pack up here. And you only would use your dog in a soil earth you would probably only get

There only as dangerous as a sand earth can be buddy. how many dogs are dug dead in running sand. Or your digging a spot and the last two foot wont say on the spade. That's when my ares gose. A lot of these rock holes now can be got to by a machine anyways and a good driver and a good team of lads.. there is still hope for the dog
