  1. I don't own a terrier and know very little about them and i only hunt with springers, but from what i've heard off a man who hunted rabbits with lurchers is that the jack russells tend to be more suited to working above the ground and flushing rabbits than the patterdales and lakelands anyway, however i don't know why. He said they were brilliant in cover and if there were rabbits there that the jr would put them out. Maybe they're more adaptable or something. Just thought it could be a good alternative to a lakeland terrier if you still wanted those terrier characteristics.
  2. Out of curiosity, are the leggier terriers generally used to hunt above the ground instead of under it. I don't work terriers but I would have thought they would be too big to go to ground or do some manage to do it anyway?
  3. Hi, i recently bought a new pup and i'm having trouble with my older dog letting the pup into the kennel with him, and by the kennel i mean the actual dog house. The day i got him the older dog was fine with him, and they both went into the kennel together, but then later on the older dog snapped at the pup because the pup was messing around with him. Unfortunately, he was bitten inside the kennel and he won't go in there at all now. I got a small box for him and put a water proof roof on it for him, and he has no trouble going into it but it won't be permanent because it will be too small for
  4. i'm not from the R.S.P.C.A.. sorry didn't think it would be a problem
  5. what do you actually mean by "drawing"..sorry i don't hunt with terriers
  6. hi, just interested if people used these for hunting. i've seen that they're often been crossed with greyhounds and lurchers on here. are they ever used for earthwork or are they too big, or are they used for bushing. i read on google that they used to be good farm dogs. thanks
  7. why?are they not nearly too big and light for ground work??
  8. hi, just out of curiosity anyone know much about these as workers.googled it and said they "look like sheep with the heart of a lion"...anyone ever use them
  9. hi, just curios to know what people thought was the the ultimate all-rounder terrier?
  10. do you need a licence/permission in ireland for air rifles? yes u do and its pretty hard to get too...listen your only making life harder on yourself bringing a dog because they're noisey..also what u shoot with a air rifle won't be very far anyway
  11. would they hunt heavy cover?and do they go to ground or tire quickly?
  12. lovely dogs...i've noticed most people favour the jack russells over patterdales, borders or lakelands...is it to do with going to ground?
  13. hi i was just wondering which breed of terrier(i.e. jr, patterdale, border, fox, lakeland etc.) i should go for for primarily flushing game above the ground...please i don't want anyone trying to tell me the usual crap that spaniels are better and all that and that a terrier will not retrieve and its only interested in foxes(because i don't care if he goes into cover looking for foxes as long as he goes in) and how i should just use my spaniels. as i've already stated i want it primarily for flushing.don't get me wrong i know alot about spaniels as i have had many and i think they're absolute
  14. I'm not making any promises or anything but what can you tell me of it i.e. parent's backround, breed, age, is it of good working strain?
