I'm just wondering what the odds are of them being deaf or blind? There are people on here that have had them for many years with only a few that have had any signs of issues. As I've said mate, I've had ferrets for 51 yrs, I don't believe any albino ferret can see as well as a ferret should. It's up to the individual what they breed, I was just stating that the OP was correct and that I'd seen it, and that was the reason I favored polecat crosses. Have you bred albino ferrets? Do your jills ever throw light coloured kits?

I do work my pup but she isn't 9 months old. All dogs mature at a different rate. It's obvious your dog isn't ready yet.

There is a thred on albino problems on here "albino fear". A few people have posted about their blind ferrets so I'm sure they could give you a bit of advice. Good luck mate

I did post earlier a part of an article saying any ferret carrying the albino gene could have the same problems as an albino but it occurs more frequently in the lighter ferrets like sandy, bew and silver so it isn't just albinos that have these problems. I don't know of many ferrets that don't have albino in their genes. People would have to breed poley to poley until the jills are no longer throwing light kits just to try to remove this potential health issue. romany52 do your jills ever throw light coloured kits? Anything could happen with each pups such as not breathing, cord bleeding, being stuck and it wouldn't be noticed if you went on your merry way to bed. With you mentality I'd be surprised your dogs last long enough to make seasoned workers or do you just use them for shows and stud? If you want money for the pups you should care if they are breathing at birth and you can't breed next year from a dead bitch so it's in your best interest ££££ to pay attention to your investment. Ferrets with albinism are far from being blind, impaired vision is the term used. Deafness is a possibility but to what extent no one really knows. You are just using the term blind and deaf as an emotional crutch to back up your argument, when the statistics show that neither is really a cause for concern. I have the same, 2 jills and 2 hobs. The pellets are compressed wood cat litter pellets. They are expensive but work well.
