  1. I'm starting once it's cut to bring my pup on, no other reason than that and no serious work. just getting him going for when the season gets going proper. The few rabbits I (hopefully) take aren't going to destroy the population on my permission.. I know that for certain.
  2. Personally I think it would be so much more satisfying down the line when a pup you have trained up starts working and making you proud.
  3. Well done mate, bet you're chuffed. I'm still waiting for that feeling. My pup is just over 10 months old and yet to make a kill. He hasn't had that many runs to be fair, just a few daytime rabbits when I've been exercising him off the lead and they have got up infront of him. He managed to get hold of one the other week but then dropped it when it squeeled - must have been a bit of a new experience for him. I didn't know whether to laugh or to cry lol! Nice to hear some pups around his age are coming on nicely though! I'm sure it's just a matter of time. ATB for the season
  4. how's he bred mate? looking good!
  5. Thanks for the comments guys hope he comes on as well and easy as you all think he's going to. New experience for me bringing a running dog on so there's bound to be some mistakes... been a few already if I'm being honest lol!! Kevin - sorry mate but he's not for sale.. got high hopes for him all being well. Big compliment you wanting him though.. thanks very much! Does nobody know any more information about that Bill dog then? Is what I've heard correct?
  6. Cheers lads! Can't wait to get him going properly when season starts.
  7. He's just over 10 months old. 23" tts. Sire: saluki/greyhound, Dam: saluki/greyhound x whippet. Both parents are Charlie blood from somewhere along the line - I'm told a bitch pup out of Charlie was lined with a pure saluki dog called Bill (the brother to Khan Jihad). A dog out of the following litter is my pup's Grand-sire... I think!! I've also heard that Bill was a 5 out of 5 dog before being killed by an accident in the field. Can anybody shed some extra light on any of this?? Anyway, here are some pics of him. There should be 5 if you follow the link. Would love to know what everyo
  8. Plenty at Raby Castle in the North East. Must be hundreds in the grounds there! Good luck running them though... either very brave or extremely stupid lol! Im talking about wild red not many people think there is any in north east but believe me there is I follow the Zetland foxhounds on foot across North Yorkshire and County Durham most weekends. Get to see quite a bit of game that is put up when the hounds are running trails, but yet to see a red. You literally trip over roe like, seem to be everywhere.

  10. So which one you keeping The white un That would be my choice too Stunner!
  11. Ah right! Like I said previously I'm relatively new to this, so don't know all the unwritten rules or correct terminology yet.. getting there though! And since asking the question I've done a bit of reading into it - so yes, I suppose I have answered my own question. Thanks anyway guys!
  12. The dam to the litter is a handy dog mate and she's the same breeding granted theres a little more GSD in the pup,I'm sure malc will test the pup and find out its true potential. And they're not for coursing mate. Thanks for the reply Johnny mate. Done a bit of reading up about them since last night. Seems they were pretty popular in the '90s for use on heavy game with quite a lot of success it seems. What is this pup to be used for then if not coursing.. a guard dog?
  13. got some smart animals there mate atb
  14. Has this type of cross been proven to produce good working lurchers before? Or any top dogs from the past? I may be being ignorant as I'm fairly new to the coursing scene having been partly converted from fox hunting , but I've never seen or heard of any alsation x's when talking to other dog men who have a lot more knowledge than I have. Surely a saluki/grey cross would match a dog of this breeding with ease.. depending on the intended quarry? Don't mean any disrespect Malc, the pup looks smashing and I hope it does you proud. Just trying to get a little more insight into the history of thi
  15. I'm new to the site and this is my first post! After reading lots of stuff on here over the last month or so I recently put my pup onto a mianly barf diet. He's a 10 month old Saluki/Greyhound/Whippet and I can see a big difference in him since I changed him over from the puppy mixer he was getting. He's starting to fill out nicely now and another benefit is those farts that have been mentioned have near enough disappeared.
