Mark, there's only one way to find out bud - give it ago
-
Well if you decide you need a new boiler give me a shout. I can get great prices for cash bud. And delivered anywhere in the UK.
-
When I used to do the doors at a local pub I uesed to get threats al the time. What people were going to do, this mate that mate etc. Nothing ever came of it. The moral of the story is if someone wanted to get you, they would have ago, not write to you like that. I would take it with a pinch of salt. Keep alert and watch around you but i wouldn't worry too much bud. The worlds full of wanabee hard men.

Have any of you seen whippets running on the fens. Never been there myself but seen dvd's and alot of the land appears to be wide open. Just wondered how a whippet would fair up? I'm going to give her a run on hares next season if all goes well. Alot of the fields in he lothians are small and compact so hopefully I will bag a few.

Fortunatly most police officers don't like to get out of their warm cars on a cold night.
-
If you had time to spare you should have refused to go to the land owners house. You do not need to go with the police unless they formaly charge you. I would have made them charge me or beat it. There is no chance it would get to court as you have permission. It would be thrown out and the police officer would have plenty paperwork to keep him occupied as well as a roasting from his superiors. Alot of police officers are little hitlers and need brought down a peg or two!

So what line in your opinion produced the most successful coursers ? Pre ban obviously I might aswell start learning now lol

Cheers bud, I will be expecting at least 100 a night and 12 out of 12 anyway

"Touch Wood" but she is doing really well. I really woked on it and during the day she is spot on. Instantly comming back when I whistle. I've had her on the lamp a few times for the odd run and she was straight back. Occasionally she takes loner than I would like but I'll get there. I think the problem was I expected too much too soon. I was comparing her to my lurcher when she was young. I got lucky that my lurcher trained really easy. But, I didn't have two young kids when I was training Tess. Not an excuse, but had I managed to train the pup as much as I put in with the Lurcher I may h

I've never met him but am sure Mike Brown is a good guy. Mike is a sound lad & a phone call or meeting with him to see how passionate he is about his whippets would show any of the doubters this. Perhaps I am being a bit harsh. I thought he bred alot more than that. Perhaps I sould have got my facts right before opening my mouth. I have never herd anyone say a bad word against him who has met him and that says alot. I will need to make my mind up if I ever meet him myself. I don't know alot about whippets and whippet lines. I only have one whippet at present and
-
To be honest I haven't heard about those lines other than lagunas. If they are breeding litter after litter and selling puerly for proffit then suerly they are peddlers too???? No matter what anyone says, if you repeat breed and have no intention of keeping a pup back then you are breeding for proffit. Weather you are mike Brown or David Hancock it is the same. How many litters does Mike Brown produce a year? How many bitches has he got? If he works full time how can he give the dogs a decent amount of work? With any breed that attracts a decent amount of money for a pup you will

Yes Frank there's Laguna in my pup but that's not why I bought her. I bought her from a genuine lad who bred a single litter and kept one back for himself. I haven't seen either parent work and will never be likely too see them work either. I didn't book a pup, I saw a litter on here and pm the guy who bred them. He had one bitch pup left so I bought it. I don't have a clue about various lines of Whippet, and couldn't care less about them either to be honest. I spoke to the chap who bred her, he said the parents both worked. I have no reason to doubt him as he was asking a very reasonable

It's all about people hearing the same thing. Advertising is simple. If you had a stud dog and came on all the working sites saying how good it was the name would stick. Just post reguarly on its update people will remember the name. If people say something enough then people start to believe what they hear. Regarding this becoming a Hancock like thread, why shouldn't it???? why should Hancock get slated but Mike Brown's a hero? Whats the diferance between the two? both breed for proffit so are both puppy pedlers in my view. What standard their dogs produce is irelavent if you look at

Do you have a Laguna Whippet?
-
Cheers Denned, I pm'd you in the past and remeber what you said. Was just wondering if anyone else had a 1/8 and what they thought. Do you think that if you trained a pure greyhound in the same way you train your dogs you would improve the stamina so they can run longer?
-
To be honest I don't know anything about show dogs or what lines were good in the ring. I dont know alot about Laguna lines either, or whippets in genral. My pup has alot of laguna in and I have herd the name "laguna" and that it was a good coursing line. I tried to find out about the dogs on her pedagree on the whippet forum but no one seemed intrested in replying. I only read about Sooty Sam in the yearbook.
-
I thought Sooty Sam was a failed show dog. i didn't think there was Laguna in him. I may be wrong as I have never seen any peds but am sure it said in the whippet yearbook that Mike Brown got him as a failed show dog. Someone on the whippetforum would pob know.

When you end up getting to 1/8 does it matter? Ie - If you had a 3/4 grey 1/4 Other Breed and put a pure grey over they would be 7/8 Grey 1/8 Other breed. Do you think these pups would be better that a pure grey stamina wise etc? Or, say you put a 3/4 grey 1/4 collie over a pure whippet the pups would be 1/2 whippet, 3/8 grey 1/8 collie. Do you think the 1/8 collie would make a diferance compared to a 1/2 whippet 1/2 Grey? Stamina wise, brain wise etc? Would appreciate everyones thoughts.

That's what it's all about - ensuring you have future sport. At the end of the day what the keeper doesn't know wont hurt him

Good stuff Tote. I hope my girls decide to come along when they are older. I am not going to force them if they dont want to but my eldest (2 and 1/2) loves playing with the ferrets and loves the dog so fingers crossed!
-
Sorry to hear that bud. I know how you feel. Chin up though!
-
Its exactly that TURNING OUT pups, yes its better spending money and time on them, great stuff, but they are still turning out pups!! Easy trap to get drawn into, like the lad who buys a pedigree dog, then clocks that a pup goes for £500 each, its a big temptation.........and results in more pups bred for money, and in these situations the breeding is rarely thoughtout either. I agree it would be an easy trap to get into. You could make a fair bit of cash. If you work full time then i think it would be hard to give four or five bitches an equal amount of work. Say you wo

For the record Im not judging Mike Brown or enyone else for that matter. Just wanted to see what people thought.
-
After reading through some of the posts it got me thinking, when do you become a pedler? Now Hancock is an obvious one but blue-boy pointed that Mike Brown turns out a good few puppies but what makes a pedler? Say you have a couple of whippets and you breed them alternite years are you a pedler or someone who is enthusiastic about your chosen breed. Is it wrong to make a bit of money from breeding? And at £350 - £400 a pup dont tell me that there's no money in it! It must be a thought whippet owners have? I certianly have thought about it. I cant see me breeding alot of pups as I

It's top seceret! Even if I was I wouldn't know about it
