Would you have another?

I thinks she's a cracking looker. I like the beardie coat but went for a 3/4 greyhound 1/4 border collie as I thought it would be easier to get her cleaned up after a day / night out as mine lives indoors.

A few very good and intresting points there whin. I fully see what you are saying and in an ideal world I think most people would agree with you. The thing is if you are new to lurchers and don't really know anyone what do you do? I went to Hancock because I didn't know where else to go. Perhaps I was one of the lucky ones as I am happy with what I ended up with.

Nice looking dogs. What cross is the one on the red lead? heres a pic

Hi Bud, I'll tell you the best thing to do - Phone Hancock and see if he has the cross you want. Then physically go over in person to have a look at it. Then you make your OWN mind up based on what you see. He will show you around and won't try to hide anything. Like the old saying goes - What you see is what you get. If you feel the pup, or it's parents are in poor condition then walk away. What ever you decide i wish you every success with your chosen lurcher. Regards minion

Speaking about the state of peoples kennels. I remember about three or four years ago being on another hunting forum and there was a thread about Brian Plummer. Someone had said that his kennels were in terrible conditions and dogs were not looked after etc. So, I asked him where about the kennels were located and was given the reply of "Caithness". Now, he had been in Abington in South Lanarkshire for a good few years before then yet someone claims to have been to his kennels in Caithness the week previous to posting on the forum. He had read a previous book and assumed he was still there and

would be intrested in Hunt and work terriers. I have sent PM.

I bought a lamp from Arthur Carter field sports through the Countrymans and it is a Lazerlite (I Think) It is made bu Clulite and I think it's a great lamp. I got it with a 17amp battery four years ago but replaced the battery with a 7 amp one as the 17 weighs a bloody tone. Its fairly compact too so can be hid in your jacket fairly easy.

I think the idea is good and i'd give it a bash. As long as it was just for fun. If you start having prize money you would end up with dogs that were practiclly pure greyhound being entered. Still, it would be a good way to meet other like minded people.

I sell and fix pumps. From the small heating pumps in your house to the pumps used on new buildings. I love it and the money's pretty good too. Plus no weekends or overtime. Mon-Fri 8-5 suits me fine.

I will be looking to breed a litter of ferrets this year when my jill comes into season. She is a polcat coloured jill and will be about four years old. I am breading to replace my two old ferrets who died earlier this year aged both aged 9. Colour not importiant as long as it is a hob that gets worked. I am in the Midlothian area and don't mind travelling a bit. I was looking to leave her with someone for a week or so to ensure she takes. Can anyone help out? Feel free to PM if you prefer.

and long may you continue. It's what the dog was bred to do!

Don't get me wrong minion, my first cross bitch is from the same place as your lurcher.. When it comes to impatience, I'm speaking from experience! Now I think that's a cracking looking dog mate. And to be fair, it's a fantastic advertisment to Hancock dogs. There's just something about the collie lurcher, i can't explain it but i have always liked them.

Enough said. Still, it is a complete joke though. This country really needs to get a bloody grip of it's self.

Cracking looking dog. I hope you are only going to run rabbits with her

Well, the bans been in force for a while now (Even longer up here in Scotland) and I was wondering if it has actually made a differance to everyone? To me - No, none what so ever. I never had any permission before the ban and I still work my dog in the same manor as I did before and continue to persue the same quarry. Never had a single bit of bother! Also, does anyone actually think there is a chance of the law ever changing back?

I'm not a fox man but saw a DVD the other day about digging. It was very good to watch but at the end of the dig the fox had a grip of the terriers face. It got me thinking, are foxs powerful enough to kill a terrier bellow ground? I've read about terriers getting suffocated or crushed but never killed by a fox. Has it ever happened? or has anyone herd of it? No reason for this post other than I am just curious. cheers minion.

I've noticed several litters advertised in the last couple of years, and heard of folk getting pups from one or two more that didn't need to be advertised. I believe only recently there were two genuine first cross litters, pups from at least one of these litters were advertised in CMW last autumn. Granted, these folk aren't breeding litters year in, year out, so timing is everything. Why a "genuine" first cross anyway? There's been a couple of linebred litters in the last 2 years that seem to have produced some promising young lurchers. Again, timing is everything. I s

Hi,as you have one of his dogs and are happy with it,can you say whether his kennels are as bad as some people have said on this site, and if they are wouldn't it be better to stop buying from him for the good of the dogs...........if he was out of business then a decent breeder could take over as there is certainly a market for the crosses. Just playing devils advocate, and not trying to upset anybody.....by the way I don't know anything about Hancock apart from what I have read in 'My life with lurchers' Hi, Fom memory the kennels themselves seemed okay, but it was the scrap yar

Hi bud, I actually have a Hancock dog and am more than happy with her. I would also go back to him but I just wondered what all the people who don't like Hancock expect people to do.
-
After reading alot of the posts regarding Hancock I was just wondering who else knows anyone who breeds genuine first cross's? I would think that not many lurcher men keep either pure collie's or pure greyhounds? They would keep lurchers, so you would need to know someone with Grehounds who is prepaird to let you mate a collie to it or vice a versa. How easy is that to find? Does anyone know of any other breeders?

Nice dogs - ugly mate Just gestin chief!!! Pair of crackers, What like are they working?
-
The main thing is that they didn't get the dog!!!!!! It really is pathetic. The thing is, even if they got caught and you went down the route of calling the police, what would happen? i'll tell you what, Feck all!!!!!! They would get a slap on the rists and walk away!! Yet, if they managed to steal the dog but got caught coursing a hare with it they would get the book thrown at them. The law is a complete and utter joke. What you should do if you catch someone trying to steal your dogs is give them the hammering of thier lives. Make sure they learn their lesson and wont co

Cheers mate, I will give it a go.

Has anyone fished Torness lately? I've not been for years but it used to be very good for the Bass from the Rocks at the outlet. I was thinking about a fishing trip round that area (Dunbar, Eyemouth etc) but could do with some info on the best bits.
