Imagine you wrote a couple of books and were well known in the dog world. Imagine you had phone calls from all and sundrie, letters from people you have never met and had people with cars full of dogs turn up at you house unanounced. Would you welcome every single one with open arms? I wouldn't! Hell he even had someone try to shoot him with a crossbow because of an article he penned on collies! With people challanging you at shows to bum themselves up in front of their mates and having a go at you all the time how would you feel? Its no wonder he chose his friends wisely. If you wer

what year was it? The year was 89/90 he had a lady living with him at time who he spoke to like shit, the bloke i went with who bought the pig was Tom riley, who still lives there. I have never met him but heard about him. I wouldn't pass comment due to that fact. Still, I remember reading some of his articles in EDRD and thought that there was a bit of "poetic licence" being used. But I wouldn't slate him as I dont know him. Also, if you meet someone once do you know them, or have you met them? perhaps a point worth thinking about. who said i met him once? My appologi

Don't get me wrong I didn't agree with everything he said or did. I make my own opinions and I was always upfront with the fact that I didn't like the idea of him keeping a breeding kennels as a business. Its just not for me. I could accept it more if perhaps it was a working kennels where evey dog was worked as well as being bred from but he was honest and ran it as a buisness. I will say though even though I thought it was "wrong" I do think he did the "wrong" thing the "right" way - if you know what I mean? He kept all his dogs until they died natural, or were too ill. Most would keep them

I knew Brian pretty well and lived with Norma him for about a month in 98 helping out in his kennels and used to go over fairly reguarly until he died. I was 18 at the time and was between jobs. Somehow I ended up staying with them and it was a very intresting experiance. I don't usually reply to the "plummer" threads because it used to really annoy me people saying stuff they know nothing about and I really cant understand how people can get so worked up over someone because they dont belive what they wrote. If they were stories - who cares? Perhaps I am nieave but I believe the stuff he told

Is your honest opinion that the ban will repealed? Do you really think that it will or hope it will? I hope you are correct. What sort of timescale can you forsee before it is legal?

I understand the point stej is trying to make but we are not school kids. We actually care about our dogs and choose what fileds to run them on. The fact that both dogs are okay prooves we actually were right My dog is a KC reg ped whippet and I cant afford to run her on ground that I think will damage her as she would damage alot easier than a well bred lurcher. Filedmarshall is a very experianced lurcher keeper and would not risk damaging his dog either. Its not right to slag of the comp tho IMO
-
Exactly! Plus there were fields we chose not to run on if they were too hard. Most of them were grass and were fine to run on.
-
so quick boys get your dogs entered for the next series of (LAMPING ON ICE) Yep, Lamping on ice - You can watch it on your telly and then slag off the entrants Well, I assume you wouldn't enter

How is it not ran properly? Its easy to jump on the band wagon isn't it. I really don't understand what you mean by "iv seen it all naw" what are you trying to say?
-
You are intitled to your opinion but Filedmarshall and myself do not have to justify ourselves to you or anyone else for that matter. Do you really think that we would have risked the welfare of our dogs? Yep, the comp is defenatly a farse now When are you running your heat?
-
The first round heat between myself and fieldmarshall was ran last night and the b*****d won Firstly I would like to say he is a top bloke and even offerd me a room at his house to save me travelling back last night. His mate Mel was the judge and again he was brand new too. Basically I left the house at 4pm and met them at 7pm. I jumped into their car and an hour later we arrived at their permission. The ground was frozen solid but we decided to go ahead due to the distance I had travelled. Not udeal conditions but they were the same for both dogs. I had the first slip and

Was sitting thinking about the guys who have been fortunate to own some of the best match dogs and who have perhaps made some serious money from thier top dogs and was wondering do you think it's the way the dogs bred that made it of the way its been trained and entered thats made it? or a bit of both? Thought it would beintresting to get peoples views.
-
Well done. The thing is you cant control the conditions and the heat was run fairly. 2 rabbits or 20 rabbits you can only catch whats run.

help...ellon in aberdeen to anywhere further down
minion replied to spiderpig's topic in General Talk
Try craibs transport. They have wagons all over going back to aberdeen. -
A very intrestring subject. To me I couldn't get rid of a dog as the kids treat them as pets (as do I). I take them walks through the hills for fun as well as working them. They are pets that I work. Not dogs kept puerley for work. I can understand that if you relay on your working dogs to do a job ie - pest control etc then you could justify getting rid if they are not working well enough. As would a shepard if is collies aren't up to scratch. However, I think some people on here forget that for most lamping, ferreting, coursing etc is a HOBBY. Not a job. We do it for enjoyment. Y

fieldmarshall and myself are running on Monday 1st December and nobby will be the judge. Really looking forward to see the whippet vs coursing dog. Should be a good night and hopefully I am going to get a day out on the hares with him in the next few months.
-
I think that the whippet is very underestimated. My older bitch is nearly two and she has plenty of stamina. She is 25 Lbs and 20" and she will work away on the coldest of nights with no probs. I genuinly can't see a benifit of crossing a whippet with a beddy. Appart from looks what's the advantages? To me the whippet is a sporting dog. Buy one and you get lots of sport and a dog that will give it's all every run. You also have the option of racing it in the summer which is great fun and can enter lure coursing events if you don't mind travelling a bit.
