  1. your absolutley right, there are lots of absolutley superb first rate whippets from the best coursing/racing/working/showing lines in the world, with lines that are world famous, right through whippet history, right here, dogs which are being campaigned across the country, week in week out, by there owners, for anyone who is genuinley interested all you have to do is get out and about to the different events and meet people, do your home work, and order a pup,
  2. well your giving out wrong advice there as mike brown doesnt breed or hasnt bred "laguna" whippets, dorit mckay and her dorit, lyla bond gunning (now lyla wainman) breed the "laguna,s" not mike brown, mike breeds working whippets, with laguna blood quite a long way back in there breeding/pedigree, they are not laguna,s the title of this thread is LAGUNA WHIPPETS It's nice that at least someone else knows this, as it seems that Mike brown has marketed his(puppy sales) dogs to be Laguna which is not correct. It seems every wannabe lurcher/working whippet owners seems to thnk hi
  3. So how many have dogs direct from the Laguna kennel none I suspect? Just the usual sooty sam, marketing, boring.
  4. Plank your mother needs to use the same commands consistently when the unwanted behaviour is displayed. This command must shock the dog, this is no different if its biting your ankles, hands or your arse . The other important question here is what is going on in the house who else lives there how do they interact with the dog? Will they use the same command and technique, because its very important everyone is doing the same thing.
  5. I don't agree scretagentmole that sounds like a barabara woodhouse recommendation...lol Why do you have to force the dogs jaw at all? I really dont see how this asserts you position over the dog in the pack other than scaring the pup and it wont do the relationship with your dog much good at all. I am sure it works but there really are easier methods which will keep you relationship stronger between you and the pup. If you get a chance to read 'Think Dog by John Fisher' I am sure you will enjoy his section on this subject.
  6. With bite inhibition like many other things with dogs the key is being consistent, so don't keep changing. I would recommend you stay with the a stern verbal command (i have used a growl or an over the top scream) accompanied by ignoring the dog afterwards. Make sure you praise the dog when it is in contact with you but not biting to encourage the positive also. Just keep doing the same thing and maybe try giving the dog some frozen beef bones if the pup is teething Good luck.
  7. Tyla, there is some good info on this thread, but from my experience with dealing with behaviour problems, it is virtually impossible to get advice via email/internet that will be specific to your situation. Get someone to come and see the dogs and how you deal with them. And very often things can be sorted with a few adjustment There are just too many variants to accurately give advice via the internet IMO. And dominance theories can be a very emotive subject, and is often misinterpreted.
  8. I have never understood why people do that weird tail measurement, tell me what does it prove? Anyone know? The dog has a long tail? I have only seen lurcher people do it? A good length of back will indicate length of pace, but like anything a extreme variants of either to short or to long are undesirable. I think as long as a dog looks balanced and in proportion it should be correct.

    Chav Cammo

Fair enough camo is OK for hunting, by why the feck would you want to wear a full cammo outfit on a day out to a game fair in the middle of the summer?. Or are these sad people just trying to look like they 'Do a bit' :D Almost as bad a these lurcher judges we don't even wear a shirt, just a pait of shorts and a vest, scruffy feckers. No wonder most people think lurcher owners are rough old p***y poachers when even the judges look like scruff bags when on public display.
  11. It's good gear, I have noticed a improvement in recovery time when using it.
  12. I agree with Gunner, to anyone who stops and 'thinks' about it, you cannot replicate a natural raw diet by having it in a dry food form. Yes its not an extruded food but its still a dry complete food, and like many of these foods now who have 'jumped' onto the bandwagon, they have manage to stuff as much into the food as possible. More for the marketing value that they can print that 101 natural ingredients are included on the label opposed to actually benefiting the animals. For me fresh raw food is cheaper and far superior to dry foods, its a no brainer.
  13. Thats a cracking looking pup, really nice
  14. Any pics of the dog working? Or do you just show the dog? Looks in nice condition.
  15. I always start training early with any dog,the pup i have here i taught to 'sit and 'down' in a hours training the day after I brought him home at 7 weeks. I would do this with any dog regardless of breed or type. All dogs will benefit from early socialisation to tasks that they will be expected to encounter in the future and of course the world in general. But The cruxs of the matter is doing this at the right rate to suit the dog. Leaving the training of any type of dog till 12 months is making the job much harder for yourself. I am not talking entering to work, just training as th

  17. Mr Burrell has kept this strain pure for many generations and it is jealously guarded. The original dogs were as follows. Dam / Sire Rip Off Rita X Load of Cobblers These two dogs produced a big litter which included,"Having a Laugh"",Taking The Piss","Tell Me Another One","I Wanna Tell You A Story",and the most famous one," Once Upon A Time",which became a great brood bitch in it's retirement ,and perpetuated the line with such animals as "Making It Up", "I Even Convince Myself",who are legends even to this day. N .B. There ar
