Arnica is excellent for bruising and injury from my experience.

You are correct dan, he really has made himself very unpopular with the locals. I have first hand experience of the clown!

He is an upper middle-class fop mate,I remember everyone saying how brave he was trying to survive in River cottage, trying to survive????F*cking hell how much was the production budget? They were never going to let him starve,he sometimes has a few peasants around his gaff to leaven out the social mix but he is most certainly not slumming it,he does river-cottage "classes" now where the middle-classes can go and learn how to live-off the land and do working class things. You are bang on with that on mackem, River Cottage was great TV but a real con especially for the locals....

Lovely looking bitch, well made by the looks of it too......

Yep thats what I have done before, whether it worked or not is debatable, but it was a good laugh.

You do mean puff balls and not poofs balls don't you? Usually late Aug through Sept and Oct is a good time to find the in my areas, and always on old pastures. Strange though, places where we used to find loads as kids, no just dont seem to produce. I assumes it just luck of the draw as to where the spores land.

Shame people try to pull people/dogs down, these lads have good dogs and good land, which result in bloody good hauls. I know how hard running rabbits on hill sides can be, and it is no easy task especially if they go down hill, you can kiss goodbye to the dog catching. Nice job

Yes bolted one last season with the stinkers, it bolted well then it was headed by the dogs and went back to ground. We continued to work the warren with 6-8 ferrets and never saw or heard a thing from the fox, all ferrets came away unscathed.

A very healthy haul, well done.

What time do you like setting off
Sirius replied to Rabbiting man's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
I have to ask, what are you doing for 8 hours? Driving to and from permission or are you actually working your dog that long? -
What time do you like setting off
Sirius replied to Rabbiting man's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
I go when its dark and come back when I am done, not my thing spending 6-8 hours out, as I can easily give my dog 15-20 runs in a few hours. -
will keep eyes open

I know how you feel, he's just such and idiot, who has no credentials to be able to speak about the countryside with any experience or practical knowledge, hes a fecking townie muscian FFS. Sadly people actually listen to these self appointed celebrity's

And that is why you have to tailor training to suit the case, there is a world of differnce between being firm and heavy handed. I dont think many people who have trained a few dogs or have worked with dogs can afford to be to airy fairy and 'right on' as it quite simply is not practical to do so. Much of the old fashioned theories on Dominance in my mind is pretty incorrect. This does not mean that you dont show the dog that what 'you' say goes or who is boss if you want to put it like that., maybe that is where some people have got confused on this thread

I think anyone who owns a dog can benefit from reading this book it's excellent, its more psychology than exact training methods . Think Dog by John Fisher When I was doing behavioural work I found it invaluable for reference. http://www.amazon.co...y/dp/1844031209

Would you vary your methods for different breeds? A terrier type always benefits from a firm hand and clear boundries, its what they understand best in their small thuggish little brain (imho) where as, as we all know, taking a tough line with a saluki type is mostly a waste of time and counter productive (same for almost any dog with saluki in the mix) Manwork dogs (again jmho) require mostly trained with your mind with the VERY rare instance of firm hand thrown in now and again. So are your saying that reward type training is a one size fits all, works for everything method? Just i

Facts??? I thought that was just your opinion....bloody arrogant if you think your opinions are facts! And it's called a discussion, but I guess if you're so convinced you must be right then it's not possible to have a discussion. As for the dominance being in the dark ages....it's called nature, and that doesn't change with trends! Maybe facts was to stronger word...lol, but there is no doubt the lads training methods are rubbish and much of the dominance theory of years gone by is proven to be rubbish I am afraid. There is no need to completely dominate a dog in most cases
-
Typical THL, get an argument about anything even when given the facts people want a punch up. Maybe get out of the dark ages with your dominance training and start thinking about it, who know what you might achieve with your dogs. Personal i like a bit of dominance but that's only in the bedroom

Niggling injury, slight limp after exercise.

No problem, just remember there is a world of difference between a standard small animal vet and a specialist. Good luck -

Excellent post and I agree with you 100%

I am not trying to fall out with anyone!! I was merely pointing out that the reason for the outcry was the fact that it was the way it was done and how it would convey to the general public, that was the real Issue. Once these media people get their claws into you and have whipped up a storm, unless you are very well versed at dealing with them you will be going down very quickly  This guy (wrongly in my mind) has lost his job, and now he is having a last ditched attempt at resurrecting his career with the indignity of having to publicly ask other trainers on how they would do it?
-
It's all very well people shouting off on the forum," I would kick the dog" or I would do what ever. But maybe just think about what the implications are if that was aired on TV to the general public??!! More idiot walking the streets thinking it's OK to kick dogs in the name of training. And that I think is the point. Alot of this dominance theory in dog training is proven to incorrect, almost as bad as Barabara Woodhouse crimes to dogs and dog training.
