  1. Was having a chat about various lurcher crosses with a guy today who assures me his lurcher is 1/4 greyhound , 1/4 whippet , 1 /4 collie , 1/4 salluki because the sire was a collie grey and the dam was a saluki whippet. Now, its been 12 or 13 years since I was at school but as far as I am aware genetics are not that simple. For example, if you take that litter above are you really getting a 1/4 of each breed? or if there are say 8 pups could you end up with a very mixed litter? Potentially you could end up with a pup that is equal to a collie / saluki half cross? I may be total
  2. Very interesting topic. I have three whippets. They work during the winter and race in the summer. My problem is they are 2,3 and 4 so in a few years they will be 8,9 and 10. I work for myself and sometimes don't get the chance to work them as much as I would like. They always get plenty walks and the racing is good on a Sunday but I am hoping to work them a lot more this year. It is very easy to get carried away and end up with far too many dogs. Most people need to work and if you have a family you ned to spend time with them. Doesn't leave a lot of time to work loads of
  3. Very interesting subject and to be honest I have mixed views. Personally I believe that if you get a pup, rear it well, socialise it and look after it there would be very little chance of it turning on you. Most of the time you find that with any of the pit bull type attacks on children etc that the owners do not understand what they have. What they are capable of. I had a Plummer Terrier about 8 years ago and she was fantastic with people but she was a nightmare with other dogs. She got hold of my neighbours Jack Russell and locked on to it. I really struggled to get her off. Now thats a
  4. Thank you! Should make life easier. Cheers
  5. My laptop packed in a few days ago so a trip to PC world was called for. Was going to buy another dell laptop but somehow got talking to the guy from Apple and ended up with a Mackbook. Really happy with it, expensive but seems great. Only thing I cant work out is the Favorates tab. Is there one? I always had my sites saved as a favorates as some of the addresses are not easy to remember. Can I save favorates on it? Thanks
  6. I am a self employed heating engineer and we save up all the old cylinders we take out and take them to the scrappy every few weeks. Got £4.10 a kilo and ended up with over £1100 for old copper cylinders. We usually give the old boilers and other steel to any of the scrap guys that drive by but keep the copper. Just wondered if there was folk on here who collect scrap full time and what sort of money they make? Obviously it depends on what you get but as an average weekly wage? Just interested as alot of the scrap guys have new vans so must do okay out it. We dont keep the st
  7. Some really nice looking Collie Crosses. My own personal preferance is the 3/4 greyhound 1/4 Border cross. I like the additional speed and the coats are easy to look after if the dog lives indoors. I like rough coats for looks but they must be a nighmare to keep. I would like to get another lurcher in the future. The whippets are great fun but I really miss having a lurcher.
  8. Haven't really been on here properly for a while and just catching up on everything but somethings never change. LDR, no matter what you do there will always be someone having a go. Really bugs me the way some people go on. I ran in the first comp with one of my whippets and had a good night with Fieldmarshall. Met a sound bloke, a few runs and had a bit of a laugh. To me thats what the comp was about. I really cant get my head round why people get so worked up about it all. I love being out with the dogs as mutch as the next man but for me its about sport - Not life and Death!

    scrap price

I work as a heating engineer and we used to leave the old copper cylinders after stripping out a system. We took one to the scappy's a few weeks back and got £120 for the cylinder and some old copper pipe. Was well chuffed though starting to think about how mutch I could have made over the years lol
  12. Well there's something you dont see every day. I don't really hunt foxes but see loads and have never saw a black fox.
  13. I had a 3/4 Greyhound 1/4 Border Collie from Hancock and was really pleased with her. Thought Hancock was quite a nice bloke too. The sire of my dog was called Goose and he was a nice looking lurcher. Good luck with what you get.
  14. Hello, Does anyone know how to edit photos so that you could put a picture of me in place of someone else? Basically if I gave you a photo of someone installing a boiler could you change the person in the photo to me installing the boiler if I gave you a phote of me doing it? If that makes sense? I need a few pics and would pay if it can be done. Cheers
  15. I think it is importiant to name dog thiefs and have no issues doing it on an open forum. Provided you know he is a theif that is enogh for me. The world is going far to PC for me now. People are scared to say what they think.
  16. cheers for the replies. its not the money side too be honest. Its the fact that I am being shafted and I think it has been planned. Still we live and learn.
  17. yea the door cost £55. We try to be fair with our prices. A top spec Worcester boiler 30cdi would be fully installed for £1400. The gas board would be over £3500 (at least) I try to offer a professional service at a fair price and like I say kitchens are just a wee side line.
  18. Cheers, I dont know where I stand though, I cant just force my way in and strip out the kitchen as its inside their house. I think our prices are fair too and it looks outstanding. I will perhaps need to talk to a lawyer. Did your husband get paid?
  19. Evening All, Just wondering if anyone has had expriance of a customer trying to get out of paying? I have a small heating company and we occassionally fit the odd kitchen. We fitted a boiler for a family in Dundee and all went well and they paid promptly. We then were asked to offer a price to install their new kitchen. I got Howdens joinery to design a kitchen and gave them a price. I showed them the Jowdens quote and allowed £875 to fit the kitchen. (really easey job for our joiner) However they decided to go for a b&q kitchen and then asked us to install it. We didn't give
  20. He is comming on well, only time will tell though. Are you comming up to the Lure Coursing in Edinburgh in August?
  21. I have three whippets myself. The first is Callie, bred by a guy on here and from working stock. She is 21/2 and pretty well trained. Good wee lampin dog. She is not fast enough for racing but that is not what she was bred for. Penny is just over a year old and has alot of good working lines. She is more powerful and faster than Callie. Her recall is fantastic and I have high hopes for her this season. She wont chase the lure at the racing club, has no interest but if live quarry gets up in front of her she gives 100%! I actually think she could do very well in the racing if she would
  22. For next years comp are this years entrants being given first refusal on the entry? Hopefully there will be more names to give 32 or 64 but I think this years 16 should be given the chance to enter first.
  23. It's all about fun and seeing other dogs work. What pleasure could anyone have in getting a bye? Allthough, the rules say if your dog is injured and cant run the other dog goes through. My personal opinion is Mark needs to decide. I would not think any less of him for taking the tie as there is the next round to think of. However, if it were me I would re arrange it for the last week in Jan. If storm cant run by then a bye is fair enough.
  24. I don't think its a farce, far from it actually. As for the heat being run slightly later, who cares? You are at the 1/4 final stage and its not like there was hundreds of entrants to arange ties. We ran our heat on the 1st Dec, 1 day late because Fieldmarshall works away on the riggs and I wanted to give him a few days to get his dog out for a few runs before we ran the heat. Its called sportsmanship. Its like LDR and rews heat, rews dog was injured so an agreement was made too wait a couple of weeks - a no brainer too me!! WH and Mark are running a few days late? so what? It
  25. Im going for Fieldmarshall. Thought his dog was very good. Think WH has a chance too. Time will tell. Think the thread has the wrong title though - should be 1/4 final, not semi final lol still 8 dogs left lol
